US Bill 1640 to ban spinner wheels

spinner_150_150.jpgThe city of New York has introduced a bill (S.B. 1640) to ban spinner hubcaps in the city. The S.B. 1640 bill calls for a fine of US$750 for the third violation onwards - two warnings will be given. The bill is currently being considered for inclusion in the state legislature.

I’m not sure why the ban though, unless some statesman thinks they’re too distracting to drivers or something. Or perhaps it’s too confusing, as the wheels look like they are spinning even though the car is stopped, so people might be unsure whether a car is moving or not… hmm? Or perhaps kids would get their fingers chopped off if they accidentally stick their finger into the spinners out of curiosity. Spinners are allowed under US Federal Law, so it’s kinda weird for one state to ban them.

The most awesome spinners I’ve seen? Dub Pimp Star Wheels.

Actually there are some shops in the Klang valley which carries this products.
And I must say they are the blinkest wheels you could get.
As for safety, there is actually a concern. The spinner disc is usually metal.
And when vehicle stops, the spinners still spins. Any kids out of curiosity would want to touch it, and there’s where the fingers detaches off. Mind you, because its metal made, its could really chop off a finger, while stationery too.

How about in Malaysia? Is this banned? If not mistaken, JPJ is not even allowing those neon lights installed underneath cars. But I do have seen a few cars with spinners on our roads before.

Anyone got info on the legality of these stuff?

spinners are cool. why they are banning them?

it is the parents responsibility to take care of their children and simply by suggesting spinners can cut off fingers of children who might touch the spinners doesn’t justify the action.

you’ve just destroyed a very unique culture of wheels.

It’s a health hazard to pedestrians in the event of an accident.

What’s the point ? U can’t even touch them, let alone see, if u r the driver…then again, u may ask, why do we even have a face if we can’t see it (minus the mirror)…

Funny of the bill to ban it, unless the spinnig parts can actually cause harm to people (coming loose and then causing disembowelment. decapitation etc etc). Never liked em though, too bling bling, all show and no go, looks like something the la la zais would love. On another note, I didn’t know that neons under car are illegal too. Is this true?

Nothing much to say, just agree with drM.

Just imagine those big huge SUV in the USA, with those so-called spinner wheels, or a Gallardo or BMW 760Li with spinner wheels, that’s cool man!!!!!

Anyone know where I can get those wheels in Penang or Butterworth area?
    Love those wheels…..

expensive for just for the sake of wheels, (as if only drug dealer can afford it),

but i think its simply a nick for a big chromy wheel,

Looks like they have nothing better to do and ban spinners, next they will ban cars with exhaust as big as the fist of the hand.
