2008 Volkswagen Tiguan Artist’s Impression

autobild_tiguan.jpg

AutoBild has an artist’s impression of the Volkswagen Tiguan compact SUV, expected to arrive as a 2008 model. The compact SUV is based on the Volkswagen Concept A shown in February this year, and will be based on the Volkswagen Golf platform.

The compact SUV’s name was chosen in a somewhat democratic fashion, with over 350,000 European car enthusiasts voting from choices like Nanuk, Namib, Rockton, and Samun. The name Tiguan won the poll, and a good thing too as the name starts with a T, something in common with it’s older brother Touareg. The 2008 Volkswagen Tiguan will be priced to compete against the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V.

I’ll have one with a 3.6 liter R36 engine please. Thanks!

Started to get bored of all these sports-sedan-like crossover vehicles…. they couldn’t drift, and they couldn’t descend a steep hill without frantically searching for grip. Nothing can mix a BMW 3 Series and a Discovery …. and if mixed, it’s nothing.

i think p1 n vw are already doing things 2gether. notice how the vw polo n da vw featured above share the similar headlight design of the gen-2? interesting…

Looks better than toureg. Looks muscular with those pronounced wheel arches. Absolutely stunning. So, this should be aiming at LR Freelander territory.

Nah~ actually I’ll be drooling over if someone would hand me the keys of such a beauty, but when i think of the fundamental reasons for them to launch such a car/4×4/whatever ….. it started to get weird, they’re actually trying to stuff everything under one roof, a 4×4, a big strong engine, marketing it as “as comfortable as a sedan/saloon” then showing ads of these cars with executives on board, or a coupla families going for a picnic, or crocodile hunter in one of them for his new explorations…. it’s a ROJAK in pure car enthusiasts terms. Anyone saw the head on tests between an Audi Q7 and a Range Rover? The Q7 flops big time even with their acclaimed Quattro. And Porsche’s Cayenne Turbo losses to a Suzuki Jimny when the going gets tough. BUT, nothing beats a Porsche 911 on B roads, and not much can match Evo’s on tracks with that kinda price tag, or to say a Discovery is just many times more capable than a BMW X5. These are dedicated, focus vehicles that triumph on the technological side, whereby the Tiguan above, is 80% marketing oriented and 20% technology oriented.

well said ingolstadt, you know wat is a real cross-over? this is real life story, my pa;s friend owns a saundry shop up in the Gopeng Hill, the only spot is M’sia to see the big, ugly and smelly flower other than Sabah. He has been there for the past 40 years, going up and down the hills to get his stock from Ipoh and to ferry the asli down to the gopeng bus-stop. He has changed several vehicles over the years, but check this out, can you guess whats his latest drive?

A 1.8 Mazda Bongo. What the mod spec? He added 2 extra bars of steel his rear suspension which he custom made from the local hardwear store. Replace a bigger fan for the engine and of course took off the 3 row seat for extra boot space. He has been bongo-ing up and down the hills with his “cross-over” for the past 8 years.

3 years ago, some family friends decided to go up with his lexus 480/toyota Amazon, the engine nearly over-heated, mud water sipped into the expensive carpeting while crossing a stream and scratched the bodyworks along the way, ouch!

so much for expensive cross-over huh?
