Kia prices increase in August – up RM1,000 to RM5,000

Earlier this month, Kia dealers began posting on social media about a price increase on certain models. These prices, which have since been confirmed by Naza Kia, are for selected variants of the Picanto, Rio, Sorento and Grand Carnival, effective August.

Starting with the cheapest model on the list, the Picanto GT Line sees a RM2,000 increase to RM59,888, while the price of the Rio 1.4 SX has only gone up RM1,000 to RM79,888. Moving further up the range, the range-topping Sorento 2.2 CRDi SX now retails at RM183,888, up RM4,000.

As for the Grand Carnival, the base KX model is also RM4,000 more expensive at RM159,888, and the top-spec SX now costs an extra RM5,000 at RM189,888. No other models and variants have been affected by this change, says Naza Kia.

This means that for a few models, these prices have gone back up to the levels before the abolishment of the goods and services tax (GST). The exceptions are the newly-introduced Picanto GT Line, the Sorento 2.2 CRDi SX (slightly cheaper) and the Grand Carnival SX (slightly more expensive).

I think there isnt much concern of increase from 1k to 5k to the price tag. KIA branded cars arent popularly sold in Malaysia to begin with. In other words, not many buyers. To add salt to injuries, KIA aftersales services have left many KIA owners furiously mad and disappointed.

Excise tax involves ALL imported makes. KIA is the first to report it, more will come soon enough.

Correct. wonder how honda will cope with this. higher prices on their cars and stronger sales by proton mean honda will cease being no.2 in no time. civic now starts at rm110k. soon it might be rm115k for the base model.

This one is true… but instead of blaming KIA, the problem lies with Naza. Just look at those brands under Naza like Peugeot. It’s like being run by monkeys. Cars are cheaper and have more/comparable safety features than Japanese made, but after sales sucks.
