Volvo Car Malaysia has launched the facelifted Volvo XC90 here in Malaysia, probably one of the only 7 seaters around that gets the approval of Jeremy Clarkson, who last I read is about to purchase his third unit soon.
The model offered here in Malaysia is the 2.5T model, and retails for RM349,500 OTR without insurance. Under the hood is a transversely-mounted 2.5 litre inline-5 turbocharged engine producing 210 horsepower and 320Nm of torque.
The new Volvo XC90 is available in four colours – Black Sapphire Metallic, Oyster Grey Pearl, Electric Silver Metallic and Shadow Blue Metallic. The three non-black colours are all-new for the XC90.
Volvo Cars Malaysia President Mr Robert Norrman has indicated that the new XC90 will also be available with a turbodiesel engine soon, if not immediately. The Volvo XC90 D5 uses an all-aluminium inline-5 turbodiesel engine producing 400Nm of torque and 185 horsepower, and is equipped with a 6-speed Geartronic automatic gearbox. The Volvo C30 will also hit our shores soon.

Exterior changes:
- Xenon headlamps
- Flush-fitted headlamp cleaning system
- Wing mirrors with integrated turn indicators
- Aluminium roof rails
- Colour coordinated side mouldings
- Colour coordinated door handles
- New front bumper
- New tail lamps with twin positioning bulbs and one brake bulb
- Metal trim above rear number plate
- New front grille
And the interior:
- New premium CD/MP3/WMA-capable sound system with aux input
- DSTC switch located on the indicator stalk
- New instrument dials
- Indicator and wiper stalk metal-look rings
- Metal look stripe on radio fascia
- Metal look inserts on air vents
- Metal look inserts on steering wheel
- New door handles with improved tactile feel
- New inner ceiling

I always see Volvo as the safest car in the world. So this new face lift edition would be the same as the old one, tough! Just that they come in the diesel version. Like wise, diesel here would not last long until the price raises again. But hey!, if u can pay that amount to buy this car, would that little raise of diesel or petrol kill? I don’t think so.
I think most people would buy it for safety but not much though, I’m more into a new S40 looks better.
Safety but not much? Compared to any other European brands, it is a super bargain, and it’s extremely super duper comfortable.
I’d prefer the XC70 thou, or the A6 Allroad Quattro ….

Diesel will be introduced later as an option ler….
hmm… no wonder loh that volvo’s SA keep calling for a TD.. the 3rd pic look nice, is it Shadow Blue Metallic ? how about the pricing Paul? RM300k plus? in the older version price bracket of lesser?

Hehehe the new tail lamps are cute… i liked the old round ones in the pre-facelift model, but this one makes it in line with the rest of the upcoming range :)

As of now, the next generation XC90 has yet to be announced. Apparently Volvo is having troubles developing ‘green’ powertrains (i.e. hybrids) to suit the american market. Americans, aside from their gas-guzzling pickup/truck loving culture, has been demanding more and more fuel efficient cars, especially from premium brands such as Volvo.
Taking into account that this facelift was launched way back in mid 2006 (Volvo Malaysia really took their time in launching the facelift, as always), the XC90 will most probably be getting a second facelift in about a year from now to keep it fresh until the next generation car arrives (if at all).
