BMW X6 sloping coupe roofline exposed!

bmw_x6_roofline.jpg

Finally that heavy masking has come off the upcoming BMW X6 test mule’s rear end and we get to see how the roofline of the X6 slopes like a coupe… they weren’t kidding apparently. Looking at the downwards curve of the roofline from the B-pillar onwards, the BMW X6 could end up with GEN2-like rear passenger headroom - the keyword here is limited. The BMW X6 will be a 4-seater, with a center console dividing the rear bench into two much like the 3-Series Coupe and 3-Series Convertible.

Somehow I can’t help but notice I’ve seen this whole concept somewhere else before this, which means BMW isn’t really the first one out there with SUV sporting an outrageous coupe-like sloping roofline. Look after the jump for an SUV by another manufacturer that has already gone into production which features this design element.

BMW 135i Coupe - not as pure as we thought?

BMW 135i Coupe

A brochure for the BMW 1-series coupe has been leaked out onto the internet, and it reveals to use some juicy details about the BMW 135i, which BMW wants to position as the new BMW for driving purists, something to replace the likes of the E30 M3.

We find out that the 135i Coupe has an unladen weight of 1,560kg, and the BMW 335i Coupe according to BMW Malaysia’s website has a weight of 1,505kg. Now that can’t be right. How can the 135i Coupe be heavier than the 335i Coupe?

Taking a look at the 135i Coupe’s brochure again, it appears that BMW UK calculates their weight differently by including a 90% tank filling, 68kg for driver, and 7kg for luggage. So we compare to the BMW UK figures for the BMW 335i Coupe and we get 1600kg for the manual, and 1615kg for the automatic.

That’s a mere 40kg difference between the 135i Coupe and the 335i Coupe, both manual versions and running the same 3.0 liter twin turbo engine. How will this attract the driving purists who want something light and “tossable”?

40kg is kinda like the weight of an underweight female passenger. The only thing the 135i has going for it is a shorter wheelbase and a smaller body. But maybe BMW has something else up it’s sleeves - no one has driven the 135i Coupe yet. Maybe it is better drive, some way, some how.

Ferrari 430 Scuderia

Ferrari 430 Scuderia

These are the first photos of the new Ferrari 430 Scuderia, which you will be able to see in person at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2007, unveiled by none other than Michael Schumacher.

The new Ferrari 430 Scuderia joins it’s siblings the F430 coupé and the F430 Spider, and has a weight-to-power ratio of just 2.45 kg per hp thanks to a low dry weight of just 1250 kg – 100 kg less than the F430.

Sitting in the engine bay is a 4.3 liter naturally aspirated V8 making 510 horsepower at 8,500rpm - a horsepower to displacement ratio of more than 100 horses per liter. This engine is mated to an F1 Superfast gearbox which shifts in 50 milliseconds.

The new model is a special series based on the F430 and is aimed specifically at Ferraris most passionate and sports-driving oriented clients. It uses an E-Diff electronic differential and F1-Trac traction and stability control combined in a single integrated system, tuned for a sporty drive naturally, one that is deserving of being in a Ferrari.

New Aerokit for Toyota Corolla Altis

Toyota Altis Aerokit

UMW Toyota Motor is now offering an Aerokit for the Toyota Corolla Altis which includes front and rear bumper lips, side skirts, as well as wing mirrors that have signal indicators built into them.

As for the interior, the head unit for the 1.8G model has been updated to a unit that features MP3 and WMA playing capability, and in my opinion has a more stylish faceplate featuring a large center knob. Toyota is also promoting combination warm beige leather seats which are fade and crack-resistant.

It is not clear to me at the moment whether the aerokit is optional or comes standard with the Corolla Altis, but you can give them a call at 1-800-88-3333 from Mondays to Fridays between 8.00AM to 5:30PM.

Proton puts up new sedan teaser

Proton New Sedan

Proton has started putting up a teaser promotion for it’s new sedan on it’s website. We call it the GEN2 Sedan, however it looks like the new Proton sedan might most likely be called something else altogether.

Click here to check out the teaser. There’s not much information there really, other than a shadowy outline of the car which we’ve seen already in all the spyshots so far. However, if you click on the booking link, you’ll be able to see a list of colours available for the new car - Blueberry Tea, Iridescent White, Light Gold, Metal Grey, Solid Red, Solid White and Tranquility Black. You can book the car for a RM500 booking fee.

Prices:

Proton New Sedan 1.6 HL (M) AT - RM 55,800.00
Proton New Sedan 1.6 ML (M) AT - RM 52,800.00
Proton New Sedan 1.6 ML (M) MT - RM 49,800.00
Proton New Sedan 1.6 BL (M) AT - RM 48,800.00
Proton New Sedan 1.6 BL (M) MT - RM 45,800.00
Proton New Sedan 1.6 BL (S) AT - RM 48,350.00
Proton New Sedan 1.6 BL (S) MT - RM 45,350.00

(M) - Metallic Paint, (S) - Solid Paint

Model range:

BL - 4 power windows, CD player and basic features.
ML - all BL features with additional alloy rims, foldable rear seats, MP3 player and electric door mirror.
HL - all ML features with additional dual airbags, ABS, EBD and standard Captor alarm.

All variants of the car will include an extended warranty package which provides warranty support and coverage for up to five years. The financing package for this car carries an interest rate of 4.1%. Delivery time from booking is approximately 4 to 6 weeks, and status of delivery lead-time will be communicated regularly.

The teaser page now has a preview of each model’s specifications and a simple FAQ. The FAQ states that the booking fee is transferable to another Proton car if the car has not been delivered yet. It also pegs the official launch date at 15th August 2007, so we’ll just have to wonder what the name of this new car will be until then. But everything seems to indicate it will not be called a GEN2 Sedan.

All of the information on this page are collected from Proton Edar’s teaser page and booking page for the new Proton Sedan.

Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion now more economical

Polo Bluemotion

Volkswagen is of the opinion that if you don’t continue to improve your products and keep at a standstill, it is actually a step backwards as technology always evolves.

Thus, Volkswagen has further improved the Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion’s fuel economy by a little - from 3.9 liters per 100km to 3.8 liters per 100km, thanks to a 3-cylinder 1.4 liter TDI engine with 195Nm of torque that allows high gearing, low wind resistance with a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.30, as well as low rolling resistance thanks to fuel-saving tyres.
