The Edge: Proton-VW MOI to be signed soon

Right after the report by The Malaysian Reserve a week ago comes another report by The Edge Daily on the Proton and Volkswagen negotiations. According to the report, a Memorandum of Intent will be signed soon and after further due diligence, things should speed up. The collaboration would most likely involve marketing, manufacturing, and distribution.

One thing I found interesting in The Edge’s report - apparently unnamed sources said the negotiations were taking so long to complete because the government wanted to “make sure the ecosystem of vendors and other companies providing services to Proton would not be eliminated.”

Proton shares peaked at 5.10 ringgit (a 18 sen, or 3.7 percent jump) but later settled down to a 1.2 percent increase to 4.98 ringgit as of 3:24 p.m. today.

Read the source to find out more.

After VW and Proton signed the paper, are there will be more VW cars on the road with cheaper price or more proton car with better quality?

It’s rubbish. it’s like a ‘never ending story’. Even mega-mergers or takeovers in EURO nations don’t take this long.

    What is going on?

Wow… The proton share trade volume reach 26000, i smell fishy… if u look at the valumn, most of the time is between 6000. Maybe some datuk or minister know that the VW is going to buy the Proton share, so fast fast buy it when it is cheap. Proton is cheap when under RM5, well if u have the guts then buy.. if u scare of the 10 years economic downpour, i think u better keep ur money until the real market worst then buy…

Haiz.. In reality all ppl in Malaysia know most of the top management in Proton are control by Cronies… That why the government wanted to “make sure the ecosystem of vendors and other companies providing services to Proton would not be eliminated.”

Still want to earn extra money into their pocket, while sucking dry the peoples money… Have u wonder how many car’s did Dr.M own? And how many he own is made by Proton compare to others? Even his son drove more Europeans cars compare to Asian cars…

“the government wanted to “make sure the ecosystem of vendors and other companies providing services to Proton would not be eliminated.”

Any foreign automaker would like to have a local business partners (manufacturer, vendors or service companies) if you meet their requirements and they don’t want any “tom, dick, and harry” companies provide something that can tarnish their company reputations and sales and marketing. So what it that to worried about being eliminated…

There is nothing the Govt can do about it.. unless the Govt insist that these companies should not eliminated..(it goes by say these companies can’t take competition, need the “tongkat” for support as nice way of saying .. to be bluntly “operating under the Govt skirt” that can offend people.. ) …which I think it not acceptable by VW if that is one of the condition on the negotiating table (no deal amigo)

I just want a locally produced FSI engined car that’s cheaper than any SKODA, VW, or AUDI. Kalau boleh cheaper than the Toyotas, Hondas and Nissans, even better. Campro, chuck it out the window

Nvm laa.. sure the G will offer them work in G office.. Since the G is so well take care of it’s people.. Or the other options, go to other automobile manufacturers like Perodua, Honda, inokom or Nissan in Malaysia to work. If still dont want? Thailand & Indonesia is always welcome them to come…

if the business cant sustain itself, then the employees need to get fired or retrenched. same as any company in the world.

its a car industry in this country and its should not be made for one company only. especially a lousy performing one at that.

  26. BigFish said,

    November 18, 2007 @ 12:40 am

shooter, if P1 clased shop and vW buy over Tg. Malim plant, ramp up the production to 1 million car annually (assume NAP sleep inside the grave), not only it can absorb existing staff, but need at least 5 times what P1 employ now!

“make sure the ecosystem of vendors and other companies providing services to Proton would not be eliminated.”

In a negative view, this statement will most likely be interpreted as our G trying to protect cronies and such but if we think further, the aftermath of not protecting these available vendors is that the lower incomed workers that are working under these vendors will have the risk of losing their jobs. The G is POSSIBLY trying to protect the big workforce that had been long involved in the industry. If not, it will worsen the already critical unemployment rates in our country.Maybe thats why the word ecosystem is used.
