Many things (mostly cars) are shared in our group chat, but when this one surfaced I went WOW! I bet many of you would be impressed too, before wanting one yourselves. This is the Proton Iriz S1000 Concept, a special edition to celebrate the Iriz’s 2018 Sepang 1,000 km endurance race victory.

Unfortunately, this isn’t an actual or even concept car from Proton, but a rendering by Theophilus Chin. The theme is pretty clear here – the inspiration is a race car’s win, so this Iriz has been done up to be as sporty as it can be.

While it’s based on the latest 2019 Iriz facelift, Theo has swapped out that car’s “Ethereal Bow” grille with full-width chrome wings for the 2019 Persona facelift‘s more conventional grille, with full “Infinite Weave” mesh. The chrome trim on the “eyebrows” of the lights and the base of the grille have been blacked out – it’s all in matte black.

The lower bumper is from the standard Iriz (which by the way, is not shared with its sedan sister) but with the LED daytime running light strips removed. Of the two new faces, I prefer the Persona’s, so this grille-swapped Iriz face is ideal for me – how about you?

Grille aside, the rest are all add-ons. There’s a front splitter with quite a unique design – besides the usual “flags” at the sides, this one has vertical “horns” that integrate with the side air intakes, making it more prominent. It’s finished in carbon and has little red vents on each side as accents – this is repeated on the side skirts. The brake calipers have some red on them, too.

On the profile, Theo has added wider front fenders, and the extra width is on display via two vents – one sits where the front wing meets the bonnet (base of the A pillars), while the other is a long vertical strip (border with the front doors) visible from the rear three quarters, like the FK8 Honda Civic Type R. The Iriz S1000 sits nice and low on larger multi-spoke alloys finished in black. The wing mirror caps are also in black.

The rear end of the 2019 Iriz is already bold and aggressive, thanks to the new black bridge between the vertical tail lamps, with Proton script. The hatchback you can buy comes with a fairly prominent rear wing for a stock car, but this has been super-sized by Theo for a race car look. The elaborate two-tier wing also comes with a triangle “F1-style” third brake light.

That mad wing isn’t even the most elaborate appendage on the Iriz S1000 Concept; that’s the rear bumper, which design looks like a result of Lamborghini’s wind tunnel.

The diffuser looks like many pieces of carbon stacked on each other, but it references the front item (vertical horns, side flags) and neatly houses the two exhaust tips. The latter is finished in black to match the dark lower body of the car (the stock Iriz has no visible tail pipes, by the way).

A nice finisher is the “S1000” etched on the front wings, apparent on the blue and green cars you see here. The green one also has yellow bodykit accents to replace the red, and additional yellow decals (or is it gold?) on the bonnet, lower sides and rear hatch. Proton introduced a new Iriz emblem for the facelift with an emphasis on the “R” – this S1000 Concept wears that red “R” with pride (not just on the front grille, see blue and green cars) and full race gear.

Our render-master imagined the Iriz S1000 Concept with improved performance, either from a Geely 1.5 litre turbo (174 hp/255 Nm) with dual-clutch auto combo (as per the Geely Binyue a.k.a. upcoming Proton X50), or Proton’s own 1.3 litre turbo (140 hp/190 Nm) with six-speed manual pairing, as shown in prototype form back in 2015. The stock Iriz makes 109 PS/150 Nm from its 1.6L NA engine, paired with a CVT.

Just imagine the turbo power while looking at these images. Nice, right? Now, if only Proton would…

WOW! That’s really fast. Actually, if they are going to sell Proton Cars with turbocharged engine to the consumers then the sales will pick up more often than Perodua. So, even though Proton Malaysia currently sell Proton Iriz Third Round of Facelift and Persona Third Round of Facelift with Campro Engine, the sales will still pick up more compare to Proton Iriz Second Round of Facelift and Proton Persona Second Round of Facelift because third Facelift of Persona and Iriz have lots of specs and features than second round of Facelift of Persona and Iriz.

So in the future, Perodua Sales will surely lose to Proton Sales because Perodua Myvi and Bezza are slower than New Gen Iriz and New Gen Persona. Even right now, Perodua Sales are slowly gradually falling of Third Round of Facelift of Iriz and Persona. This is why Proton is making brand more successful

Correct! If Geely doesn’t buy Proton maybe 2 years ago Proton game over already, therefore changing Perodua name into “Pertama”. Because of this, we must thank China for saving the game over Proton.

Yes, lets go one step further and call it PeroKosong or P0 because their cars are all kosong specs with ancient technology and subpar safety standards. If they didn’t send an “enhanced” car for NCAP testing, they would get Kosong Stars. So lets call it PeroKosong.

Even if it were to be a reality, it will surely be priced higher than the existing premium edition. Right? Otherwise, how will they justify the limited 1,000 units that you suggested, what more with the different panels, bumpers, wheels, tyres etc. At RM45k there will be no business case and the idea will just be thrown out. Currently the premium retails for RM47k. Gotta be realistic with your demands bro!

The Iriz EV concept was showcased 5 years ago. I’m a patriotic Malaysian and I want to buy Barang Buatan Malaysia. But why Proton is still scared to release their game changing Iriz EV? If Proton keep postpone the release then it will be game over.

        • Don’t continue to lie here. Proton never said they will release this car in 2017 or 2018. What they said is, it will be ready for manufacturing in 2017 or 2018.

where is it now? Why is it not being manufactured? Now already 2019.

I want to buy Iriz EV to support local products, but it seems Proton will not release it

    • Actually, the EV’s currently available are not profitable for their manufacturers. Tesla only survived until now because of a steady inflow of investment money, while companies like Volkswagen or Renault offset the losses caused by EV sales with the money they make with the sale of standard cars. Additionally, they also have to invest heavily in loading infrastructure, as petrol stations are alredy available nationwide, but fast-chargers for EV’s not.
Modenas btw. released the first electric kapchai already years ago, it was an commercial desaster for the company and production stalled already.
I guess that Proton is simply too small to bring an EV yet, as it would be too risky for them.

Proton may be small, but Geely isn’t. Geely has EVs as it is and they surely can do it how VW does (how you mentioned it).

But then again, for a country that relies heavily on petrol moolah, petrol has to be protected for the time being and that’s probably why no incentive for EVs or any promotion for it.

It’s just a theory and since Malaysian electricity generation is also done by partly by fossil fuels/gas and whatnot…..

Yup, that’s right. Also, when looking at vehicles sales every month, our resident bashers start to feel jealous because Proton Vehicles Sales started to go up, as mentioned earlier because Proton is making more contribution like organization projects made by University Students, giving better technology and giving powerful engines cars to the consumers and giving best service quality. That’s why Proton as first national car makes the brand more successful.

Same goes to European Carmakers like Volvo, BMW, Mercedes, Peugeot, Renault and Volkswagen in Malaysia, why so many people buy German Brands, European Brands, American Brands, China Cara instead of buying Hyundai Cars and Japanese Cars? This is because most population in this country said that their European designers including American designers, China designers and Kia designers making stylish design, having more technological features, making dynamic powerful engines with more reliability and having more safety features and after sales service were also improving. This will definitely attracts to more consumers. Soon or later, Peugeot and Renault are coming back to make their sales better.

As for present, compare to Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Perodua and Hyundai in Malaysia, their sales are falling nowadays because Japanese designers making outdated technology, outdated design and didn’t even check properly whether every parts including engines is more reliability or not and after sales service also not very good. This same goes to Hyundai, having lots of issues, never do their service properly. But unlike Ford, at least Ford in Malaysia are improving their service quality compare to previous years when my father drives Ford Escape 2006. Therefore, also, at least Honda is making more powerful engines and more technological features even Honda design is not good but so so and after sales service is not good as well. But when our resident troll came to every Proton articles, Ford articles and even EU articles, he always like to bash without giving his proper facts.

        • The funny thing is, that there is nothing such as an “European” or “Korean” design. The Mercedes CLS for example was designed by Korean Hubert Lee, while Hyundai/Kia have German Peter Schreyer as head designer.
Car design is worldwide business for many years already.

I think you are giving me out of topic about my second feedback for first sentence. But let me replied you about second sentence, Peter Schreyer is only making design more on Kia models, Volkswagen and Audi models. But he didn’t design much on Hyundai models and Genesis models. Anyway, You see which Korean Car Brand Design looks nicer? Kia is much more nicer than Hyundai. This is because Peter Schreyer making more stylish design for both exterior and interior design. That’s why nowadays many people buy Kia than Hyundai. Not only that, even though you also talk about Hubert Lee that makes Mercedes CLS in 2012, Mercedes CLS design looks better than Hyundai design.

Much improved Proton Persona, Iriz and Exora FL made under Geely watchful eyes, not suprising Proton Vehicles Sales started to go up. But most obvious, SST brought much lower prices for facelifted Proton models. Proton Vehicles Sales started to go up, all patriotic Msians in full support.

The 1.3T be called Iriz GTI while the 1.5T be called Iriz R…its a very niche market as Rempits cant afford them but why not…

The chassis can handle more power than the ‘go to pasar’ spec engines currently powering it.

These model if materialise will be hotter than the original GTI.
