Proton Savvy Sedan Photoshop

small_savvy_sedan.jpgIt is common these days for car makers to develop sedans out of hatchback bodies. You have the Honda City based on the Honda Jazz, the Nissan Tiida Sedan based on the Nissan Tiida hatch, and the previous generation Chevrolet Aveo sedan based on the Aveo hatchback.

It would make sense for Proton to develop an Iswara Replacement Model based on the Proton Savvy. Although the Savvy looks small, it’s 2,395mm wheelbase is actually longer than the current Proton Iswara’s 2,380mm wheelbase. So, have you ever wondered what a Proton Savvy sedan would look like? Theophilus Chin, a very talented graphics artist has the answer. Photos after the jump.

2008 Volkswagen Tiguan Artist’s Impression

autobild_tiguan.jpg

AutoBild has an artist’s impression of the Volkswagen Tiguan compact SUV, expected to arrive as a 2008 model. The compact SUV is based on the Volkswagen Concept A shown in February this year, and will be based on the Volkswagen Golf platform.

The compact SUV’s name was chosen in a somewhat democratic fashion, with over 350,000 European car enthusiasts voting from choices like Nanuk, Namib, Rockton, and Samun. The name Tiguan won the poll, and a good thing too as the name starts with a T, something in common with it’s older brother Touareg. The 2008 Volkswagen Tiguan will be priced to compete against the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V.

I’ll have one with a 3.6 liter R36 engine please. Thanks!

BMW Dynamic Driving Simulator

small_bmw_logo.jpgBMW has developed the Dynamic Driving Simulator, an enhanced driving simulation system to allow them to test their cars at it’s development center in Munich without actually bringing the prototype out on the road or track. The fact that it is a virtual simulation allows tests to be conducted under the exact the same conditions repeatedly, eliminating major variables in the testing and design process and giving the engineers better results. After the jump you will find two videos, one with a BMW 5-series going through a driving simulation, and the other an interview with Dr. Alexander Huesmann, BMW’s Project Manager for Driving Simulation. You can have a look at how the driving simulator looks like from the outside.

R3 Waja and Gen2 coming up?

small_r3_1.gifA little bird told me that Proton’s Race Rally Research division will be launching new R3 special edition variants of the Proton Waja and the Proton GEN2 very soon. While these will not be R3 Limited Edition Vehicles like the Proton Satria R3, anything with R3’s touch is likely going to be special.

Full specifications and perhaps photos to come later! Target launch date is sometime in August 2006. For now, I’ll post a photo of the GEN2 R3 Concept previously displayed at the Dreamcars Asia Motorshow 2005 for you to put your imagination at work.

c30_prod_1.jpg

Volvo’s C30 production car was not expected to be unveiled until the 2006 Paris Motor Show in September, but photos of the production version of the car has surfaced on the internet. The car does not differ much from the original concept shown at the New York Motor Show. Engine options are expected to be similiar to the line-up found in the Volvo S40 - 1.6, 1.8, 2.4, 2.5 T5 gasoline engines as well as two turbodiesels in 1.6 and 2.0 displacement. Barabus 1005 hp supercar

barabus1000.jpg

Barabus Sports Cars Ltd is displaying it’s 1005 horsepower sports car at the British Motor Show. While the company name seems to look like a strange typo of the Mercedes tuner Brabus, it’s car looks nothing like a Mercedes Benz. Barabus says this 1005 horses car is powered by a 6.0 liter V8 twin-turbocharged with dual intercoolers.

It doesn’t look too bad, but the front and rear somehow don’t match. And they really need to get rid of the silver coloured mesh grille and replace it with a black one or something.

Autoblog.nl has more photos.

Nissan invests in Southeast Asian market

small_logo_nissan.jpgNissan is investing in auto parts export facilities in Indonesia and Thailand, with the Thai plant set to become Nissan’s largest parts export base outside of Japan. The Thai plant is expected to generated some US$300 million worth of exports per annum, while the Indonesian facility is expected to generate US$100 million worth of exports, procuring parts from about 90 Thai-based component manufacturers. That is about 16% of the parts exported by Japan. The 40,000 square-meter Thai plant will begin operations in January 2007 while the Indonesian facility will go operational in August 2007.

Nissan Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, it’s Singaporean office will be managing the export operations for the ASEAN region, and will handle complex, cross-border financial transactions. Basically the production centers will be Thailand and Indonesia and the financial, marketing and management center will be in Singapore. The Singaporean facility currently handles Southeast Asian transactions but there are plans to grow it into a global centre to handle financial transactions worldwide. Singapore’s Economic Development Board (EDB) has awarded Nissan Asia Pacific Pte Ltd “International Headquarters” (IHQ) status, allowing the company to enjoy a tax rate of 10% and below.

This is quite a major investment! Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore. Geographically, Malaysia is in the middle of all three countries. But so far our National Automotive Policy has not been able to attract any new major investments from Nissan. Sigh! :(

Stay tuned for reports on the latest talks of a GM-Renault-Nissan alliance!
