Saab 9-X Air Concept open top at Paris 2008

Saab will be displaying an open top version of the Saab 9-X BioHybrid Concept unveiled earlier this year called the Saab 9-X Air Concept.
The Paris 2008 concept car will be powered by what is most probably GM’s future “non-Volt” hybrid powertrain combination - a 1.4 liter engine that supports E85 flex-fuel mated to a 6-speed twin clutch transmission and assisted by an electric motor powered by lithium ion batteries.
The existence of both a hatchback and open top version of the Saab 9-X concept cars point to the upcoming Saab 9-1 car emulating the likes of the Audi A3 and the BMW 1-Series in terms of model offering.
Look after the jump for a hi-res gallery of the concept car.

Amazing how a 3 year old design still stands out even now. Incredible. If only they would put those fighter jet HUD gauges in the production model, if they ever build it.

Cool man, you mean this design is actually a couple of years old? It still looks so futuristic! :-O

cbljkkj,
are you sure it is a 3 year old design? i think you’re refering to the aero-x concept instead. the 9-x was probably revealed last year only.
topgunthang,
saab’s problem is not being able to bring concepts to life. not enough of cash from GM is their main problem and not being to manage their pricing effectively leaves them competing with the uber germans on a similar price level. and nobody will pay german money for a swedish product.
nonetheless, their designs have been always evolving and have the main design cues of saabs of old. imho, it is a pretty smart clean cut design. very scandinavian where their designs centre on the need for it rather than the necessity of having adornments. for japanese car designs fans where there is a scoop or spoiler here and there and seemingly useless designs cues that do not aid aerodynamics in any way, this will not be your cup of tea.
