Nissan Murano GT-C vs Honda S2000

muranogtc.jpg

Another pointless shootout with suprising results by the folks over Fifth Gear. Who do you think will pull away in a race between a Nissan Murano GT-C and a Honda S2000? We find out after the jump… but first some brief introduction on what exactly a Nissan Murano GT-C is and what gives it the credentials to go against a proper sports car?

A Nissan Murano as we all know is a crossover SUV of sorts by Nissan, but the GT-C tag at the end of this model is more than just a styling exercise with a cool bodykit. The VQ35DE motor has been turbocharged with a single Garrett turbo-charger, resulting in an increase in power from 231bhp to nearly 350bhp at 6000rpm and 360Nm of torque at 3600rpm, mated to a CVT gearbox to ensure the engine always runs in the powerband. The Garrett turbo is a hybrid unit, built with a turbine from a Garrett T3 and a compressor from a Garrett T4.

Though turbo-ed, the VQ motor retains its high compression ratio of 10.3:1. Other enhancements include suspension and brake systems to match the new power.

Enjoy the video after the jump.

Capt : The Murano is a sweet ride but unfortunately in Malaysia we dont have the necessary personel to fix it if there is any wrong with the car. I've heard that even Nissan themselves dont have the professional staff to handle it.

HMMaster : yes there is something wrong with the video.

Very impressive, a large SUV, only 3 seconds slower than a sports car. My guess is that the Murano's acceleration in the straights made up for what it lacks in the corners.

very nice and impressive murano… looks more muscular with the bodykits and more importantly the sport rims! it'll beat the other models of SUVs easily eh… thumbs up to nissan

would it be priced like a BMW X5 if it reaches our shores? lol

aesthari : with somewhat similar power to weight ratios, its more likely the overall weight and the inersia that the murano carries into the corners. the 3secs are wasted on the braking time going into the corner, and then the time needed to rebalance the car after the corner, then step on the pedal. if she were to step on it at the axis of the corner, she will lose the rear.

this is a good car…but i rather wait for the mazda cx7!..looks a lot hotter and mazda promises a tight handlin!..well..mazda;s cars are good handlers..let it be the large mazda 6 or the nippy rx8…so ir rather put my money on tat..but the murano is a pioneer of sorts in its field though..but then again…so was the mercedes ml in the luxury suv segment..but its not the best..

Murano is rated 5-star by Jeremy Clarkson, which is a rarity among Japanese makes, even more rare for large SUVS!!!! That rating alone made me feel respectful of this car. As for S2000, its described by him "to hv a

Paul, why nt u make crazy race like this? The Brits do all kind of thing, race a Mazda against a dog (I did nt manage to watch this vid sadly, can upload it back, Paul?), Mitsu defeated a Lambor, Audi RS4 defeated by mountain climbers, et cetera. nope SUV are great for sport in a straight line, right up until a set of corners then i think you would think otherwise.

its a silly idea to travel fast in an SUV, a silly idea that prevents me from buying one as much as it tickles my childhood fantasy of hurtling down a narrow river in a battleship with rockets.

wouldn't put my money on it, don't like an SUV high driving position, sorry its just me. Find it uncomforting that im not bolted as close to the ground.

Nissan themselves said that this is an SUV with “sports car handling”. Pointless comparison? Totally doubt it.
