Honda S2000 Club Racer Prototype

S2000 Club Racer

Honda will add yet another new variant to the Honda S2000 model range, called the Honda S2000 Club Racer. A prototype version is currently being displayed at the 2007 New York International Auto Show called the Honda S2000 Club Racer Prototype.

It features a new aerodynamically proven full bodykit which reduces lift, plus a quicker steering ratio, wider rear tyres with grippy Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tyres, firmer springs and dampers, and larger stabilizer bars. Additional structural bracing has been added to the storage area previously used to store the soft top. Yes, the Club Racer has no retractable soft top, but instead comes with an aluminium hard top, saving about 40kg when removed. Yes, it is a removable hard top, not one of those new fancy auto folding ones like the one on the new MX5 variant.

The F22 2.2 liter DOHC VTEC engine makes 237 horsepower at 7,800rpm and 220Nm of torque at 6,800rpm, mated to a close-ratio 6-speed gearbox with ratios designed to keep the engine revs within the VTEC powerband. There is also a limited slip differential to help the car perform better around the bends. Strangely for a somewhat track engineered car, it comes with an electric power steering which is seen as some as having less feedback than a conventional hydraulic one.

Seat fabric color spoiled the car. Front bumper needs more effort. Everything else is nice, love the color-coded spoiler, naked carbon fibre can be boring sometimes.

Btw, Paul, do you have any news of diesel-powered models coming in soon? I’d love to know, since you’re the greatest source of car info in all of Malaysia haha. Thanks!

The S2000 is looking dated. And even with the new bodykit, it looks sanitised. Need a new model.

paul, i think the s2000 was one of the first japanese cars in the market to have electric power steering when it was launched if i’m not mistaken.

When would Honda churning out the replacement ?

seems Honda had out of idea already…… put too much effort on Civic, Stream, CRV and the upcoming Accord until forgotten it STAR! the S2000!

the s2000 maybe a star, but remember, the other cars are the money makers.. the city’s and civics, and crvs..etc. Without these models, a car like the S2000 will not even exist. The S2000 is a niche market 2 door - 2seat sports car. It will only be sold in relatively low volumes. So the priority will of course be with the bread and butter models.

are u saying that owners of this S2000CR have to lug around a massive 40kg piece of “hard top” if they fancy it on/off? in BolehLand weather setting it is redundant, most likely will stay glued on the car. might as well produce a full-bodied S2000 and name it S3000. then this wud be a perfect pocket rocket.

Usually when I see 2 hump, I get excited. But in this case…I feel numb. Woit why they make over the perfect sexy body?

old but still functional. even if the aero package does work it looks too boy-racer-wanabee-ish, needs more displacement.
