Volkswagen Polo gets new 6-speed auto

vw_polo_bluekarer.jpg

Volkswagen has updated it’s Volkswagen Polo 1.6 FSI (105hp) with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, making it the first vehicle in it’s class with a six forward cogs to choose from. The new 6-speed slushbox has a Tiptronic function, and it’s gear selector is in the P-R-N-D-S formation. Selecting the S gear position activates a sportier shift pattern, as well as disables the 6th gear as the car’s top speed of 187km/h is achievable in 5th gear. If you prefer a stick shift, there’s also the standard 5-speed manual gearbox available.

Hmmm…..personally I don’t fancy cars with automatic transmissions. I still prefer a stick shift. But anyhow Kudos to VW for having a 6 speed automatic transmission on a small compact car.

BTW anyone of you noticed that the POLO seems remiscent of the older generation of VW Golf ?

Look, do you guys ever think than an auto (no matter how many gears) would need more maintenance than a manual which needs fresh gear oil over 60,000 km? Plus the auto oil is a bit toxic to the touch? Plus it adds more weight? VW can charge extra Euros for you to add one more gearing. Its called value adders.

Methinks its prepping for the new super-turbo engine and improve on the transmission efficiency and handling of the extra torque.

I think it should come standard in all their cars.

weird… top speed can be achieved at 5th gear… so 6th gear is just added just for the sake of making the car sound more impressive????

people always comment that proton has many versions of its cars, same with perodua. But I think VW is the king of versions and variants.. i’ve lost count on how many versions and variants of the golf and polo launched.

I believe the 6th forward cog is an extra OD gear to enable even lower engine speed at highway cruising.
With high petrol prices the world over these days, it would be much welcomed and appreciated, unlike R3 bodykits!

In contrast, it’s rather amusing to see an auto giant like Toyota ’struggling’ with intro of 5-speed AT (4AT for the all-new Thai 2.0L model) for its upcoming next gen Camry in Bolehland. Same fate for the all-new Corollas too in 20007/08?

    LOL!

Why don’t we all just DIY a kit car. That way, we use the existing junk for work, bringing kids around, shopping, those mundane day to day life. Kit cars on weekends on the tracks…uh..there is no batu tiga anymore right? ooops.

    Google Locust/Lotus 7.

bob, just go to Sepang Circuit for weekend track day to test your car.
Batu Tiga now turn into housing area.
