Brabus has introduced its ECO PowerXtra D6S performance kit on the new Mercedes-Benz S 350 BlueTEC, making it the world’s first tuned car to meet the new Euro VI exhaust emission standard.

The kit delivers an additional 55 hp of power in the V6 turbodiesel and develops a peak torque of 690 Nm (509 lb-ft), but more significantly, in emission testing required for certification, the vehicle remained below the Euro VI limits by 30%, even though VI isn’t coming into effect until 2014.

Designed as a plug-and-play device and integrated into the CAN data bus of the luxury sedan, the D6S auxiliary control unit can also be installed in the 4MATIC four-wheel-drive version.

The ECO PowerXtra D6S kit comes with a very special feature. The extent of the performance increase is dependent on the selected shift mode of the 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission. In ‘Eco’ mode, the maximum power output of the engine remains unchanged, but peak torque jumps from standard 620 Nm to 690 Nm between 1,600 and 2,400 rpm. Upon switching to ‘Manual’ or ‘Sport’ mode the increase in torque is accompanied by an increase in maximum power output from 258 hp to 313 hp at a low 3,600 rpm.

In this configuration, the tuned S 350 does the 0-100 kph sprint in just 6.5 seconds, half a second faster than the production car. Top speed is limited electronically to 250 kph.

Special versions of the D6S performance kit are also available for all four body styles of the E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and new CLS 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY.

Brabus introduces the Widestar SLS AMG

German tuning house Brabus has introduced a tuning package for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG called the Widestar, and the Brabus Widestar SLS made its official debut at the Essen Motor Show, which began over the weekend.

The Brabus rendition of the Gullwing throws in a number of items, headed by a new titanium exhaust system with a sound-management system that’s driver controllable – via a pneumatic flap, the system has a sport mode that offers more growl than the stock SLS, but if it’s quiet you want, a ‘coming home’ setting gets the dB lower than that of the standard exhaust. It also adds a neat 10 hp to the 6.2 litre V8′s output.

The Widestar SLS is lower than the stock car by 30 mm, and features a new height-adjustable suspension, developed with Bilstein, with optional stiffer front and rear swaybars also available for the car.

Externally, the Widestar aero kit is made up of a host of carbon-fibre bits – among these, a front spoiler, boot lid spoiler, larger front fender air outlets, a rear diffuser and rear wheel arches featuring air inlets/outlets. A choice of matt or gloss finish, or that following the body colour, can be had.

The Widestar SLS also gets the wheel treatment, naturally, in this case a ultra-light Monoblock F Platinum Edition forged wheels, available in 20- and 21-inch sizes, and they come wearing either 275/30 ZR20 and 295/25 ZR21 Yokohama rubbers. Inside the cabin, custom options abound, from premium upholstery in leather and Alcantara to carbon-fibre inlays in any desired colour.

Brabus SLS AMG – can you add to perfection?

German tuners Brabus have worked on a number Mercedes-Benz models, and the new SLS AMG is the latest to join their portfolio.

A new body kit – using F1 quality carbon fibre – has been introduced, made out of a new front spoiler, two Brabus covers for the upper air inlets, new air outlets for the front fenders, Brabus rear spoilers, Brabus rear fascia element and a Brabus sports exhaust system.

At the moment, the company is still working on the tuning of the 6.3 litre V8, but the addition of the lightweight exhaust system shaves 12 kgs of the weight of the car. This also gives it an extra 10 horses from an engine that generates 571hp in stock form. Adding to that is a pneumatically controlled bypass gate, which changes the sound produced- be it rough and throaty with your foot down, or nice and quiet when sneaking home.

Other custom work include a height adjustable Brabus smooth ride suspension, which lowers the car by up to 40 mm. Brabus also say that they will be offering a front lift system which raises the front of the car by 50 mm. This works in tandem with the damper settings, which changes the sportiness of the ride.

Inside, the cockpit will feature a speedometer that goes up to 400km/h, an ergonomically shaped sports steering wheel, stainless-steel scuff plates with illuminated Brabus logo and matte anodized pedals. The insides can be upholstered in range of leather and Alcantara.

The whole package will sit on an ultra-light Brabus Monoblock F PLATINUM EDITION cross-spoke wheels that are 12 percent lighter than stock wheels. It wears a staggered wheel combination of 20-inch wheels in front and 21 inches on the rear axle. They are covered in high performance Pirelli and YOKOHAMA tires.

The changes done to the car doesn’t seem to have damaged the SLS’s standard styling and will still be seen on the road as “that gullwing sportscar from Mercedes”. Or has it?

Make up your mind with the picture gallery after the jump.

Brabus iBusiness package for the Apple and Mercedes fan

If you thought of the most unlikely combination in the world, what would it be? A V12 Biturbo Mercedes S600 and an interior trimmed out like an Apple store?

That’s probably not the first thing that springs to mind, but that’s exactly what Brabus has done for the iBusiness package.

Fans of both brands will be treated to an Apple interior featuring a rear compartment with two Apple iPads, two multimedia screens on the back of the front seats and a 64GB iPod Touch. The two iPads can also control the car’s COMAND system, which handles the radio, navigation system and telephony.

If you don’t like the touch screen iPad’s, there will be ample table space for your keyboard and mouse. The fully adjustable tables are electronically deployed from special BRABUS seatback consoles and will be covered in leather upholstery.

The central hub for the setup is a Mac mini hidden under the rear shelf in an electronically deployed drawer. Internet connectivity for all this equipment is provided via a 3G connection which is UMTS and HSDPA capable.

Brabus didn’t stop with just the interior as the car now features a 6.3 litre V12 twin turbo engine that generates a whopping 750hp and 1,350Nm of torque. This was achieved by adding larger turbochargers, a revised intercooling system and a stainless-steel high-performance quad exhaust system with free-flow metal catalysts. The engine’s maximum torque is so great that it had to be electronically limited to 1,100Nm.

Power is transferred to the rear wheels by a five-speed automatic transmission and a much needed option that Brabus is offering with this car, is a limited slip differential. Brabus claim this to be the fastest luxury sedan in the world as it has a top speed of 340km/h and hits the century mark in just 4.0 seconds.

Aerodynamics has also been improved with large center air inlet, BRABUS sill skirts, rear spoiler lip, new rear fascia with centrally located reflector and BRABUS quad sport exhaust system. Adding to the looks will be aluminum sport fenders, along with LED daytime running lights, lights on the sills and on the underside of the rear which illuminate the ground behind the vehicle.

Brabus have also custom tailored a choice of tires, brakes and suspension. This will be light alloy wheels ranging from 19 to 21 inches. All in all a perfect combination of tech and unadulterated power. Unfortunately Brabus hasn’t announced any pricing figures, but with that much tech and ponies, expect it to cost a bomb!

Brabus GLK V12 – world’s fastest SUV at 322.3 km/h

brabus glk v12

We can always depend on Brabus to come up with speed record breaking machines, and now is the turn of the SUV. The famed Mercedes-Benz tuner has dumped a bi-turbo V12 into the not very pretty GLK to achieve a top speed of 322.3 km/h, a new speed record for street-legal SUVs. 0-100 km/h takes 4.2 seconds and 0-200 km/h takes 12.8 seconds.

Based on Merc’s V12, the Brabus SV12 R Biturbo 750 engine produces 740 bhp at 5,500 rpm and peak torque of 1,350 Nm at 2,100 rpm, but electronically limited to “just 1,100 Nm”. Displacement is increased to 6.3 litres (from 5.5) and the valve heads are precision-machined and fitted with special camshafts. There are also two larger turbos and more efficient intercoolers, while a free-flow catalyst and full stainless-steel exhaust improves breathing. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a reinforced five-speed auto ‘box and LSD with locking rate of 40 per cent.

Brabus’s coilover sport suspension is height-adjustable on both axles and features ten selectable settings each for bound and rebound. Brakes? 12-piston aluminum fixed calipers with vented and 380mm grooved steel discs up front and a six-piston fist grabbing 360mm discs for the rear are tasked with stopping this fast SUV.

Crazy car, crazy price. The Brabus GLK V12 starts at 397,000 euros!
