2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Walkaround Video

2008 Lancer

For those who don’t want to be reading lengthy text about the new 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer, you can have a look at these two walkaround videos where you’re guided through the features and specifications of the new car in an interview format. Mind you, this is the new 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer, not the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X - so don’t be suprised by it having only 152hp and a 6-speed CVT gearbox. I do hope Mitsubishi Malaysia will bring it in soon, the last exciting thing in the C segment sedan market was the 2006 Honda Civic, we need something new for the new year!

Fifth Gear E92 BMW 335i Coupe Review

BMW 335i Coupe in Austria

I’ve been giving alot of attention to the BMW 335i lately haven’t I? I like the car, I really do - what’s on paper and what I’ve read anyway, as I haven’t driven it myself yet, unlike lucky peers Shannon Teoh and Jeremy Mahadevan who’ve driven the 335i in Convertible and Coupe incarnations respectively. Fifth Gear’s car reviewer Tom Ford takes the E92 BMW 335i Coupe, the same model Jeremy drove for a spin.

Video after the jump.

Honda adds Honda Accord 2.0 VTi-S to line-up

accord450.jpg

Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd has added a new variant to it’s Honda Accord line - the Honda Accord 2.0 VTi-S. Positioned between the existing 2.0 and 2.4 liter, the Honda Accord 2.0 VTi-S adds leather seats, leather steering, leather shift knob, dual zone automatic climate control system, 6 CD premium audio system, and an 8-way powered driver seat. This is a welcome addition to the line-up, as some would prefer to have leather seats and other creature comforts without the larger 2.4 liter engine of the Accord 2.4, which was previously the only Accord model with leather seats and the other mentioned options. Toyota’s new Camry already offers a three model line-up: a low spec 2.0, a high spec 2.0 and a high spec 2.4.

“We are pleased to launch the enhanced version of the Accord VTi-S. Honda believes in creating products that are of the highest quality yet at a reasonable price to our customers. The Accord VTi-S is synonymous with our high quality standards and provides affordable luxury to our customers. Honda aims to create more choices to fulfill our customers needs in line with our commitment to delivering new and value added products to our customers. Since its launch in the year 2003, the Accord has been well received by Honda customers for its exterior, interior and performance. Hence, this Accord 2.0 VTi-S is created for Hondas customers to offer additional features that can fulfill their need for maximized comfort,” said Honda Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mr Yasuhide Mizuno.

ZAP-X: Performance MPV with in-wheel motors based on Lotus APX

lotus_apx_450.jpg

Zero Air Pollution, or ZAP, is a US-based company that will be debuting a new vehicle, the ZAP-X, at the North American Dealers Association show next week. ZAP already has electric cars and trucks on sale in the US, so it is not new to the electric vehicle market. The ZAP-X will be using Lotus Engineering’s Versatile Vehicle Architecture. We saw the VVA’s potential sometime last year when Lotus showcased a vehicle called the Lotus APX or Aluminium Performance Crossover, which used the VVA chassis and was powered by a supercharged Lotus “Project NEF” 3.0 V6.

The ZAP-X will seat 7, and will most probably look alot like the APX, however instead of being powered by the V6, it will have in-wheel electric motors - four of them, and this will give about 635hp and a top speed of 250km/h. It looks like the Lotus APX did not go to waste after all. This is also not the first time Lotus has worked with electric vehicles, remember the Tesla Roadster?

BMW 335i Convertible Test Drive Report

e93drive1.jpg

The E93 BMW 3-Series Convertible was unveiled to the public in October last year, and has since sparked many questions. How would it handle compared to the 3 Sedan and 3 Coupe, and could it maintain the sleek shape of the 3 Coupe with the inclusion of all the necessary equipment to have a hard top folding roof? BMW gave lucky motoring journalists a try at the 3 Convertible in Arizona, USA, and though I did not manage to attend the test drive event due to work, Shannon Teoh covered the event for paultan.org readers. Read his findings after the jump.

New Mercedes Benz Pricelist (19 January 2007)

smallmblogo.jpgDaimlerChrysler Malaysia has updated the prices of it’s Mercedes Benz passenger cars, in both CKD and CBU form.

This follows the recent reduction in excise duty for vehicles above 3,000cc, so expect only the high displacement cars to enjoy significant savings on price.

Price list table with comparison available after the jump.

X Works Automotive Concept X1 Sportscar

x1_1.jpg

One look at the X Works Automotive Concept X1 Sportscar and you’ll be reminded instantly of the Prodrive P2. That’s excused though, as it looks similiar, in the sense that it also has a 2-seater coupe body, and it also uses an engine from one of the rally car kings, this time the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution’s 4G63T motor, much like how the Prodrive P2 is Subaru boxer-powered.

The Concept X1 was developed over a span of 30 months by X-Works Automotive, using carbon composite technology for the passenger cell. Attached to the cell are lightweight aluminium and carbon subframes which carry the drivetrain components. The Concept X1 weighs 1,180kg in road car form, but you can specify a track car configuration which brings down the weight to 1,000kg. The 4-cylinder DOHC turbocharged 4G63 Evo engine in the Concept X1 is tuned to produce 350hp, but there is also a further tune-up option for 500hp. Wheels are 18″ Lightweight Alloys with 235/40/R18 tyres.

So, which is better, the Concept X1 or the Prodrive P2? Both are 4 wheel drive, but from what I can see Prodrive seems to have put more development into the Prodrive P2’s differential. But there is one thing that makes the Concept X1 have the ultimate edge over the Prodrive P2. It will actually be produced, instead of being stuck in the Prodrive P2’s engineering concept status. Expected retail price is £45,000.

More photos after the jump.
