Weststar LDV Sdn Bhd will soon launch a short-wheelbase MPV version of it’s Weststar LDV van for private use targetted at middle-income earners, and willl price it slightly over RM100,000. The Weststar LDV is basically a rebadged LDV Maxus light commercial vehicle, with the CKD kit coming from UK and assembled locally at DRB-HICOM’s plant in Pekan with 18% local content.
Originally production was planned for sales of 50 vehicles a month, but overwhelming response and 200 orders upon launching have prompted Weststar LDV to consider upping production to 1,200 units a year. Weststar also plans to export the vehicle to countries like Vietnam and Indonesia under the Weststar LDV Maxus badge.
I think some of you may remember the name Weststar. Yes, the company belongs to Syed Azman’s Weststar group of companies, who used to hold the franchise APs for Honda.

Reminds me of Inokom Permas, a rebadge of Renault Traffic. Looks good today, but looks like spare parts might be an issue if this company suddenly stops supporting this product one day.
MPV for RM100K? Toyota Hiace would be a better choice as spare parts should be more available in the long run. If you need to carry stuff, getting a lorry with a box behind would be a cheaper option.
100k? better get a new Hiace for this price.
But better still, i will prefer Kia Pregio.

a MPV should provide subtle rides comfort! not those load carrying suspension made called a MPV ? VAN its a VAN! V-A-N! or BIG VAN also can !
some manufacturer though using the MPV name could increase its value and market attractiveness……. Wake Up!
If they managed to offer lots of features and tidbits into the MPV to make it comfortable to the passangers, RM100K is a reasonable figure. A perfect Naza Ria competitor, since it's basically a continental make.
The LDV is a reknown specialist commercial van maker in the UK, which won many accolades in Europe. The platform was customized into more than 20 variations, from a minibus to a MPV. Its bigger and better engineered compared to Hiace & Pregio. But a bit shame on the looks.
I agree with normaluser. LDV is specialised on commercial vehicles. Even when they advertise on newspaper to find drivers for their companies, they will write LDV drivers. they wont write whatever things. Vans here in UK are extremely popular. Pick-up trucks aren't. only in Malaysia ppl use pick-ups. Vans here are very big that you can shove a car inside. I think LDV is under Ford if not mistaken. the front design is like Ford Transit which sell like hot cakes here in the UK.
Not another Inokom look-a-like. My dad bought an Inokom for business and boy… what a regret! Why? Parts are difficult to find and super expensive. Plus, being a Renault, it is not reliable and breaks down easily. Recently, manage to get rid of it for RM 4k. Condition is horrible because left to rot for years.
It has been a year since the news report on the Weststar mpv and lately I’ve been trying to find if it is already in production or not. However my emails and telephone calls went unanswered. Anybody knows what is the latest news? I’m seriously considering the vehicle as a the basis for a camper van. Failing it, I may consider the Toyota Hiace High Roof. Any comparative opinions and advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
