BMW has teased the upcoming 8 Series Gran Coupe again ahead of its June debut, with a brief video of the four-door coupe driving through a rather dusty environment. The 8GC will join other body styles in the range, which includes the two-door coupe and convertible models.
Based on what is (partly) visible, the 8GC shares an identical face to its two-door siblings. As we’ve seen in an earlier photo posted by the German carmaker, the differences between the body types start from the A-pillar, with a less rakish windshield on the four-door model.
The sweeping roofline also culminates at a higher rear deck to promote better interior space for rear passengers, with an integrated lip spoiler on the boot lid. A longer wheelbase compared to the coupe is also touted, and a sportier seating setup (likely with semi-bucket seats) should be present as well.
It’s also worth mentioning that the aggressive rear haunches on the coupe appear to be toned down on the 8GC, allowing for a larger rear window to allow more natural light into the cabin. Also noteworthy is the size of the doors, which are much larger in the rear to make it easier to enter or exit rear of the cabin.
Barring official powertrain details, the 8GC should mimic what’s available for other models in the range, starting with the M850i xDrive which packs a 4.4 litre twin-turbo V8 with 530 PS (523 hp) and 750 Nm of torque. An oil burner in the form of the 840d xDrive with a 3.0 litre straight-six turbodiesel (320 PS or 315 hp, 680 Nm) is also another possibility.
Recently, BMW introduced the 840i and 840i xDrive variants for the 8 Series, both powered by a 3.0 litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine that outputs 340 PS (335 hp) and 450 Nm. These options could be offered for the new 8GC as well, but we’ll only know more later in June.
