Hyundai 45 electric concept teased, Frankfurt debut

Hyundai is bringing a new electric concept car to the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, which will redefine the design direction for its zero-emission models. It’s called the 45, and it harks back to Hyundai’s first car, the Giugiaro-designed Pony – which incidentally is celebrating its 45th birthday next year.

The inspiration for the show car is clear to see in the sole teaser image, with an angular design that is a stylistic departure from Hyundai’s organic Sensuous Sportiness design language. The strong stance of the car is accentuated by the triangular shape of the rear end, and the full-width light panel – which puts on a light show at startup – is a cheeky throwback to South Korea’s first motor vehicle.

Not much else has been revealed about this car, but it will share the stage with two other world premieres for the brand, including the next-generation i10 and a new all-electric race car.
