Chevrolet Aveo 1.4 notchback launched in Malaysia

The new Chevrolet Aveo notchback was promised to us back in September 2006, but I guess DRB-HICOM’s Hicomobil unit had some issues to sort out or perhaps they were waiting for the right time to launch, so it’s finally here in 1.4 liter form.
The new Thai-imported Chevrolet Aveo 1.4 liter notchback sedan’s 1.4 liter DOHC E-TEC II engine puts out 94bhp at 6,200rpm and 130Nm of torque which peaks at a low enough 3,400rpm. This is mated to a 4-speed auto transmission that uses a gate shifter. The low engine speed at which peak torque is achieved is likely thanks to the usage of a Variable Geometry Intake System, which varies intake manifold dimensions to suit engine speeds. To help reduce NVH, the engine rests on three hydraulic suspension bushes to reduce engine vibrations. 0 to 100km/h acceleration takes 11.9 seconds, while top speed is rated at 170km/h.
The car rides on MacPherson struts at the front, and the rear is a torsion beam setup that is typical on daily A to B runabout sedans these days. There are two models, the 1.4SE and the 1.4SX. Only the 1.4SX has a driver’s airbag, and there is no option for a passenger airbag. Other important features to note include power windows, central locking, electric side-view mirrors, and a 400 liter boot space. The brakes are discs at the front and drums are the rear, but there is no indication on Hicomobil’s site on whether these are anti-lock brakes, so I guess they are not.
The Chevrolet Aveo notchback sedan goes for RM69,888 for the 1.4SE model, and RM72,888 for the 1.4SX model. Prices are not inclusive of insurance.
I was not invited for the launch so I don’t really have any high resolution product images to share with you guys. But a few of my previous posts have images of the interior, so you can check it out in the links listed below.

DRB is playing wise to make this car badge as Chevrolet, if it is badge as Daewoo, i’m very sure that the sales is not very well, since the Aveo.
But with this Aveo (notchback? why not aveo sedan? or Chev Gentra?), this car look more compress American, mostly the grill.
Just another rival for City and Vios. Proton BLM, come out! please come out with better design and spec. The interesting is, the price will be the cheapest in the B-segment car.

Actually I like the boot design of most Chevy. Price high with only Drivers airbag only. Anyway, I like the overall outlook & it probably would sell if its 1.6L specs. BTW, is it manufacture in Korea??
August 29, 2007 @ 10:05 am

wahlaueh…
web posted by mits27, the engine spec is 1.6kcc in US, poor Malaysian have to get everything down graded….
Well, Chevy car is really good for C-segment, atleast currently i am in US & rent a chevy Impala. If not mistaken 3kcc or 3.5kcc… same size as camry. drive for ~90miles a day never feel tired because of the comfortness of the car. New car price for the impala less than usd30k….
August 29, 2007 @ 12:07 pm
Dear Paul,
Can you do a comparison between this car, city and vios? That would be a good comparison for the readers…
August 29, 2007 @ 12:44 pm
a comparo with vios n city? wouldnt muster much interest, me thinks. look what happend to new spectra5 and optima… a non-event on this blog.
August 29, 2007 @ 1:04 pm
IMO, this car definitely has way more balance in terms of exterior design compared to Vios and City… but it’s a bit too pricey and of course as a rebadged Daewoo, need to think 10 times before considering.. nothing is perfect…
August 29, 2007 @ 1:23 pm
It’s a Korean sedan labelled as an American made…
Urgh! XP
August 29, 2007 @ 6:00 pm
