Suzuki Concept X2 SUV

Suzuki used to conquer the mini SUV market with their Suzuki Vitara, before the Perodua Kembara came along. I remember getting into a Vitara once. Bloody small. Suzuki has since gone missing in the Malaysian market until the return of the CBU Suzuki Swift and Suzuki APV this year. But we’ve not yet seen any replacement for the Vitara. Some new Grand Vitaras have been running around but they’re not really making much of an impact.

Suzuki revealed this Suzuki X2 Concept SUV at the New York International Motor Show back in March 2005. This is the second embodiment of the Concept-X SUV that was first introduced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Does anyone notice the toilet-bowl cover style bonnet that everyone is making fun of on the Proton Savvy? Looks like this SUV has it too.

The SUV came painted with a nice graphite paint. It’s targetted at the American market. “The Concept-X2 blends refinement, comfort, utility and all-road performance in a right-sized sport-utility design American drivers increasingly want,” says Koichi Suzuki, American Suzuki Motor Corporation president.

They’ve packed alot of goodies into the SUV. It has a V6 engine, full time 4×4, and a AM/FM/XM CD stereo with seven speakers including a subwoofer. The V6 engine is a twin-cam aluminium block making about 185 horsepower mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission.

It should make a good competitor for the Toyota RAV4 which has not seen a facelift for quite some time now.

    Great looking car.

The weak point of Savvy is not limited to the Hood only. Just look at its rear!

I test drove the 4×4 today and I was throughly impressed. This SUV is far different than the previous GV or XL7. The doors shut like a "real" car should. The car was a pleasure to drive, had some nice get up and go, unlike the past models. The interior was really nice, stereo kicked some a**. We asked about interior colors available and will be placing our order for a 4×2 on Monday.
