Vauxhall has updated its UK-market Vauxhall VXR8, a badge-engineered version of the Holden HSV Clubsport. The Chevrolet LS2 engine under the hood has been replaced by the latest LS3, which is larger in displacement at 6,162cc versus the LS2’s 5,967cc.

Other than just raw displacement, the LS3 also has other advantages over the LS2 such as high-flow cylinder heads, and an enhanced valvetrain design.

Despite quite a few modifications, power goes up only by 14 PS, with the V8 now rated at 431 PS at 6,000rpm. Thankfully emissions and fuel consumption are rated the same as the outgoing LS2. Translated to road times, the VXR8’s 0 to 100km/h sprint time drops by 0.1 seconds to 4.9 seconds.

Other changes include a standard gearbox oil cooler for models with an automatic gearbox, and a new colour called Heron White. View another photo after the jump.

Cars like this would sell here if it wasn’t for the road tax and fuel price.

might be RM18K yearly for the roadtax alone..
    sigh…
large engine with high output nothing to wonder.
if 1.6 engine can make output 500hp, nah.. that is a miracle.

Bayar road tax first la. Even the Accord 3.5L version is having difficulties selling here. This is double of it. Gosh!

Anyhow, if I can afford to pay that price for road tax. I may opt for others.

Right, but only when you are heavy footing it.

I one had a short term 5.7L Camaro Z28 and on crusing, the fuel consumption isn’t bad given the very tall overdrive 6th. Then it has a shift lock, that on low throttle will lock out 2nd gear. That thing has enough torque to not need all the gears. If I had not mistakenly remembered, crusing at 120km/h is only running on about 1500rpm and it could do 12-14 Km/L (city it averages 9km/L), which isn’t bad…in fact, more than a lot of our small CC cars (ahem, Waja). But if you floor it, you’d probably get 3km per L.

Of course, its all relative, its still a large, heavy car with wide grippy tires…obviously it wont out-economy a Honda Civic.

the accord 3.5 road tax is 4.5k +-. 10 years 45k. OK laaa.
producing 275hp is very good for family sedan price below 250k.

for 6L engine… the road tax will be above 20k per year.
