Renault to revive Alpine badge with MR sports car

Renault wants to revive its Alpine brand with a new range of Alpine-badged cars, including an exclusive Alpine car that will have a mid-engined layout. The new Alpine range of cars will be to Renault what Abarth is to Fiat.

Alpine was a French racing and sports car manufacturer that generally used rear mounted Renault engines. The last Alpine rolled off the production lines in 1994, ending the Alpine A610’s short production run which began in 1991. Today, Alpine’s Dieppe factory produces RenaultSport models including the Renault Sport Megane 225, the Renault Sport Clio 197 and the Renault Sport Megane dCi.

The exclusive Alpine-badged car (with no base non-Alpine models) will be a small two-seater with a mid-engined layout powered by a compact turbocharged petrol engine. Renault plans on marketing these new range of cars using their Formula 1 image.

Looks nice! Can’t believe they managed to squeeze the trademark round foglamps into it and make it look modern at the same time!
