Its really difficult to say sporty and the T badge in the same breath. They’d rather spend millions in a F1 promo and a try at the Nurburgring 24H than actually making one. Unless you live in America and they probably can get away with a Scion. They’ll do it for the American buying public. But not for us here.

I’m not sure what other word to use for that look Toyota gave the American Camry and the Corolla Altis. What’s under the hood and the mechanicals are something else of course…

This truly looks better than our current Altis.

What less sporty than corolla altis?

So much sportier. Rear so much better than Civic.

One glance of the car at this angle, it resembles the Ford Mondeo, slopping roof line ,the edgy rear, glass silhoutte and even the rocker panel character….

Our C segment or thier C segment?

The outgoing Avensis is almost Camry sized. I was actually surprised when I road in a Avensis Taxi last time I was in Europe. Its definately larger than the Corolla.

AFAIK, its a direct competitor to the Mondeo, which is equally as large.

Ugly car… It can never up to the Mondeo and C5 standard.

“This new third gen Avensis has less sporty design cues compared to the Corolla Altis….”

Err that should be treated as a typo. The Avensis is indeed more sportier than the Corolla Altis. Just look at the Audi-ish clean lines, BMW-inspired C pillar, protruding wheel arches & sporty huge rims. If this car is badged as Altis here, it will bash the Civic for good and let Honda lick to its own wounds.

Nevertheless, I dont see this car as a C-segment. Its more towards the compact D-segment dominated by the Mondeo and Laguna. Other notable contenders in this segment are the Accord Euro, WV Passat, Mazda6 and Pug 407, Citroen C5.

Sorry Paul, their C segment in UK is different with our C segment car.. Toyota Avensis is acutally from Camry Chassis, their wheelbase and interior looks closely the same with camry..

Their Corolla chasis used in UK is the Toyota Auris & Corolla verso..

Toyota avensis = Camry (not corolla)

Paul Tan says: i suppose you guys are right. the 2nd gen car had a 2700mm wheelbase which is longer than the Corolla’s 2600mm. my mistake!

Paul, I thought the Avensis is Camry-sized? If I’m not wrong, they have the Toyota Auris in Europe which is Corolla-sized

ugly looking car, but its better than ours, but with tight competition from ford mondeo, citroen c5, volks passat, passat cc, skoda superb, honda accord, opel insignia, i can’t find a proper reason to buy this ugly car

Now this is what I am talking about. Nice design with reliability to boot.
Although I am not very keen on the MPV design 3 qtr wind in front.

But overall….. normally Toyota cars lack design but recently they have been also focusing on design a bit more which is a good thing. This will give the conti boys in Europe run for their money.

    Kaisen….. continious improvement…………….
