Peugeot 407 Test Drive Campaign by Nasim

Peugeot 407

Malaysian Peugeot distributors Nasim Sdn Bhd is having a test drive campaign for its new facelifted locally assembled Peugeot 407. Anyone can drop by the Peugeot Blue Box Glenmarie or Peugeot Bangsar on the 17th and 18th of October 2008 between 10am until 7pm to have a try at the 407.

The Peugeot 407 costs RM125,888 for the standard version and RM133,888 for the high-spec version - prices that are actually very very good for a European D-segment sedan fully loaded with high equipment levels such as 7 airbags and a good 10-speaker JBL stereo system. Read my previous story on the locally assembled Peugeot 407 for the full specs, photos and pricing.

Peugeot Prologue Concept at Paris 2008

Peugeot Prologue

Peugeot will be displaying the Peugeot Prologue Concept on its home turf at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. It pretty much looks like a conventional 5-door hatchback although it appears to be higher and larger than the likes of the Peugeot 308.

It seems that Peugeot will be releasing a production MPV called the Peugeot 3008 built on the 308 platform soon and the Prologue previews the 3008’s styling cues. It doesn’t look like it will sit 7 or even 6 so this may be a 5-seater MPV in the style of the Citroen C4 Picasso (as opposed to the C4 Grand Picasso).

Not much details have been revealed but under the hood is a petrol-electric hybrid system that produces a joint peak output of 200 horsepower. Is this the 1.6 liter turbocharged BMW-Prince engine mated to an electric motor? CO2 output is 109g/km on the combined cycle or 0g/km in fully electric mode.

New 175hp Peugeot 308 GT for RM159,999

Peugeot 308 GT

Malaysian Peugeot distributor Nasim Sdn Bhd has launched its second Peugeot model - the 3-door Peugeot 308 GT hatchback, which joins its 407 facelift sedan cousin in an attempt to take the Peugeot brand up to new levels in Malaysia.

Adding to the increasing number of fun and fast cars under RM200,000 that are starting to be available here in our market (Golf GTI, Polo GTI, Bravo GT, Civic Type R), the Peugeot 308 GT features the same 1.6 liter turbocharged direct injection engine that’s found in the second generation MINI Cooper S. That means oodles of torque - 240Nm from 1,600rpm and 175hp at 6,000rpm. This is mated to a 6-speed manual.

It’s got a decent list of premium equipment as well - 18 inch alloy wheels, automatic Xenon headlamps, a full moonroof, a leather interior and a total of 6 airbags in the interior.

The fully imported Peugeot 308 GT costs RM159,999, much cheaper than that other car that you can enjoy the BMW-Peugeot Prince engine in.

Peugeot 308 GT snapped on trailer in Malaysia!

Peugeot 308 GT

These shots show a Peugeot 308 GT (tell tale trapezoidal integrated rear twin exhausts) being transported on a trailer in Malaysia. We’re heard talk in the past about Nasim Peugeot Sdn Bhd going to introduce the Peugeot 308 here soon as a C-segment contender, but will its product line-up include this 308 GT?

If we are indeed getting this car and at a sub-200k price, it will allow many people to enjoy a really fun and fast hot hatch with the same torquey lag-less 1.6 liter Prince engine in the MINI Cooper S that makes 175hp and 240Nm of torque at a very low 1,600rpm.

Look after the jump for 3 more photos of the 308 GT.

PSA and Mitsubishi to work together on electric cars

Mitsubishi i MiEV

We may see Peugeot and Citroen badge engineered versions of the Mitsubishi i MiEV in the European market, much like PSA Peugeot Citroen’s deal with Mitsubishi with the Outlander, resulting in the C-Crosser and the 4007.

PSA Peugeot Citroen and Mitsubishi Motors have started a joint study that will last several months to examine the scope a potential cooperation to produce small electric-powered vehicles designed for city and urban use.

The study will also involve the feasibility of shared production sites for components for electric vehicles. This announcement comes just after the beginning of the construction of a new jointly owned factory in Russia.

New VTi engine for CKD Peugeot 407

Peugeot 407

Malaysian Peugeot franchiseholder Nasim Sdn Bhd has revealed more details on the new locally assembled Peugeot 407 set to make its debut in Malaysia soon.

We saw an initial list of specifications slightly more than a month ago listing goodies like Xenon HID headlamps, and a premium 240 watt JBL 8.1 sound system with boot-mounted subwoofer, electric front seats. These are all unconfirmed except for the HID lamps and 17 inch wheels.

Nasim now reveals that the 407 will get a new engine with Peugeot’s VTi variable valve timing. The CBU model offered here comes with an EW10J4 engine without these features, putting out 137 horsepower at 6,000rpm and 190Nm of torque at 4,100rpm.

The new car will come with the EW10A engine, putting out 140 PS and an impressive 200Nm of torque at 4,000rpm, one of the highest torque figures around for a non-performance 2.0 liter engine. The engine will be mated to a revised gearbox.

The CKD Peugeot 407 will be launched next month and can already be booked now with a RM1,000 booking fee. Nasim Sdn Bhd already has almost 200 bookings for the car to date.
