Ford has revealed the production European Ford EcoSport SUV at the 2013 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Built on the Fiesta’s platform, the EcoSport will deliver the agility and fuel efficiency of a small family car with the flexibility, spaciousness, high driving position, and “go anywhere” appeal of an SUV, says Ford.
The EcoSport will be the second recent SUV to be added to Ford’s European range when it goes on sale later this year, after the new Ford Kuga. Ford also plans to bring to Europe the next-generation Ford Edge, which is popular in America.
The European Ford EcoSport will be equipped with Ford SYNC voice-activated in-car connectivity, as well as SYNC Emergency Assistance. In addition, the small SUV will be one of the first Ford vehicles in Europe to offer Ford SYNC AppLink, which enables customers to voice-control smartphone apps from the driver’s seat.
Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance directly connects the car’s occupants to local emergency services operators after an accident, in the correct language using information from the car’s on-board GPS unit, and mobile network to pinpoint accident location. Driver assistance features include ESP and Hill Launch Assist.
In Europe, the 4.2-metre long, 2-metre wide and 1.7-metre tall EcoSport will be offered with Ford’s award winning 125 PS 1.0 litre EcoBoost turbo engine, a 110 PS 1.5 litre petrol engine and of course, a 90 PS 1.5 litre turbodiesel.
Have a good look, because the Ford EcoSport is very likely to reach Malaysia in the near future. The “Fiesta SUV”, first shown to the world at last year’s Delhi show, has been confirmed for ASEAN. More recently, test mules have been caught roaming the streets of Thailand, where it will be built for the region.
Anytime soon now, although it’s not likely that we’ll get goodies like the 1.0 EcoBoost engine and SYNC Emergency Assistance. A naturally aspirated Ti-VCT engine à la Fiesta is expected.

tall and narrow…ugly
Knowing that there is many Ford fans in PT, so I have to be very honest [wear fireproof suit], it looks ugly with that chrome grill(teeth?), and that rear wheel dose’t do much justice. and the interior looks really cramp.
That said,this being a small-ish size CUV, I am extremely excited for it to be launch here, hopefully below RM100k. Small CUV, this and the Jazz-based Honda Urban concept, should be perfect for Malaysian road, high enough to cope potholes and light flood while small enough to navigate the crowded KL-roads.
RM100k is possible, especially with RWD only.
No ecoboost again??

“Stepping into the high cabin is quite easy and there’s plenty of legroom for tall drivers due to the higher seating position. Much of the car’s interior is familiar from the latest Fiesta, although it does feel slightly more airy in the front.
The rear doors are a little on the small side, so ingress isn’t quite as easy as it is into the front, but rear-seat passengers have sufficient legroom to be comfortable. There’s plenty of space for your feet under the front seats and while the seating position is a bit upright, comfort is pretty good. But this is still a compact SUV, so don’t expect acres of legroom or a particularly airy cabin.”
Very interesting indeed. Ideal for flash flood Klang Valley residence i suppose. Another option from Toyota Rush mini SUV category. Ugly … hmm very subjective. Some even called the Landrover Evoque ugly as well. Personally I think it’s quite refreshing. Is there any continental mini SUV’s around, besides the expensive MINI countryman ? … no answers. Hope that it comes with Fiesta like handling as well.
According to Autocar UK’s First Drive Review, it handles well.
“On the dips and rises of flowing country roads, the EcoSport just doesn’t roll like something with its belly floating 200mm above the asphalt should. As with the Fiesta, the steering is both light and feelsome and this, together with good body control and beautifully weighted brakes, makes this car a joy to drive, even at a slightly relaxed pace.”
Our Ford in Malaysia are so lembap. Actually, its Ford’s holder, Sime Darby. Sime Darby is so lembap that they will bring this car in in 10 years time. The current Escape also they do not want to update. The current Escape came out so long ago but Sime darby is more concerned about giving countless of BMWs to their staff instead of concentrating developing their car business. Oh yeah, btw, when BMW comes our with their annual sales, and supposedly beating Mercedes, half of their sales actually go to Hertz Rental which is used as company cars for their staff at Sime Darby. There are about 1000 over BMWs used as company cars for their staff.
Price it around current Fiesta and it will be a success like the Ranger!
