First, congratulate Hyundai-Kia Motors for doing a great job…
So, seems that VAG and Hyundai are catching up faster while GM and Ford seems to be dropping. By the way, hope that Hyundai and VAG will do even better this year.

They improve a lot. This can be a role model for our national carmakers.

I am not sure which figure is right cos i read somewhere last year that GM managed to edge Toyota sales slightly by end of 2007.
Anyway i would like to point out that it is not how many cars you sell, rather it is how much margine you make per car. For example, if you notice BMW or MercBenz is not in the list but they make more money per car compared to those in the top 10.

Cheaper car, almost similar copycat design as other Japanese makers? The volumes do not reflect the quality build/technology of the car

Yes, beemer & merc should make more money per car than others, but how much in terms of percentage? BTW the most profitable auto company is Porsche. some people say they are essentially ‘a financial firm that happens to make cars’ due to their large profit from non-auto manufacturing activities (they own 40% of VAG, therefore VAG’s gain is Porsche’s profit too).

Hyundai & Kia are the same company. Just think of GM, they don’t have GM branded cars but instead Chevrolet, Cadillac, Holden, Opel and many more. Speaking of Proton, they turned down the chance be among THE TOP 3 auto makers in the world if they merge with Volkswagen ;))
