BMW Service Inclusive and Repair

small_bmw_logo.jpgI’ve noticed in the comments for the previous post on the new BMW car launches that many are comparing the prices of BMWs to other makes and doing comparisons on price vs. performance. even compare a brand new BMW to a used car. But I think many do not know of “BMW Service Inclusive and Repair”, something offered as standard with all new BMW purchases in Malaysia.

BMW Service Inclusive and Repair is an after-sales maintenance plan that basically means you do not need to worry about maintaining the car at all for the first 3 years or 60,000km. Now, the Service part means that all scheduled services for your BMW within the period the plan is in effect is absolutely free. Then we move on to the Repair part of the plan, this is what steals the show. It covers situations beyond the scheduled services. This means you can bring your BMW into an authorized Service Centre at any time for anything. Whatever conks out, it will be replaced at no extra cost to you using original BMW parts.

Essentially, you will have zero worries on maintaining your BMW for the first 3 years. This plan comes with all BMWs sold since February 2006. If you sell your BMW during the first 3 years or 60,000km, the service plan will also apply to the new owner until the time period is over. I think many overlook this perk when choosing between a BMW and it’s competitors.

From BMW Malaysia’s site:

this is the first time i heard about this plan. if proton do the same thing, say waja price at the same with vios, but waja have this plan, it should be good for customers and proton image.
    my 2 cents.

this is the first time i heard such plan. if even waja can have the same plan but prices at vios tag, i’m sure it is still good for proton customers and images.

Wow.. not just free labour but including maintenance parts too! Now thats a real deal.

Paul, when you mention repair beyond scheduled service, does that include self accidents e.g. ram into lamp post, driving over road dividers, etc. etc? Not that I’m a clumsy driver, but if it does cover those, I would give BMW a double thumbs up for excellent after sales service!

BrakeFader: I think you can get those covered by your insurance policy. I think this is more for mechanical/electronic failures? I’ll ask BMW.

One of the smart way to retain existing customers, whilst enticing new ownerships outthere. I guess with the high volume of bimmers sold in Msia, its pretty affordable for AB to provide such services. When you have more cars on the road than in the used car dealership, it will mean that the average bimmer car resale value will not drop as much a other competitors. Also by keeping the car out of the yards, the resale value does not depreciate so much as there would be lesser used bimmers around.
It the maths worked out, AB would stand to make profit out of this move, as Msian are generally worried abt re-sale value of the cars, rather than on purchase price alone.
I guess for the rest of competitors outthere should emulate bimmers and not to fall into the cheap warehouse sales tactics, that not only damages their image in the long run, but also creating loss.
    great work bimmer.

…my proton savvy has 2 years of this BMW thing. So nothing weird there. Just that within 3 years it will not be broken right. You still have to pay for the oil change right?

  16. BobMarley said,

If i were in the market for a new car this wouldnt effect my purchasing decision. Although it would be comforting to have for the 3yrs or 60,000 mi waranty, i would expect ANY new car to be problem free for at least 80,000+ miles (especially a BMW). The cars that are produced today are much more reliable. This type of waranty should be the industry standard.

Brakefader: I am 99.9% sure the waranty doesnt cover personal accidents. The cost would deffinatly exceed the benefits in that case for BMW

hehehe what part of “totally zero worries” that confuses u….

oil changes cost $10-100 which isnt a significant amount to worry about when purchasing a premium brand car like BMW. ..atleast if your not strugling to pay off your BMW

i got a swift and the 50k service ta paus everything.. i just did my 3rd service, changed the plugs, oil and filters (including the a/c ion filter) and all i needed was to show the service coupon. not a single sen to pay until the mileage exceeds the 50k or 3 years whichever is first

I think this a good trend among car dealers and distributors in Malaysia. I’m sure about 90% of all breakdowns happen because of poor or infrequent maintenence. By offering free maintenence (personally i think that it’s already factored into the price of the car) the principal can be sure that all thier cars sold are well maintained and give their customers a good experience. This will raise the customer retention of the brand hence a better reputation of the brand. Plus existing customers will be more likely to buy another BMW after this. Another plus as stated by another forumer earlier is that the 2nd hand value will be more likely to comand a good price as all examples available on the market, bought from Auto Bavaria less than 3 years old will be assured to be well maintained. I personally own a Honda and they do a similar thing but for only the first 40,000 km or 2 years. Upto now i’ve not paid a sen for car maintenence. Free maintenence is the way to go! Kudos to those who have realised this.

Oil changes are totally free as per the recommended intervals. The cost to have you oil changed depends on the engine you have i.e. how much oil is needed. It can range from RM 300 - RM 700.

this is not sumething new. Toyota and Honda both have this plan for sometime now. For Honda cars its 2 year free maintainance (parts&service) or 40k Km whichever is first, and 3 years waranty or 100k Km whichever is first.

Proton recently came up with waranty 5years or 175k Km if i’m not mistaken. hehehehe. no free maintanance though.

familyman: are u sure honda and toyota’s part replacement policy is as extensive as bmw’s?

  25. BrakeFader said,

    January 24, 2007 @ 3:49 pm

BobMarley, Paul: Ok, Accidents maybe over exaggerated. But for those hard core drivers who drive as if they stole it, this would worth the “unscheduled” maintenance, such as disc brake pads and timing belt.

Besides, Free Lubricant and Oil filter does add up for 3 years. Proton had a similar Free Service for Savvy before and if not mistaken that is only for labour, not including Lubricant and Oil Filter.

buying a beemer worth every penny of it…dont worry I yet to find any MSIAN die because of BMW high maintenance or too exckusive but find a lot happily married/or courting girls of businesses…
this is car is really something and the free maintenance package is really cool

  27. BobMarley said,

    January 24, 2007 @ 8:52 pm

Brakefader: I totally agree…i would drive the car as hard as i could for those first three years. I would probably waste a lot of money on new tires though (new tires are rediculously expensive for these cars, and they only last about 15-20,000 miles)

  28. lembagatanah said,

    January 25, 2007 @ 5:17 pm

AB also cover moving parts? wow, that is really something. i though it just involved gearbox oil, power steering oil, coolant, labour, engine oil, and factory defected parts. if as extensive sampai brake pad, waaa….even tokey AB can nangis one
mystolencar, mine was just my 2 cents. if the toot toot manufacturer could possibly follow AB suit, it’s good for everybody, aite? but if and only if…

good thing considering they cost a bomb to service. good move to lock u in on a contract. build the base first. most likely the owner will like the car and continue to service it at dealerships beyond the 3 year time limit. and develope brand loyalty.

bmw is going super aggressive, and it shows as they have now caught up with merc in the executive market and even outselling them in some. also, i’m sure they’re looking over their shoulder at lexus also. its no secret that lexus has continuously used bmw as their benchmark.
