Subaru Liberty Blitzen Limited Edition

This is the Australian limited edition version of the Subaru Liberty Blitzen unveiled by Subaru at the Melbourne International Motor Show. While the Subaru Liberty Blitzen has been available in the Japanese market for quite some time, it has never been brought officially to Australia. This is a 200-unit limited edition run of the Blitzen in Australia, which is based on the Subaru Liberty 3.0R spec.B with exterior and cabin enhancements.

The Subaru Liberty Blitzen has the same 3.0 liter 6-cylinder boxer engine in the Subaru Liberty 3.0R spec.B, making 240 horsepower at 6600rpm. This engine is likely the same one in the Subaru B9 Tribeca as well. The engine has variable valve timing and twin cams per cylinder bank. The word Blitzen means Lightning in German, and while this car isn’t as fast as lightning it’s a pretty good metaphor!

The car will come in both manual and automatic versions. Manual versions are equipped with a 6-speed close-ratio gearbox while the automatics are equipped with a Subaru SPORTSHIFT 5-speed automatic.

The Subaru Liberty Blitzen comes in two colours - Bright Red or Obsidian Black. The Blitzen bodykit includes new wide sporty bumpers, a new front grille, side sills, and 18 inch alloy wheels. There is also a roof-lid spoiler for the wagon version.

This is an excellent choice for Subaru Impreza WRX owners who want to upgrade to something abit more luxurious. After all, the Subaru Liberty 3.0R spec.B which it is based on won the Australias Best Luxury Car under $57,000 award. No price is fixed for the Blitzen yet, but it will be announced soon before it’s debut in June 2006.

I’m thankful the Liberty hasn’t been given Subaru’s new nose-job yet.
