NAP After-Effects: Honda announces new prices

logo_honda.jpgHonda has announced new prices for four of it’s most popular models, the Honda City, Honda Accord, Honda Civic and Honda Jazz. These prices took effect on 23rd March 2006. The following are the new prices for the four models. All models below are CKD except for the Honda Jazz, where the i-DSI is a Thailand CBU while the VTEC model is a CBU from Japan. Basically CKD models are cheaper now, while the CBU models have gone up abit. But then again, the Honda Jazz is classified as an MPV anyway and even CKD MPVs prices are expected to go up. New prices for the Accord 3.0 V6 CBU, CR-V, Odyssey, Stream iV and Stream I-VS will be announced later.

2006 Honda Civic 1.8 SOHC i-VTEC engine

1800ivtec_small.jpgThis is for those who appreciate the technology that goes into a powertrain. How does the new 1.8 litre SOHC i-VTEC engine in the new 2006 Honda Civic achieve good fuel mileage (Honda claims 1.5 litre fuel economy during cruising) while producing a respectable 140 horsepower and 174 Nm of torque? Let’s have a look at some of the technologies that went into this new engine – the R18A1.

2006 Honda Civic in depth

civiclaunch1.jpg

The 2006 Honda Civic was launched today at the KL Convention Center. This would be the 8th edition of the Honda Civic here in Malaysia since it’s introduction here back in 1977. The Civic started out as a compact car for the masses, economical, clean and affordable. It’s definitely come a long time since then. I was there first person at the launch this morning to bring you the latest details on this beauty.

Mugen Fit Spec D Prototype

mugenfitspecd.jpg

I’m pretty impressed by the elegant not too loud bodykit that Mugen has put on the Honda Fit. It looks really great in it’s orange colour too, but what really makes the Mugen Fit Spec D special compared to the other kitted up Honda Fits (Honda Jazz in our markets) out there?

Honda to develop Honda Fit Hybrid?

honda_fit_blue_red.jpg

Rumours are that Honda is developing a hybrid version of it’s Honda Fit (Honda Jazz on our shores) for worldwide release as early as Q2 2008. It is intended to be the first budget hybrid, priced at less than USD$ 12,000. The cheapest hybrid around so far costs US$ 16,840. This rumour was reported by Nihon Keizai, one of the big financial dailies in Japan.

Honda spokespeople neither confirmed nor denied this rumour, but remarked that Honda had the technological ability to mount it’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid system onto most of it’s vehicles, including the Honda Fit. The report by Nihon Keizai says Honda is developing a new 1.0 litre engine to twin with an electric motor for the Honda Fit’s Integrated Motor Assist system.

06hondacivicsmall.jpgIt’s coming soon to the Malaysian market! Honda has set up a teaser site for the 2006 Honda Civic over here. There are some teaser images there, but I suppose all of you know how the new Honda Civic looks like already. The launch date is 9th March 2006.

My grubby mits are just shivering in anticipation for a test drive. Teaser photos are after the jump, or you could just check out their teaser site.

3rd 2006 Honda Civic in Malaysia Spyshot

Civic1.jpg

A reader sent this in to me, another frontal spyshot of the 2006 Honda Civic taken in Malacca over the weekend. Did not manage to get any shots of the interior, but it’s safe to say that we are getting the high-tech flashy 2-tiered dashboard with the digital speedometer on the top tier and nice blue RPM meter on the bottom tier because the photographer managed to see it in action inside the car.

I was pretty worried that Honda would deem us not good enough for a nice interior. Kind of how Perodua downgraded the Toyota Passo’s interior with the Perodua Myvi.

More spyshots of the 2006 Honda Civic: Front spyshot, rear spyshot.

More on the 2006 Honda Civic.

Honda goes Harajuku with Gwen Stefani

This is very interesting. Gwen Stefani has done wonders with her Harajuku style L.A.M.B. fashion label which interestingly combines elements of Goth, lace and Japanese-ness. It just has a secret ingredient which car manufacturers like Mitsubishi call “J Cool”, short for Japanese Cool.

To target young buyers, Honda’s product planners are studying what makes Gwen’s work tick – how she successfully injected Japanese culture into her products and made them so desirable to young American buyers who seem to embrace everything Japanese with open arms.

We’ll probably see “Haraju-cars” on the road soon by Honda.
