Renault to start using double clutch transmissions

Megane Renaultsport 225

Renault is the latest car manufacturer to join the dual clutch transmission club, however no launch date, no specs and pretty much nothing else was revealed. All that was revealed to motoring publications by Renault’s head of product planning Patrick Pelata is that “they are on their way and we will not come too late.”

Although Renault’s usage of dual clutch transmissions will mainly be to cut fleet CO2 emissions, we could see some of Renault’s best hot hatches equipped with the ultra fast shifting twin clutch gearboxes, like the Renault Clio Renaultsport 197 and the Renault Megane Renaultsport 225 (shown above).

SOMEBODY should start a twin clutch R&D programme now… so that this time when twin clutches are a standard option in cars, it’s also a standard feature in OUR cars..

More and more cars are using twin-clutch now. But I think is more for use in those high performance, high power car to make sense.

So, Proton might not waste resources to study on this, unless they plan to develope high power Campro :)

If u want to know how a DSG works. See this link: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/dual-clutch-transmission.htm

Anyway this is about DSG not proton, renault stupid design or what…

Beside that DSG doesnt mean for high performance car, VW is implementing all to its 1.4L Golf, jetta. DSG also can cut Fuel Consumption coz of faster shifting of gears and more gear ratio to choose from compare to conventional A/T and even manuals. Like what renault is trying to do also a reason to cut the emission.

    thanks littlefire85.
btw, there’s still possibilities of proton can use this tech since their cooperation with renault still available.. but the dark side is.. mostly from Europe means high maintenance cost! Event it’s good and great tech.
