Porsche strengthens collaboration with Gran Turismo Sport – Taycan, 917 Living Legend and new Vision GT

The new Porsche Taycan is certainly an exciting sports car, even if it is the first fully electric one from the German carmaker. However, with prices starting from US$150,900 in the United States, it might be a little out of reach for a number of people, including this writer.

Thankfully, Polyphony Digital, the makers of Gran Turismo Sport, has announced that the Taycan will be added to the racing video game as part of a free content update in October 2019. The announcement was made during this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, with other cars set to be added in the future (more on that later).

To ensure the virtual version of the Taycan is as realistic as possible, the development teams from Stuttgart and Tokyo worked closely over nine months to capture every detail of the car, including the exterior and interior styling, on-track performance and even the unique sound the car generates. Gamers will get to drive the Taycan in its most extreme Turbo S variant, which offers 761 PS and 1,050 Nm of torque from its dual-motor electric powertrain.

The Taycan isn’t the only Porsche car that will be added to the Gran Turismo Sport roster, as it will be joined by the 917 Living Legend concept by the first half of 2020. This will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the famous 917 racer that gave Porsche its first-ever 24 Hours of Le Mans win.

By the end of next year, we’ll also welcome the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo, where the carmaker’s designers are given free rein to design a a virtual sports car concept not linked to any series production model. This is part of the Vision Gran Turismo project, which has attracted many entries from brands like Honda, Audi, Peugeot, McLaren, Bugatti, Mazda, Toyota and many more.
