Toyota, Daihatsu, Suzuki to unveil jointly-developed prototype EV mini-commercial vans with 200 km range

Suzuki, Daihatsu and Toyota will unveil prototype mini-commercial vans with an electric powertrain jointly developed by all three companies. The electric vehicle (EV) prototypes will debut at an exhibition event that highlights the automotive industry’s efforts to achieve carbon neutrality. The event, which will be organised by the the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) from May 18-21, will take place along with the G7 Hiroshima Summit.

According to an official release, the development of the prototypes involved Toyota’s electrification technology, while Suzuki and Daihatsu provided their expertise in creating small-size cars. Based on the provided images, the production versions of the prototype are referred to as the Suzuki Every, Daihatsu Hijet Cargo and Toyota Pixis Van.

Each brand will release their own version of the vehicles within the 2023 fiscal year, but only Daihatsu is tasked with their production. The mini-commercial vans also saw input from the Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corporation (CJPT) to ensure they had optimal specifications for efficient last-mile logistics.

The cruising range per charge is expected to be approximately 200km, and further development is currently underway to ensure the vehicles meet the needs of customers in the delivery industry.

For commercial use, I hope they have a “hot-swap” battery tech for practicality.

Knowing Malaysian government policy, they will want people to get special driving licence and many more pening obstacle to drive this van even though it is a minivan. No wonder Malaysia SME is so weak compared to other countries. Many people get pening and turned off to become entrepreneur. Other smart countries encourage more SME but we make more headache for SME
