The long-awaited replacement for the Alfa Romeo 159 (pictured) is set to make its world debut next June, Automotive News Europe understands. Known internally as “Tipo 952”, the replacement was initially touted to receive the Giulia nameplate but is now expected to come with a different name.
It is understood that the now defunct 159 was positioned against the likes of the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4. With that said, the new car will be a tad bigger and is believed to slot in between the BMW 3 Series and the 5 Series. A Maserati-developed platform, dubbed Giorgio, will likely underpin Alfa Romeo’s new model.
Said platform possesses a rear-wheel drive layout with optional AWD capability. Nothing solid has been mentioned in terms of engine options but it is presumed the new car will be offered with a range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. A flagship GTA variant with added firepower is also likely.
Along with the 159 replacement, the company is also bent on introducing a total of eight new models by 2018 as part of CEO Sergio Marchionne’s annual sales target of 400,000 units in 2018. Apart from the 159 replacement, Alfa Romeo is also set to introduce another flagship sedan along with an Audi Q5-rivaling SUV.

Hopefully the new Alfa 159-replacement model will still be aimed squarely at the ‘BMW 3 series class’ , even though the slightly bigger size (if it’s true). We need to have an Italian model to compete with the German compact execs. This should be followed by the Alfa 166-replacement model as well which utilized the Maserati Ghibli chassis. Can’t wait to see the all new Alfa compact exec. and also the all-new Audi A4 next year!
Almost 10 years old design, but this Alfa Romeo 159 still looks good. Timeless design?
I remember Proton copied the front grille and put it on Perdana… copy cat will copy good design.
Alfa desperately needs a reboot. They have fixed the reliability part no doubt, but their lineup is getting ancient. The Giuletta feels old compared to the others in the market. Hopefully now will the full Chrysler group with them, they can reboot this.
No resale value when it comes to selling. Need to send it to scrap metal. Don’t believe….go ask those who try selling their 156 or 159. They are so desparate that low baller also they give.
skit2 resale value…bullshitt….if u no money don buy ler…org kaya x ksh psl resale value…bukan beli properties ni….tipikal malaysian…
Vtek power,
Obviously you have good taste in cars if resale value is a priority when buying one. I bet the car you are driving now has very good resale value, you must be smiling every time you drive your car due to all the money you saved hehe. Enjoy your money, let Alfistis enjoy their Bellas. Cuore Sportivo!
I had few alfa romeo, and I newer enjoed more in driving a car.. Now I got VW golf and I never experienced more discusting feelings about car…. When i buy Golf I was thinking that is good selling opportunite… Never again in my life… JOY is important..
If you can’t afford a real car at least once in your life, you should keep your trap shut. No one will know you’re a poor urchin who buys a pathetic CKD Japanese car for a 9 year loan, if you don’t open your mouth and foam out words like ‘resale value’ at a place discussing Italian steel. You must be the type to purposely walk into a 5 star hotel and say it’s better to sleep at home with your aircon for free.
Those who always bring up the resale value topic are not genuine motorheads. They will always follow the crowd and buy those typical boring cars from the likes of Toyota and Honda. Italian cars are only for those who are passionate about cars that possess strong pedigree and character. Something the norm motorist will never understand. Forza Italia!!!
