G'day mates! My first forum for years now and, glad to be part of you guys. Am a brand consultant and the real motivation for joining this forum was because I got really cheezed off when I visited a Proton showroom not so long ago to see the new Saga. Not only were the salespeople rather sleazy, I thought I'd recognised the shape of the new Saga somewhere before.

Yup! Its almost a straight copy of the Renault/Dacia Logan! I was living in Paris then when they introduced the Logan to the Romanian market. I commented this out to the Proton reps and their reply was as expected, cheeky..

Thought I could share some more views with you guys someday... Anyways, have a good weekend guys & gals! Cheers!!

If i not mistaken, the BLM SAGA design is from Savvy platform. Which i heard rumors is it from a CLIO renault platform. They maybe edit or modified the car so that Proton will not claim it is 100% from renault.

During the launch, the Proton person in charge also mention it is a direct competition againts Logan & other low cost cars...

But in tem of safety technology, Proton only offer 1 air-bag. If i not mistaken the Logan do offer ABS + Air-bags as standart while proton BLM dont have... Is a sad thing that Proton dont know that safety are important for the person + passenger behind the wheels..

The Dacia Logan comes with dual frontal airbags and ABS as standard.

Hi Decepticon, JamesC and Chyan,

Thanks very much for your kind responses. They're all very insightful and jamesc has also kindly provided us with some photos. Me too, I have spent countless hours comparing net photos on both the models and find them to be interestingly similar on many accounts.

However, my main concern really lies not on the models brought out by Proton but more towards what Proton is really providing us. For years I've noticed (and I'm sure countless other Malaysians have, too) that from the start, we've been getting cars from them that are way below the standards of the overseas market. Friends of mine who've bought Sagas, Iswaras, Satrias from the UK have higher quality than those sold to us. And for much less (money)!! Funny though. Its like we're feeding our family crap and when we invite our friends over, we lavish on goods that our family can only drool for. Are Malaysians too hoi-polloi for the chiefs at Proton?

Is this really what Malaysian attitude is like? I mean, come on. Family first, right?

For instance, Deception, you mentioned that the new Saga only feature 1 airbag, right? Well, imagine what else we've been stripped off from the list of safety features, not to mention other crucial technical features. If I was the Head of Proton, my Malaysians come first. Then, whatever others need overseas, its secondary.

In the coming days, I'll share with all of you my insight on Proton, its Brand and why, if Proton doesn't buck up, they'll be seeing the end of their Living Daylights, just like UMNO is now. And, your prescious thoughts will be priceless...

Thanks again, guyz..

It is as if they put more emphasis on import models rather than local ones. As a matter of fact, they had to do so because other countries have higher safety aspect than here, so all they can do is to safisfy all the regulations by making their models only withhighline

Why they want to give others the safer spec, but not for us?

Is it our country people life worth less compare to them?!? Answer me, if you think your life cost cheaper to them and you no need to drive safer cars?!?   Huh

We should have get the better spec first, learn from JDM cars! They offer the best in their country while strip the options for others...

i have at least 3simple reasons for this..

1 COST
2 COST
3 Cost again...

its not that they didn't think of our lives here in Malaysia, but malaysian would definitely NOT buying proton cars with all the safety features due to its cost...
go and have a look at all the data, which spec of persona sold the most?
and which spec of myvi sold the most?
even the stripped off vios selling like hot cakes..

just my 2 cent
cheers!!

It seems that is our G is the one to blame.. They never enforce the safety standart of the road going cars... Look at Euro & US, their cars must have ABS, Air-bag and now ESP standart!
