A old series of short promotional films by BMW starring Clive Owen as a driver. Beat The Devil is about a rock star who sold his soul to the devil in exchange for fame and fortune. Now in his old age, the rock star wants to renegotiate the terms with a reluctant devil. The devil challenges the rock star and The Driver to a drag race.
It was available online 3/4 years back, now the whole set is selling high on ebay. BMW scraped the project. I still have the full resolution some 100 mb/ep of it. There are 7 clips all
you can download all the 8 clips of the hire (not 7 as mentioned by mystvearn) plus the extras (the making and special featurette) from the internet in dvd quality. you need divx codec to view in high resolution.
the first season was 5 clips presented on the internet since 2001. later the hire was distributed in dvd for those who registered with bmwfilms.com. but the dvd was shortlived due to rights issue for broadcasting online vs dvd distribution with ‘the follow’ clip. year 2002, season 2 was later followed with 3 new clips.
sadly, bmw ceases all downloading by 21 oct 2005 and yet generated a high amount of publicity around the world from its films. the hire won cannes international advertising festival award 2002 and will be always best remembered.
paul, please bring on the nissan 350z feature film ‘the run’ filmed by nissan in stockholm.
There are two version of the first season DVD. The first version includes The Follow, the second does not. The second season DVD has all season one and season 2 shorts including The Follow.
It’s worth getting the DVD. The transfer is good and audio is Dolby Digital 5.1 The only minus point is the video is not in native anamorphic format. Rather it’s like letterboxed widescreen on 4:3 screen.
Managed to get my hands on the few remaining copies before they cease distribution last time.
