2006 Paris Motor Show: SEAT Leon WTCC

This is the SEAT’s entry into the FIA World Touring Car Championship, based on the SEAT Leon. The SEAT Leon WTCC was on display at the 2006 Paris Motor Show, letting us check out what inspired the recently announced 240 horsepower SEAT Leon Cupra.

The SEAT Leon WTCC was introduced in 2005, and unlike it’s 2.0 TFSI road-going Leon Cupra brother, it is powered by a 2.0 liter normally aspirated engine (a high revving unit, likely) as per WTCC rules. Power goes to the front wheels via a 6-speed DSG gearbox.

Very nice car, the rear looks similar to certain Alfa models, i forgot which. The front grille looks weird though; it’s as if it’s all covered. Does it have a function?

Does rev high indeed; Power: 260 bhp / 8500 rpm

And the grille does have a function on this car; the car is most likely a dummy (meaning no engine inside). For shows more often than not dummies are used since they do not damage/fade/wear in races. Since WTCC is a bumpercar series they tend to get damaged quite often ;)

Walter de Silva was Seat’s Previous Chief Designer (now Design Chief of Lamborghini) and had designed the 146/147/156..

Also , when Audi took over Seat the aim was to turn Seat into Spain’s answer to Alfa Romeo & BMW……..

This the second year the World Touring Car Championship is in existence, previously it was a “Beemer vs Alfa” European TCC…

Average Malaysian don’t know what a SEAT is, let alone that it is a VW Audi Group Sudsidiary. Or that is form Spain, or that it produces souped up cars.
