Dodge Attitude

dodge_attitude.jpg

We all know Dodge doesn’t really have a small car in it’s stables, which explains the Dodge Hornet concept and Chrysler’s on-going search for a partner to build small cars with. But somewhere south of the USA, in Mexico there are small Dodge cars going around the streets – the Dodge Attitude.

Looks familiar to you? You bet. The car is actually a rebadged 2006 Hyundai Accent, one model newer than the Accent that is available on our local shores right now. Dodge also sells a Dodge Atos – you guessed it! – a rebadged Hyundai Atos.

DaimlerChrysler and Hyundai used to have some form of strategic alliance together back in the year 2000 which involved DaimlerChrysler holding a 10% equity in Hyundai. This stake was sold in the year 2004 at a profitable US$912 million. It bought the stake in 2000 for US$428 million. They had a few projects together, even a small car platform but I don’t know what has happened to that now, since Chrysler is looking elsewhere for a small car development program. Another product of the partnership is the World Engine (1.8L to 2.4L), developed under the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance, or GEMA – a collaboration between DaimlerChrysler, Mitsubishi Motors, and Hyundai.

I wonder if someone will try to stuff a Hemi into a Dodge-badged Hyundai Accent.

Hemi into Hyundai Accent? that would send Accent from 0-100 in breathtaking speed! and…ends up just like Hammond the Hamster in jet cars.

Actually i got really pissed off with American car manufacturers for doing stuffs that solely took care of sales and not on the long term benefits of their brand image. WTF is this? putting the same badge of a Viper on an Accent?!? Ok, so its not the current one (the so called RX-S in Malaysia) which IMO is pure crap. Imagine the Chevrolet logo on the Camaro to end up on a rebadged Daewoo? ok, the Optra's werent as bad as the Elantras or Accents; at least they looked tons better.

American manufacturers should put more effort into strengthening their brands, build better quality cars than merely taking regbadged shits into Toyota's territory, they wont win with that sort of so -called 'effort'.

Rebadging is a billion dollar industry… they (the Americans) want some share of the same pie enjoyed by Korean, Chinese, Malaysian and other unknown vehicle manufacturers.

Dodge sumhow evokes the image of strong masculine cars especially when we are used to hearing its name with the normal lineup of the Viper or Charger. To hear its name with the Atoz or even worse, the Attitude when u kno this particular model is actually a Hyundai its proper name Hyundai Accent is just….wrong. You will just be emotionally shot!

Not really like the American designed car compared to those Jap & Conti cars. The American cars seem like oversize, dump & dull.. I don't think GM can make an impact here even though they have acquire majority share in Chevy Malaysia..

Heard that Dodge are getting their assembled Hyundai Atos from India (Hyundai Santos), to be marketed in Mexico, not in US…..I guess Americanas would be too big for such a car…..i for one, personally likes the Dodge Magnum; have sat in a model before; it's a well-built good quality car…

This has got to be the weirdest news that I've ever read. Hyundai Accent being rebagdge as a Dodge Attitude ? Why ? Isn't the Accent already being sold in the States ?

Interesting….. If i'm the boss of dodge, i'd only rebadge a car under my brand if i think it is a good car. Dont play play! It is my company reputation at stake! And the shareholder's money!

And i believe he did just that. That's why there's a Dodge Attitude.

i personally think that rebadging is no big issue… i mean in the states you can see various cars that pretty much looked the same but have tons of different names.. they're all rebadged … and while hyundai accent is already being sold in the states (for $6999, believe me that's the price), i do think that the dodge attitude might have some some sort of difference compared to the accent (maybe different trim etc) just like the dodge stratus and chrysler stratus … same car but different trim, the chyrsler name usually is the luxury version of the same car…. and small cars actually do have market in the states.. the rental car companies are really into small cars (they use to rent a "geo metro, looked much like suzuki swift" as a small car but now moving towards hyundai accent, kia rio and dodge neon) and heck, who would not want to buy a car that cost about the same amount of your salary in the states :)

Dodge has just become Dodgy, this is a damn disgrace and I am glad its just another stupid American car company that is doing it. The Accent is a poor arse excuse to challenge any japanese car in that category. And its a joke that the Americans just rebadge that crap to con both their local market and any idiots who think they are driving a Chevy when its actually some Daewoo Korean reject.

The American car companies are not doing well and have no response to the Japanese onslaught. Perhaps they are thinking that they can break the stranglehold by offering similar type cars?

Somehow, American cars have a very bad image of being fuel guzzlers and oversized even though they are not as bad as before. In fact, American or American badges Japanese and Korean cars are now much smaller and much improved (styling of some models need getting used to though). But they still need those big engines for larger models to travel long distances. Small engine cars are probably only for city use (their cities are probably much larger than our cities here).

Takes a lot of time for our public to accept them. More difficult as the Japanese have done so well here that the public doesn't feel a need for anymore alternatives from any other country.

Recently went to Cancún, Mexico and saw this car and was surprised to see it badged as a Dodge Attitude??? Saw a ram on the front where the Hyundai “H”logo is usually placed and thought it was weird. They have however kept the Hyundai logo on the wheel covers. It looks like they are being used primarily as rental cars or taxis. I guess they last longer the Dodge Neons!!!
