The second-generation Hyundai i10 has been around for six years now, and it’s time for a new one. The third-gen city car is set to debut at the 2019 IAA show in Frankfurt in September, and here’s the first clue of how it will look like – an official sketch by Hyundai.
Hyundai says that its next A-segment hatchback will be designed, developed and built in Europe. Compared to the current generation car, which Malaysia skipped (the Atoz-replacing i10 that we know is the first one to wear the badge), the upcoming new i10 will sport a bolder, more dynamic look, which Hyundai says shows a contrast between its soft surfaces and sharp lines.
Sketches all look squat and sporty, but the Korean carmaker says that proportions for the production car have been redefined in width, height and wheel size, for an “energetic and agile look” that Hyundai says will stand out in the A-segment. We remember the i10 as a small and tall car, but the outgoing generation was 80 mm longer, 65 mm wider and 50 mm lower than the original – this footprint is where Hyundai is building from.
The sketch shows a sporty little hatch, with a wide front grille bookend by round foglamps/daytime running lamps. The highly sculpted bumper incorporates triangular air curtains that accentuate the width and stance of the car, besides its main job of improving aerodynamics.
It’s not super clear here due to the angle, but the X-shaped C pillars will be a design highlight, and there will be a pillar-mounted logo as well. BMW X2 style? A recurring theme will be unique triangular shapes that will once again emphasise width and the position of the wheels at the extreme corners. It’s far from slab-sided, that’s for sure.
Design aside, Hyundai will be focusing on connectivity and safety. Available features will include Hyundai Blue Link, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging and a rear-view camera. The carmaker says that the new model i10 will have one of the most full-featured safety packages in its class – Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (with pedestrians detection), Driver Attention Warning and Lane Keep Assist System will be standard, and High Beam Assist will be on the options list. So far, so good.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Hyundai is an amazing company! Their first car rolled out in 1974, just 10 years before rolled out their first car in 1984.
But today, Hyundai sells 8 million cars globally. Proton sells 55,000 cars per annum.
We have a lot to learn from the Koreans.
learn about what? How to reproduce? South Korea has 34 million in 1974 while Malaysia has about half that in 1985. They had double the manpower. Obviously that helps their industry grow. Not to mention, Korea still has about double the population compared to malaysia in 2019
Still with the same fake story eh? Roll out the first car in 1974 then roll it out again in 1984? Did they have Dr Strange working for them?
Fact check: Hyundai was setup back in 1967 and they were huge conglomerate by the time they rolled out their first cars yet the company performed badly for decades until post-2000 when they utilise their massive cash reserves for investment into their engineering & design teams. Even then they needed help from others when they partnered with Mitsubishi & Chrysler to develop GEMA engine which kickstarted their Renaissance.
So what we learned? Hyundai found no matter how big they are they cannot go alone, they needed help, they need to put massive amount of capital to bring up their engineering & design, they needed to suffer and make losses for many, many years before they could turn around. Isn’t this what Proton is learning? Yes it is, and we should thank DSN for this generous partner that is giving them these opportunities. That is more than I can say for their long time head who was limiting Proton’s potential by choosing to go it alone, thinking he is so damn great. And worse is the perennial rebadger Perodua. They still continue to rebadge with zero innovation, there is no future for them when AFTA comes into full force and forces the market to open.
So for Proton, there is no doubt that under Geely’s tutelage they could grow as big or bigger than Hyundai. I am more concerned on Perodua’s future when Toyota sees no need for them anymore.
Hahahahaha! Dr Strange eh? Nice! Can see when he copy and pasted the same comment, he did a bad job at that. Half-assed lazy-ass job also he could screw that up. That’s what happen when they paid peanuts… they’ve got monkey quality results.
Proton Saga FL are using gearbox from game changing Hyundai. Proven that Hyundai are a game changing carmaker making good quality gearbox
This concept is so modern and futurisic! I hope our next generation Proton Iriz have a stunning design like this game changung Hyundai i10 concept. Also, the next generation Iriz should use Hyundai’s game changing engine and transmission instead of Geely’s engine and transmission
Aren’t you the guy who condemns Hyundai in every article but today, your Proton uses Hyundai 4AT gearbox.
Malu kan?
And again, our resident troll spamming his likes to his comments and having his dupes post like Roti Berhad, Aeon and Micheal Wong
Proton’s success really brought out these jealous competitor salesmen. If they’re so worried, just switch over and sell Proton cars. Tho I doubt Proton will want these jokers, the way they’re pushing Perodua cars is giving the brand a bad name here.
Hope its an upgrade from current 4AT gearbox.
Don’t worry, Hyundai game changing 4AT gearbox don’t need an upgrade since Proton Saga FL also used Hyundai 4AT gearbox which mean Hyundai gearbox is reliable and good quality
