McLaren 600LT Spider teased ahead of Jan 16 debut

McLaren has teased the next instalment of its hardcore Longtail family, and if you’ve always wanted to get your 600LT fix sans roof, your prayers have been answered. That’s because the new car – which will be unveiled on January 16 – will almost certainly be the 600LT Spider, judging by what has been revealed so far.

The sole image provided shows the car’s rear deck, complete with the 600LT’s trademark top-mounted exhaust pipes and the larger rear spoiler that allows it to wear the Longtail name. The redesigned engine cover is shorter here to make way for the folding hardtop mechanism, and the different buttresses – the coupé gets flying buttresses instead – are similar to those on the 570S Spider.

Even clearer evidence is provided in the teaser video below, where the car’s shadow clearly shows the lack of a roof. That’s gonna provide one hell of a thrill, especially since the coupé is already fairly extreme as road cars go – a 600 PS/620 Nm 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8, near-100 kg weight loss and a sharper chassis see to that.

The third model in Woking’s Track25 business plan after the coupé and the Speedtail, the 600LT will be limited to a production run of just 12 months, so better hurry if you want one.
