World Car Of The Year 2007 Awards

lexus460wcoty.jpg

The results of the World Car Of The Year 2007 awards have been announced, and the winner is the Lexus LS460! The LS is available on our local shores in long wheelbase form - the Lexus LS460L. The other two top contenders for the award was the new second generation Audi TT and the new second generation MINI Cooper/Cooper S. The other contenders in the top ten finalists were the Audi Q7, Citroen C4 Picasso, Citroen C6, Fiat Grande Punto, Jaguar XK, Mercedes CL-class, and the Suzuki SX4/Fiat Sedici.

To be eligible for the overall World Car of the Year title, cars must be on sale in 2006 on at least two continents. The awards are conducted by automotive journalists from all over the world. This year there were no Malaysian jurors on the list. There was a Malaysian juror on the list back in 2005 - Daniel Fernandez, managing editor of Asian Auto Magazine. There are three other supplementary awards - World Design of the Year won by the Audi TT, World Performance Car won by the Audi RS4, and World Green Car won by the BMW Hydrogen 7.

no really know the Lexus LS460 and no comment on it..
quite support that new Audi TT win the awards for World Design of the Year, since is hard to having the design which having all new modern design but still have to remain the previous TT concept and design..

Dang, the car with “no soul” won… I guess it all comes down to the overall attributes of the car…

This car is beautiful, the size is wider than the BMW 750 from what I saw.

Audi sure is on a roll. WCOTY finalist, WCOTY Design winner, WCOTY Performace car winner. Add to the fact that Audi is the number one selling premium car manufacturer in the U.K. beating Merc and BMW.

I’d like to know more details about the criteria and basis of the award, as every review that I’ve read put the Merc S350 ahead of the LS 460. I always believe that the Lexus is a better car except that it comes with a 4.6 litre engine. Presently, in Malaysia, anything above the 3 litre threshold is going to rip you off when paying road tax.
All it’s competitors, ie the S Class, Audi A8, BMW 7 series, and Jaguar XJ have a range of engines , including the ever popular diesel versions, but Toyota has decided to make the LS too exclusive. With a 3 litre engine, I’m sure it will garner more sales.

    What a pity. hahahahah ~~

The awe inspiring, ultimate driving machine, sporty, the creator of executive sports cars, world’s fastest saloon, engine of the year, handling, rear wheel drive, 50:50 weight distribution, bangle style, controversial performance and styling.

And BMW won green car of the year. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

The judges must be playing a fool with BMW for being too snobbish when they won the 2006 award and came out with those snobbish ads. hahahahahaha

I just couldn’t stand it if Audi were to retaliate with this:

Congratulations to BMW for winning World Green Car of Year 2007.

    OOOO

From the winners of World Performance Car of the Year 2007 & World Design of the Year 2007.

I think RS4 won because they are comparing it with 335i coupe not M3 ? So the result is 335i coupe get second place.
I really puzzle how LS 460 can get this award ?

Is this the one with that Otoman seating thing? Hybrid?

Well its easy no Malaysian jurors, how to invite when the car just launched and not really something everyone can buy/ride like honda.

You know Jeremy Clarkson actually awards this car 4-star rating, in fact, recently, he named the Lexus GS400h as his good car in TG s9 ep2.

Soul-less this car maybe, bt it’s very comfortable. I think the only other car which can compete its rear seat ala 1st class cabin is the Maybach 62. Dunno what, Lexuses nowadays invoke the same feeling I have with BMWs: annoying, and have uncountable reasons to hate them, bt goddamn good in delivering their purpose. No matter what, BMWs are the best in driving, and Lexus are somewhat more refined than the Europeans….good looking too.

IMHO, Lexus is the only luxury car in the world with respectable reliability track record. 10 years later after dropping more than 80% in price, only then can dream to buy one.

It’s not surprsing that Lexus and Audi are among the top winners.

They both possess the technology, enthusiasm and the drive to MAKE THINGS HAPPEN.

If the image issue is set aside, they are certainly at par with the other luxury makes - if not even better.

    Cheers!

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for your relentless efforts to bring us news & updates on autos & the industry, THANKS!

As I was reading this, I checked out the website … hope I got the correct one, and in WCOTY website, it said that Merc’s the winner of the green car award? … MERCEDES-BENZ E320 BLUETEC - 2007 WORLD GREEN CAR …

    Here’s the link I went to :

    http://www.wcoty.com/media/?release=31&year=2007

    Well … it’s cool anyway.

Yes, I’ve rode in a LS460L before. Damn bloody comfortable car! The V8 engine is very refined… Damn, I can hardly even smell any exhaust fumes coming from the exhaust pipes! Which means that engine is very, very efficient.

However, I find its looks to be bland… Too Toyota-like… Nothing special, doesn’t quite evoke emotions like the S-Class or the 7-series.

some just less treasure the ’soul’ of a car and might value or looking for lowest maintenance, ultra plush comfort, super fine engine. nothing wrong with that …. but some would choose the ’soul’ over all that anytime anywhere.

i love Lexus man…..the LS460L, is not a car!! it’s a room….it’s just one of those things that u will never know till u actually see it…it’s like a ghost…u don’t only have to see it…u have to feel it, be in it…once you’re in…….brought around for a drive….it’s one hell of an experience in life……this is how i would describe the LS 460L, when u sit in the rear right seat…u are the center of the universe, everything else evolves around you….go check it out your self…walk into any lexus showroom….walk in with slippers, shorts, a singlet, they will not descriminate, they’ll entertain u….enter that WORLD……it really is in the pursuit of perfection…
