Nissan and Nismo (Nissan Motorsports International) has taken the veils off the new 2020 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT500 race car. It’s built based on the existing Nissan GT-R Nismo, created specifically to race in the 2020 Super GT championship series.

Nissan says the race car will comply with the new Class 1 technical regulations to be uniformly adopted by the Super GT and DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) series. Exact mechanical changes have yet to be revealed, but new Class 1 regulations have seen competitors like the BMW M4 DTM adopt a newly-developed 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine in place of the older 4.0 litre naturally-aspirated V8 motor. The Nismo GT500 however, has been running on the 2.0 litre turbocharged four-potter since 2014.

Developmental tests for the new Nismo GT500 will take place at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan, with further test runs to follow in quick succession. The Super GT series is one of Nismo’s key motorsports activities, alongside the ABB FIA Formula E Championship series. Other Super GT rivals include the Honda NSX and GR Toyota Supra. Seriously do you (the writer, Tong) know anything about superGT?! They have been using spec 2.0L turbo engine since 2014. In fact DTM are following the supergt rule in using 2L turbo engine as they have been running 4L V8 till last year. So Nismo GTR not going to downsize their engines. It’s the DTM that are using the downsized engines.
