Proton will be relaunching the Waja in Australia with a new name and look. The new name will be Proton 160GX. It’s time for a Waja facelift anyway. Estimated date for this to happen would be in September.
Will we get the new facelift Waja first or will the Aussies get it first? And will the facelift look better than the original or will Proton ahbengify it like the horrible silver Iswara LMSS? The Waja here in Malaysia has only gone through some minor facelifts, mostly additional minor trim additions around the exterior and new rims design which looks much more more better than the squarish spoke design of the original.
The new Waja might come with Campro engines instead of the Mitsubishi 4G18 used currently, which is also found in the Mitsubishi Pajero IO.
The Proton 160GX will have an estimated starting price of AUD$19,990 for the lowest spec model.

"horrible silver Iswara LMSS"…come on brother, I know Proton have churned craps in the past and we Malaysian have no choice but to buy but to say "horrible silver Iswara LMSS" is strong.
bala: it's just my own personal opinion on the facelift design of the LMSS car. on the other hand, i think the latest facelift coded LMST (the one which people refer to ad kereta kebal) looks good.
Paul.
Any comparison of prices of cars in Australia? What's AU$19,900 worth to an average ozzie?
Care to work on price comparison of cars of the world, or at least the region?
mamatd:
According to this page
daihatsu sirion (myvi) AUD$15,490
honda jazz 1.3 AUD$15,390
Suzuki Swift AUD$15,990
Nissan Pulsar (Sentra) AUD$18,990
Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 AUD$19,990
all the prices are manual transmission base models though.
Toyota Corolla 1.8 auto there is between 19K to 25K AUD.
walau almost same price with lancer 2.0? more expensive than sentra??? @@ what they thinking????
Proton thinks too much.If a waja is more expensive than a lancer,I am pretty sure that nobody will purchase a waja there.Somemore.A campro engine with no campro technology. What is proton thinking abt? This is not a correct method to make money even though they are hunger of making profit.
I am looking forward to the spyshot of the new look waja.
looking forward to see the car before comment.
I need a new car soon, and having drive a 1.3cc car for some time now, I am looking for a higher capacity car, (1.5 or 1.6 cc).
With the government policy on car are now certain, I will have the "wait and see" attitude.
Thanks Paul for the update.
Who has ever heard of proton anyway? no one drives them cause they're CRAP!
I reckon! i hate them, I've never heard anything about them
I HATE THEM THEY SUCK AND THEY'RE CHEAP AS JEEPS!
Paul, is it true we'll be getting Waja facelift this Sep? Any follow ups on this news? I reckon it'll just be minor changes. Hope i'm wrong.
After siting at the back of a WAJA and a Ford Mondeo, I dare to say, waja/impian has a better ride.
I want to buy a new waja and I am hoping for a facelift because all the wajas look the same in Malaysia since 2000. This month, EON has a promotion and almost RM4K discount for the waja with 2 airbags, 15 in rims and NO ABS. I want a car with ABS and nice headlights. If waja is going for a facelift, should I wait or not? One hand got discount of RM4K, on the other may lose out if waja change front and back lights plus restyling. Is the campro engine to replace the 4g18 mitsubishi engine? Pls advise if anyone knows…. I wana new car as my wira is approaching 9 years old.
