BMW M3, X3 and VW Tiguan to be High Performance Police escort vehicles for VIPs in Malaysia?

BMW M3, X3 and VW Tiguan to be High Performance Police escort vehicles for VIPs in Malaysia?

What a day it has been. It turns out that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) may in fact be conducting evaluation tests on the BMW M3, X3 and Volkswagen Tiguan, likely as candidates to be used as high-speed escort vehicles.

Now, neither BMW Malaysia nor Volkswagen Passenger Car Malaysia could be reached for an official statement at the time of writing, though we were told outright by BMW Malaysia earlier in the day that the supplied vehicles were for a movie production, and reported based on the info given to us at the time.

It’s unclear what the nature of the arrangement is with PDRM, and it is possible the parties involved may have been (or still are) under strict non-disclosure. No materials relating to the matter have been found on PDRM’s official Facebook page and website, landing further credence to the NDA theory. Nevertheless, we truly do apologise for the misinformation.

Editor’s note: We did our best to clarify the story with credible sources, and were explicitly informed by BMW Group Malaysia’s head of corporate communication, Sashi Ambi that the vehicles were indeed supplied by BMW, for use as movie props. Alas, that has proven to be false information. Please accept my sincere apologies on this. – Hafriz Shah

Anyway, new photos uploaded to the Friends of PDRM page on Facebook showed police officials posing at the Bukit Aman foyer with the quintet, complete with new Polis High Performance liveries. Based on the caption, all five vehicles appear to belong to IPK Selangor’s escort division (CPP).

In the photo, the words “cadangan uji nilai” or evaluation vehicles can be clearly seen, so it’s very likely the cars were officially supplied by the two aforementioned companies. This means no public funds were involved, despite widespread online comments claiming as such. Honda Malaysia also supplied a unit of the FK8 Civic Type R back in 2019, although that was intended to be the Evo X Helang replacement.

Again, we apologise for the misinformation, and watch this space for an official update. In the meantime, what do you think of the M3 as an escort vehicle? Overkill, or not?

Why on earth do we the lowly rakyats have to pay for the extravagance of those special vehicles to push us aside in the traffic for all the unworthy VIPs??

This is a big waste of public funds!!!

Another careless article with lots of caveats highlighting the article’s unreliability.
It looks like even BMW themselves isn’t interested to respond to Matthew H Thong.
The title of the article that ends with a question mark says it all.
So honestly, what value did we get out of this article?

Doesn’t matter if real or not, most important is this statement: “This means no public funds were involved”

For eveluation of course no public funds involved, those cars will be returned to the respective distributor after the evaluation ends.

When the time comes to get those things, public funds will surely be involved.

The very fact that PDRM is planning all this special escorts for VIPs clearly shows that the law is not equal when it comes to VIPs, compared to the lowly rakyats.

To read paultan writers trying to spin this excessive, unfortunate PDRM requirement that is to be used for oppressing the general public to the advantage of a few VIP as something positive is very disappointing.

Is this the kind of police force that you want?

Of course for evaluation it is just a sample car from the manufacturers.

When the time comes for getting them for the fleet, those money will come from the taxes you and I pay.

The companies just does not give out evaluations if there is no requirement from the police.

Possibly it is cheaper to get souped up P1 X50s & may be X70s for this high speed escort job. There’s an earlier article about a modded X50, lapping the Sepang track.

Certainly the police needs better equipment to serve us better. Most people complain about the poor service but never support the police when they seek for improvement. They themselves drives M5.

PDRM need to improve the service and efficiency of their personnel since yesterday.

No point getting there in style and quick but all with “tak apa attitude”.

ITS JUST TOO MUCH money being spent on vehicles for ‘escort’ duties… which should have been pumped into surveillance and enforcement and other people oriented policing needs.

  • talking abt high speed escort, dmn i hate them. only a 3-4 cars convoy, but they forcefully push all cars to the side even when its high traffic and not safe to merge into 1 lane. 1 lane is not enough for them? die die need 2 lanes . eg: MEX. those on the bike even seem as though they wan to hit you if fail to comply. legal gangsters.

This is indirectly pointing to those already well built, adequately fast, compliant in car crash tests of X70s and etc isn’t up to the VVIPSs par?

Also why do they need to get around that fast and clearing the traffic that aggressively?! Many of the VVIPs work rate isn’t reflected and worthwhile for vehicle of these calibre.

Dah la the VVIPs already owning at least a Vellfire.
