The long rumoured American F1 track is now confirmed. The venue has finally been set for the US Formula 1 Grand Prix and it will be set in Austin, Texas. The FIA and Full Throttle Productions, promoter of the F1 US grand Prix, have confirmed that Austin will be home to the US Grand Prix from 2012 to 2021.
According to Bernie Ecclestone, a race track will be purposely built from the ground up to host the event. This is the first time in a long time that an F1 facility was specifically built for these purposes. The last US Grand Prix was held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which was won by McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton.
Formula 1 in the US has seen its share of road circuits with the first being in Watkin Glen, NY (1961-1980). Long Beach, Las Vegas, Detroit and Phoenix have all had the honour of hosting the Championship with temporary street circuits.
It will be interesting to see how the track develops and how the new circuit will try and outshine other circuits around the world.
