Bentley Bentayga Speed debuts as world’s fastest SUV

Eager to prove a point, Bentley has revealed the new Bentayga Speed, which it claims is the world’s fastest luxury SUV. There’s plenty of figures to go along with that claim, with the most important being 306 km/h. Why?

Well, that is the Bentayga Speed’s top speed, which is precisely one km/h more than the previous fastest SUV in the world, the Lamborghini Urus (305 km/h). It’s even more impressive when you consider the big B has a kerb weight of 2,491 kg compared to the Urus’ 2,200 kg.

This astonishing performance is possible thanks to a 6.0 litre twin-turbo W12 that makes 635 PS and 900 Nm of torque, which is marginally more than what is found in a normal Bentayga (608 PS and 900 Nm).

The engine, along with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive, allow the SUV to get from 0-100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds compared to the standard 4.1 seconds. For the sake of comparison, the Urus takes 3.6 seconds to do the same.

Aside from the slight bump in power, the Bentayga Speed also gets revised suspension and special tuning of the Dynamic Ride electric active roll control system. Customers who need more stopping power can opt for the carbon ceramic brake package that are 20 kg lighter than iron brakes, and offer a maximum braking torque of 6,000 Nm and heat tolerance of up to 1,000 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, styling revisions include 22-inch wheels, a larger rear spoiler, darkened grille mesh and a generous use of Alcantara inside the cabin. As Bentley owners might not be a fan of the material, they can opt to revert to genuine leather as a no-cost option.
