Lamborghini opens 3S centre in Glenmarie

Italian supercar maker Lamborghini opened a new showroom in the Klang Valley this evening. Located in Glenmarie, the RM4 million facility operated by JH Italia Sdn Bhd is a 3S centre to serve the brand’s growing customer base in Malaysia. Last year, Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur shifted 21 units, this year they aim to sell 60 raging bulls.

The showroom with the black facade boasts a “total Lamborghini brand experience” and is fitted with imported Italian fittings as well as a specially designed bar area for customers to “enjoy a taste of Italy”. Italian coffee, we presume. There’s a merchandise corner, too.

“In Malaysia, people who buy Lamborghini cars are driven by the passion to own something that is extreme, uncompromising and unmistakably Italian. And you can see there is a shift in the buying attitude of affluent Malaysians for design, quality, pleasure and pride,” said Isham Ariff, Chairman of Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur.

“Kuala Lumpur itself has shown some very encouraging growth for the marque and with improving economic conditions in Malaysia and around the Asia Pacific region, I am confident that we will see an increasing demand for our range of Lamborghini supersports cars,” Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini said in a statement.

“The level of service and quality we have invested into our showroom and service center reflects our brand values of being extreme, uncompromising and unmistakably Italian. Malaysia now joins our key markets like Singapore and China in terms of our growing brand presence and strategy for the Asia Pacific market,” the sharp suited Winkelmann added.

Lamborghini has been pretty active lately. The Gallardo Malaysia Limited Edition (MLE) was launched here earlier this month (eight bookings collected already), and Sepang will host the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia Series this weekend. In that series, which is run for the first time in Asia, JH Italia will have its own car, piloted by Rizal Ashram Ramli a.k.a. Jejai.

Team Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur JH Italia unveiled – Rizal Ashram Ramli a.k.a. Jejai is the Super Trofeo driver

Last week, we told you about the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia Series that will kick off in Sepang on May 25-27. Today, Eminent Century Sdn Bhd, official Lamborghini importer, and its sole dealer JH Italia Sdn Bhd, introduced Team Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur JH Italia, which will compete in “the fastest one-make series in the world”.

The team’s race car was unveiled by Datuk Razali Haji Ibrahim, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports. The Super Trofeo car is a lightweight version of the road-going Gallardo LP 560-4 with 10 extra horses (570 hp), a re-engineered chassis and a stripped out cabin. Racing must-haves such as a roll cage and fire extinguisher are thrown in.

The man doing driving duties is Rizal Ashram Ramli, who has motorsports experience. Rizal, also known as Jejai, is the son of former Perak Menteri Besar Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib. Readers of our sister website OHBULAN! and those who follow the local entertainment scene will also know him as the husband of popular actress Fasha Sandha, who was also at the event.

Following three successful seasons in Europe since 2009, where the bulls go to Monza, Spa, Silverstone, Nürburgring, Paul Ricard and Navarra, the Super Trofeo Championship will for the first time also run on six of the best circuits across Asia, including Sepang, Fuji, Ordos, Zhuhai, Penbay and Shanghai for the Grand Finale in November.

The series will see drivers compete in two separate 50-minute races at each venue, following a 35-minute qualifying session that will determine the driver’s position in the rolling start. Each team can have up to two drivers. There’s a compulsory driver change from the 20th to 30th minute window, so there’s some strategy involved, too.

Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Series starts in Sepang

The bulls are set to take over Sepang! Lamborghini is all set for the debut race of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia Series at the Sepang International Circuit on May 25-27, after a promising official pre-test session at the F1 track last week.

The Super Trofeo car is a lightweight version of the road-going Gallardo LP 560-4. With 570 hp, a re-engineered chassis and reduced weight, Lambo calls this “the world’s fastest one-make race series”.

The 2012 season will see teams from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and mainland China push the Super Trofeo to its limits. The series will be held in partnership with Blancpain, Swiss watchmaker and the European series’ title sponsor.

Lamborghini Gallardo Malaysia Limited Edition – 20 units

Yes, a special edition of our own. Eminent Century Sdn Bhd, the official Malaysian importer of Lamborghini cars, and JH Italia Sdn Bhd, the sole dealer, unveiled the Lamborghini Gallardo Malaysia Limited Edition (MLE) this morning in KL.

The Gallardo MLE is the fruit of a year-long collaboration between Lamborghini KL and Automobili Lamborghini SpA, and only 20 units will be made available for Malaysia.

The MLE is based on the rear-wheel drive Gallardo LP550-2, but sports Superleggera 570-4 enhancements. So in other words, buyers will get the desirable “hardcore” looks of the lightweight special, without the accompanying stripped out cabin. The LP550-2′s V10 engine has 550 hp and 540 Nm, good for 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h.

“A Gallardo that has the exciting exterior attributes of the Superleggera but with the interior comforts of the standard Gallardo,” explains Chut Nyak Isham, chairman of Lamborghini KL.

Unique to the Gallardo MLE is the incorporation of the Superleggera body kit, comprising an aggressive front bumper, carbon side skirts, titanium exhaust tips (four of them) and a carbon fibre rear diffuser.

The interior is a combination of smooth leather and alcantara. Three colours are available – Blanco Monocerus (solid white), Verde Ithaca (pearl green) and Arancio Borealis (pearl orange).

I was searching long and hard for an interior plaque before a Lambo staff pointed me to it. No, it’s nowhere near the centre stack but where the window sill meets the B-pillar.

No 1 to 20 numbering here – all 20 cars will get the same “Limited Edition 20″ plaque. This is to avoid unpopular numbers and “fighting” for popular numbers. Makes sense.

The Lamborghini Gallardo Malaysia Limited Edition is priced at RM868,000 before duties, road tax and insurance. The on-the-road price however, is RM1,680,000. All cars come with a three-year factory warranty, unlike grey imports.

Lambo Urus concept SUV makes world debut in Beijing

Here’s the Beijing show stealer, and with good reason. The Lamborghini Urus, a four-seater super SUV, was presented to the world as a concept today amidst much fanfare.

For a start, Lambo aims to make it the most powerful production SUV you can buy. Their target? 600 hp, although they are as yet unclear on what kind of engine they will use to reach that big number.

Before you say V10 or V12, consider this: they also want to make it the least polluting in terms of carbon dioxide emissions, without using a diesel engine. However they plan to employ advanced carbon fibre technologies to keep it as lightweight as possible. To that end, much of the Urus is made of carbon fibre, including the seats, winglets and rear diffuser.

It also has permanent all-wheel-drive and adaptive aerodynamics. The latter involves adjustable front and rear spoilers and rear deflector, to alter the amount of downforce according to driving conditions.

The first thing that strikes you upon seeing it in the flesh (apart from its menacing Aventador-derived angular design language) is its huge wheels, shod in low-profile Pirelli Scorpion Zero tyres. 305/35 ZR24, to be exact. The wheels are made of matte-finish aluminium which we think suit the car nicely. In other measurements, the Urus is nearly 5 metres long and 2 metres wide, and at 1.66 metres tall it is about the same height as a Range Rover Evoque.

Other notable features include rear-facing cameras mounted where you’d expect to find wing mirrors, and quad hexagonal exhausts. It certainly hints at things to come from the Italian supercar manufacturer, who want to bring out a proper production SUV by 2015.

A far cry indeed from the LM002 of the 1980s!

Lamborghini Aventador J – there can be only one

Well, here’s a very unique Lamborghini, truly a one-of-a-kind example. It’s called the Aventador J, and the folk at Sant’ Agata Bolognese are calling it the most uncompromising open super sports car in the company’s entire history.

The two-seater, technically based on the Aventador LP 700-4, dispenses entirely with the roof as well as the front windshield, not to mention air-conditioning and the navigation system, but the 700 hp machine is fully-functional for road use.

Created by Centro Stile Lamborghini, the car was conceived as a “barchetta,” so in place of the classic front windshield there are two small wind deflectors, which effectively makes it the lowest car ever made by the company. It also requires that the occupants must have the right equipment for driving the car at speed, if one values one’s face, that is.

The J suffix for this one is derived from the sporting rules of the FIA world motorsport organisation – its “Appendix J” defines the technical specification of race cars in the various classes, though the chosen alphabet is also an indirect homage to the one-off Jota of old.

The monocoque has a largely new design, including the incorporation of two safety bars behind the seats. While the doors on the J also open upward, they are considerably thinner than on the Aventador and are fitted with a tiny, fixed side window.

The five-spoke wheels have also been developed specifically for this car, with 20-inch units in front and 21-inch ones at the rear – elements include a central lock system and an additional carbon fiber insert that functions like a small fan for optimum brake ventilation.

The car also features special front and rear bumpers; both have been supplemented with carbon fibre fins that act as flow deviators and help increase downforce. The front of the J is somewhat narrower than that of the Aventador, and the front end is dominated by a highly distinctive carbon fibre air scoop, with central fixing braces and upward tilting winglets on the outer edges.

Meanwhile, the interior is minimalist – there’s a small control panel housing the starter button and the switches for lights and transmission, as well as two programmable TFT displays behind the steering wheel.

Features include the use of Forged Composite parts, like on the bucket seats – Forged Composite is an innovative carbon fibre material which was used for the first time by Lambo in the Sesto Elemento monocoque. The seats are clad in a special, new carbon fibre-based textile called CarbonSkin, and represents the first application in a car.

The car, which is finished in a special, highly intensive red with a slight chrome effect, wears the same 6.5 litre 12-cylinder mill as found in the base car. After Geneva, where the car makes its premiere, the Aventador J is set to be the preserve of just one – its future owner. It’ll be the only one ever made, so the one who eventually bags it will always feel special.

Lamborghini rolling out SUV to boost presence in China

Lamborghini is reported to be readying an SUV model to take advantage of the Chinese appetite for ultra luxury cars. The Sant’Agata Bolognese-based company, famous for its low-slung dramatic supercars, will bring an SUV study to the Beijing Auto Show in April, sources revealed. This SUV plan comes nearly 20 years after Lambo discontinued the LM002 military vehicle, pictured above.

Lamborghini is not alone in trying to woo wealthy Chinese with an unconventional model. Maserati has its Kubang, and Bentley, the British brand known for its large limos, is bringing an SUV concept to Geneva. The Bentley SUV could make it to showrooms by 2015 if owner Volkswagen Group approves the project. Meanwhile, the Lambo SUV could make it to production by 2016, the source added.

“Chinese customers love their big cars. All the brands are making cars more specific for the Chinese market,” said Christian Mastro, Lamborghini’s GM for Asia Pacific. “Luxury cars are at the top of the consumption desires of rich Chinese,” said Giuliano Noci, vice-director for the China campus of Milan Polytechnic. Since wealthy Chinese consumers have a limited history with the European brands, “the luxury-car makers can dare something new.”

IHS Automotive says that deliveries of luxury SUVs are forecast to jump 49% in China to 265,200 in 2015, almost three times the 18% growth in global demand for the segment.

Of course, this strategy is nothing new, and the companies listed above must have looked at Porsche with envy. The maker of the iconic 911 made jaws drop when it debuted the Cayenne in 2002. Despite the SUV’s less than pretty looks, Porsche now relies on it for half its deliveries, and the waiting list is about a year in China. A smaller brother called Macan is also on the way.

DRIVEN: Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 in Sepang

You’re looking at a future classic, the latest generation of a legendary lineage that counts the Countach, Diablo and Murcielago as ancestors. The latest V12 powered big Lamborghini with epic noise and scissor doors. Meet the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4.

Sant’Agata’s latest flagship made its debut at this year’s Geneva show, and they have already collected over 1,500 orders, with a waiting list of 18 months!

Those with the ability to write a RM2.9 million cheque (that’s the estimated price of the Aventador in Malaysia) are not accustomed to waiting, but for this hot one, they will have to. We’ve also heard that Lambo won’t be making many of these…

The Aventador brings new meaning to all-new, especially for Lamborghini. For once, there’s a completely new engine behind the seats. It’s a 6.5-litre V12 that’s relatively compact and lightweight at 235 kg.

The bull’s heart pushes out 700 horses at 8,250 rpm, while maximum torque is 690 Nm at 5,500 rpm. Lambo says that the torque curve is “extremely well-rounded” with “bull-like pulling power in every situation”. Acoustics is of course a main selling point, and great sounds are promised.

Its partner in crime is as fresh faced. Meet the new 7-speed ISR transmission, designed for “the world’s most emotional gearshift feel”. Shift times for this single clutch ‘box are quick – 40% faster than the Gallardo’s e.gear and almost 50% less than a dual-clutch unit, says Lambo – thanks to the ‘box’s Independent Shifting Rod. Apparently, ISR has smaller dimensions than a manual gearbox.

The new drivetrain is contained in a new carbonfibre body. It’s a full monocoque made from carbon fibre, meaning that the entire occupant cell, with tub and roof, is one single physical component. The entire CF monocoque weighs only 147.5 kg.

Together with the front and rear aluminium frames, it weighs only 229.5 kg and torsional stiffness is an amazing 35,000 Nm per degree. This contributes to the Aventador’s trim kerb weight of 1,575 kg, which is the weight of a Camry 2.0 with yours truly in it.

An amazing recipe that brings some impressive results. The Aventador does 0-100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds. Push on and you’ll reach 350 km/h. Lambo is proud to point out that while performance and power is up by 8%, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are down by around 20% from the Murciélago.

Power is laid down via permanent all-wheel drive. A self-blocking rear differential together with a front differential electronically controlled by ESP aid handling. A Drive Select Mode System lets the driver choose vehicle characteristics (engine, transmission, differential, steering and dynamic control) from three settings – Strada (road), Sport and Corsa (track). Finally, the Aventador sports pushrod spring and damper suspension inspired by F1 and carbon ceramic brakes in each corner.

The supercar has reached a new level, and with the Aventador, the boys and girls at Sant’Agata have pushed the ball to Ferrari’s court.

Many think that what we do for a living is cool, but it’s not always fun and games. Getting a chance to drive Lambo’s finest is nice, but after waiting the whole day from morning to evening, I felt like I more than earned those few minutes behind the wheel. And then there’s the writing bit!

Yours truly was last in queue of the 50 plus journos from across Asia Pacific that converged in Sepang for the bull fight, and I was praying hard that those dark clouds hanging above would hold their load, for the fear of Lambo cancelling the session before I had my go, for safety reasons.

The prayers worked, the sky held up, and my turn finally came. The Lambo crew looked like they were in a hurry to close shop, so there wasn’t much time to get comfortable – it was in and drive, not the best prep for a multi million ringgit supercar. Did the bare minimum (chair and steering adjustment, air con vents away from my face) before the Italian voice on the walkie asked “All OK, ready to go?”

Can’t say that I was completely at ease. This is a 700 hp V12 Lambo around a track that might be familiar, but no less technical and challenging, and although I love to drive, I’m far from the best driver in town. It helped that I got the only right-hand drive unit of the three Aventadors on duty, though.

I eased into the throttle as we got away slowly from the pitlane. I was alone in the car, with no teacher, and leading the way as pace car was an Italian Lambo test driver in a Gallardo LP 550-2. Yes, Mr. Casanova may be two cylinders and two driven wheels down, but yours truly soon found out that he stood no chance in the Aventador – the instruction to not overtake the pace car is therefore moot.

The sound of the new Lambo with the new engine is different from the Gallardo in front – it’s a deeper snarly growl, not so high pitched. The sound dominates the Aventador experience, and is so addictive that I stretched it to redline in every gear at every opportunity. If the free revving engine could talk, it would have said: “I’m born to do this, I’m loving it, gimme more!”

Intimidating size, stance and firepower aside, surprise surprise, the Aventador isn’t a hard car to drive. Forward vision is good (rear not so, unsurprisingly), it comes with paddle shifts, the steering is light and the car is easy to point around.

And unlike the Prancing Horses, it’s not super loud at idle and low speeds. I had a small issue with the “working environment” though – the Aventador’s two pedals are located too much to the left in our RHD car, which compromised my seating position. The seats hug, but could have done so tighter considering the g’s we pulled.

So the big bull is docile when not provoked, but driving it hard and making the most of its ability, that’s another matter altogether. Like the F1 cars that visit once a year, it’s full throttle out of the pitlane into the snake that is Turn 1 and 2. I’ve already heard how the V12 sounds at full pelt when I played passenger hours ago, but it’s more amazing when it’s caused by your own right foot. Kick in the back!

Powering out from Turn 2 into Sepang’s first sweeper gave me the chance to stretch the Aventador’s legs for the first time, rowing through gears three, four, five and changing at 8,000 rpm with the right paddle. I reached the uphill right Turn 4 in no time (didn’t look at the speed) shifting down to second to clip the apex.

This was my first experience of standing on the Aventador’s ceramic brakes, which wiped out crazy amounts of speed in a short distance. Not open wheel formula car standard, but not very far off. However, although great, I had a feeling that it wasn’t as super as it was earlier in the day. Perhaps it’s fatigue after serving and pleasing hardcore journos and instructors all day since morning.

That brings us to another observation. The three Aventadors in action never took a break the entire day, and there were over 50 media members doing three laps of Sepang each (including one outlap and inlap) plus the earlier 1-on-1 laps with the pro drivers. They say supercars are temperamental creatures, but these raging bulls were so well behaved despite being spanked all day. Truly impressive reliability.

Anyway, Lambo talks about this single-clutch ISG gearbox having an “emotional shift”. They might have not wanted the clinical and seamless feel of say, DSG, but the shift process is quite brutal really, combining well with the V12 to firmly knock you back in the seat.

Not smooth, even in the mildest Strada mode, but the drama is not necessarily a bad thing in a big dramatic Lambo – no one will buy this then complain the lack of slurry overlapping gearshifts. Right? The rev matched downshifts are nice.

The rest of the lap saw me and the 700 horses lean on those fat Pirellis for dear life. It was clear that the rubber was at the end of their lives – another downside of going out last. Because of that, I’m grateful to the ESP for saving my bacon more than once, like when I got the last corner before the back straight wrong.

Speaking of that, I managed to nudge past 230 km/h on the back straight before having to stand on the brakes for the hairpin. The max speed wasn’t as surprising as the manner it got there, of course. It’s a howl to remember.

So, the Lamborghini Aventador is an amazing car. It looks dramatic, goes like stink and can make one feel like a superhero. Also handy for Mr Billionaire will be the surprising ease of use and the effective safety net. So if you have RM3 million to spare… please wait for 18 months!

Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder – Topless RWD Fun

This is the latest bull from Sant’Agata Bolognese, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder. As the name suggests, this latest Gallardo variant comes with a 550 hp V10 engine, and the “-2″ stands for the two driven wheels, the rear ones. So this is a mid-engined RWD beast, the topless sister of the tin top LP550-2 Valentino Balboni.

“With the Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder, we are expanding the Lamborghini lineup with a purist model that adds yet another dimension of driving fun. This will appeal in particular to a very special group of customers that enjoy a spirited driving style and also like to experience the sheer pleasure of open-air driving. This special model with RWD is a logical expansion of our lineup of spyder models with AWD,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Lamborghini.

Lambo says that the LP550-2 Spyder is for those who “enjoys a particularly hands-on and spirited style of driving,” while assuring that the setup tuned to “ensure that the rear end remains reliable and stable at all times.” Playing angel and devil, Lambo further tells us that “controlled oversteer is not a problem, although always and only to the extent prescribed by the driver.”

Compared to the AWD Spyder, this one has a specific damper setting and adapted aerodynamics. The rear axle is fitted with a 45% locking differential. While the standard ESP program puts a priority on stability, Corsa mode allows larger drift angles and delivers a “highly intensive appreciation of the full dynamics of the LP550-2.” What colourful language!

The 1,520 kg LP550-2 does 0-100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds on to a top speed of 319 km/h, and Lambo says there’s no problem doing it (we mean top speed runs) al fresco.

Frankfurt: 562 hp Lamborghini Gallardo STS breaks cover

Lamborghini has unveiled the Gallardo STS which is also known as Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale. The new variant is said to be the most extreme Gallardo as it is based on the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo race car which is part of a one-make series.

Lamborghini also stressed that the STS uses the same race engine, which is a 562 hp V10 with 540 Nm of torque, with no modifications what so ever and it is mated to a robotized e-gear 6-speed transmission. With its 1340 kg weight, the STS offers a power-to-weight ratio of 2.35 kg/hp. 0 – 100 km/h takes 3.4 seconds and top speed is 320 km/h.

It also uses the same rear spoiler that offers high downforce. The other thing which is similar is the removable engine hood with a quick-release system. The all wheel drive configuration has been maintained as well. The suspension system is also directly derived from motor racing which makes the STS the closest thing there is to road race car in the Gallardo line-up.

Other features include ESP, beefier brakes with an option of carbon-ceramic discs and so on. A tubular interior roll cage, 4-point safety belts and fire extinguisher, a satellite navigation with Bluetooth, an anti-theft system and a lifting system that raises the front axle are part of the options list.

Frankfurt: Lamborghini Sesto Elemento gets green light for 20-unit production run

Lamborghini has made an official announcement at the Frankfurt Motor Show in regards to the Sesto Elemento concept which was unveiled at last year’s Paris Motor Show. President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann has confirmed that the concept will go into production. We are also expecting the production version to be identical to the Paris concept.

The production Sesto Elemento will be limited to a 20-unit production run and is planned for a launch in early 2013. This track-only 999 kg model will use a 570hp V10 powerhouse linked to an all wheel drive system. With those figures, the vehicle’s power-to-weight ratio is set at 1.75 kg per hp, allowing the monster to hit 100km/h in just 2.5 seconds from a standstill.

It uses a carbon fiber monocoque made of forged composite and there is also extensive use of carbon fiber throughout the vehicle. Stephan Winkelmann said, “The excellent feedback and the numerous requests we’ve had from our customers have really convinced us to embark on the challenge of producing a vehicle with unique characteristics”.

“We are proud that what a year ago was just a ‘technology demonstrator’ of future super sports cars, even though in working order, will become a small series reality,” he added.

Lamborghini to build a ‘daily driver’ third model

Well, such is the way the world works – one eventually has to pander to the demands which scream “daily driver,” even if you happen to be making supercars. According to a report, Automobili Lamborghini is mulling over the addition of an “everyday” model to its line-up, so says its CEO, Stephan Winkelmann.

“We are going to have a third model. It has to be an everyday car. We want to have a car which is able to be used on a daily basis,” Winkelmann was quoted as saying. Of course, the company hasn’t quite firmed up yet in which segment the car will belong to, but he added that once a decision is made, it’ll take about four years to put the new bull on the road.

The report adds that Winkelmann states that Lambo isn’t planning to work with a partner on the new model, but he did also say that the company will use synergies where possible within the Volkswagen group.

In related news, the new Aventador is certainly turning out to be a brisk seller – not due until the second half of the year is it due, but it’s already sold out for the first one and a half years of its production. And, while sales haven’t quite returned to the heady levels of 2007, the company’s record year in which it sold 2,430 cars, Lambo should be well on the way to around 1,500 cars this year, a couple hundred more than in 2010.

Lamborghini Aventador production limited to 4,000 units

The Geneva superstar that is the Lamborghini Aventador will have a production run of maximum 4,000 units, according to Autocar UK. This figure is quite near to that of its predecessor; Lambo made 4,099 examples of the Murcielago.

The Aventador has a full monocoque made from carbon fibre, and according to factory sources, the CF moulds that are used to construct the monocoque can be used up to 500 times before they have to be replaced. Sant’Agata has set aside eight sets of monocoque moulds for the Aventador project which adds up to 4,000 units.

The carbon monocoque saves weight, helping the new supercar tip the scales at only 1,575 kg. It is powered by a new 6.5-litre V12 has 700 hp and 690 Nm. 0-100 km/h is done in 2.9 seconds while top speed is 350 km/h. Lamborghini Aventador revealed: 700 hp V12, rich with CF

The Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 has been revealed. This Murciélago successor is set to be the new benchmark in the supercar world thanks to a new engine and gearbox combo and innovative carbon fibre monocoque construction. If you’re wondering, Aventador was the name of a bull that entered into battle in October 1993 at the Saragossa Arena, earning the ‘Trofeo de la Peña La Madroñera’ for its outstanding courage.

What’s under the dramatic skin of the Aventador is outstanding as well. There’s a completely new engine that’s ‘extremely powerful and high-revving’ but compact and lightweight at 235 kg. The 6.5-litre V12 pushes out 700 horses at 8,250 rpm, while maximum torque is 690 Nm at 5,500 rpm. Lambo says that the torque curve is ‘extremely well-rounded’ with ‘bull-like pulling power in every situation’. Acoustics is of course a main selling point as well.

Its partner in crime is the new 7-speed ISR transmission, designed for “the world’s most emotional gearshift feel”. Shift times for this single clutch ‘box are quick – 40% faster than the Gallardo’s e.gear and almost 50% less than a dual-clutch unit, says Lambo – thanks to the Independent Shifting Rod. Apparently, ISR has smaller dimensions than a manual gearbox. We’ve covered this new V12 and ISR transmission before – click here to read more.

Power is laid down on the tarmac via permanent all-wheel drive. A self-blocking rear differential together with a front differential electronically controlled by ESP contribute to dynamic handling. The Drive Select Mode System lets the driver choose vehicle characteristics (engine, transmission, differential, steering and dynamic control) from three settings – Strada (road), Sport and Corsa (track). Pushrod spring and damper suspension inspired by F1 and carbon ceramic brakes are in each corner.

The Aventador has a full monocoque made from carbon fibre, meaning that the entire occupant cell, with tub and roof, is one single physical component. This benefits rigidity, handling and safety. The entire CF monocoque weighs only 147.5 kg. Together with the front and rear aluminium frames, it weighs only 229.5 kg and torsional stiffness is an amazing 35,000 Nm per degree.

With all these weight trimming, Lambo’s new hero tips the scales at only 1,575 kg, which is really impressive. So with 700 horses pulling the weight of a Camry 2.0 plus me in it, 0-100 km/h acceleration is done in just 2.9 seconds. Push on and you’ll reach 350 km/h. Lambo points out that while performance and power is up by 8%, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are down by around 20% from the Murciélago.

The 4.78 m long, 2.26 m wide and 1.136 m tall (or rather short) Aventador continues the tradition introduced by the Countach by having upward opening doors. For more flash, opt for the transparent engine bonnet to show off that work of art, which we bet most buyers will.

The cabin is dominated by that high and wide centre tunnel, which has a red switch cover to enclose the start button. Switch aside, it looks very Audi. The instruments are presented on a TFT-LCD screen, while a second screen is dedicated to the standard-fit multimedia and navigation system. The cockpit looks quite technical for a Lamborghini.

Lambo Gallardo Singapore Limited Edition – only 10 units!

Singapore, which has a big appetite for exotic cars, now has its own special edition Lamborghini. Called the ‘Singapore Limited Edition’, only 10 examples of this Gallardo will be made exclusively for our neigbours.

Melvin Goh, MD of Lamborghini Singapore started discussions with Sant’Agata in July 2010 and it took around three months before the car, which also commemorates Lamborghini Singapore’s 10th anniversary this year, was finalised. The dealership pledged to donate S$20,000 from the sale of each limited edition unit to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (SPMF) for less fortunate students.

Available in two colours – white or black – one can tell the Singapore Limited Edition cars by red stripes on their profile. The island state’s most famous symbol, the Merlion, appears on the 5.2-litre V10 powered supercar as part of a special logo. There’s also an interior plaque. This bull has 550 hp and 540 Nm of torque, and is capable of doing the century sprint in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Bicolore: two-tone edition

This is the new Lamborghini Gallardo Bicolore, which will come in two models – an LP 560-4 Bicolore for the European and Asia Pacific markets as well as an LP 550-2 for the American market. Interesting that they’re offering the four wheel drive version to the world while America gets the rear wheel drive edition?

Like its name implies, the special edition Gallardo Bicolore basically offers a two-tone finish with a matching interior – which is a roof finished in Noctis Black combined with a choice of 5 colors, one of them being the orange you see here.

The 5 colors are Giallo Midas, Arancio Borealis, Grigio Telesto, Bianco Monocerus and Blu Caelum. The interior also gets Noctis Black on the e-gear transmission bezel, while the leather stitching matches the exterior colour.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante, what a mouthful! Essentially, this LA show star is a lightweight, higher performance version of the Gallardo Spyder. Based on the LP 560-4 Spyder, Performante is the topless equivalent of the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera.

The “570″ in the name denotes the higher horsepower count, which is 10 stallions more than in the 560. This rise is attributed to a “new dedicated engine management strategy”. Lambo’s 5.2-litre direct injection V10 engine pushes the Performante from zero to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds on to a top speed of 324 km/h. Drive goes to all wheels (30:70 ratio) via a six-speed e-gear transmission with shift paddles.

Carbonfibre parts are responsible for around 40% of the 65 kg saved over the standard Spyder. The large panel covering the soft top and engine, rear spoiler, sills, diffuser, parts of the underbody panel and wing mirror casings are crafted from CF.

Inside, Lambo used CF for the centre tunnel cover, door panels and the gear lever surround, but the biggest savings are from the shells of the sport seats. Alcantara is lighter than leather, and it’s used on the seats. The super light 19-inch wheels are identical to those on the Superleggera. With titanium bearings and bolts, they save 13 kg. The Performante still comes with air con and electric windows, though.

The result? 1,485 kg. Other changes include a reprofiled front bumper that optimises cooling and improves downforce on the front axle. Mods to the underbody, new sill elements and a redesigned diffuser also help to achieve better aerodynamics.

Lamborghini unwraps new 6.5L V12 engine, ISR gearbox

The V12 engine and Lamborghini are inseparable; all poster favourites from the Miura to the Countach and Diablo had one behind the seats. These black and white images are of Lamborghini’s all new V12 engine and automated manual gearbox, essentially the heart of the Murciélago successor that’s due next year. Just like the cars from Sant’Agata, be prepared for some dramatic descriptions.

Codenamed L539, the naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12′s 700 hp is made at 8,250 rpm while 690 Nm max torque is achieved at 5,500 rpm, 500 revs lower than present. It may be high revving with “highly emotional acoustics” but the V12 will also have “a well-rounded torque curve, beefy pulling power and incredibly spontaneous responsiveness”. Compared to the current V12, the L539 has an increased bore (88 mm to 95 mm) but a reduced stroke (89 mm to 76.4 mm). Compression ratio is up to 11.8:1 from 11:1. No direct injection for now.

Developed “from a clean sheet of paper” the 60 degree V12 will be hand built in Sant’Agata Bolognese. To reduce weight (it’s 18 kg lighter at 235 kg), the crankcase and the four-valve cylinder heads are made from aluminum-silicon alloy. The short-stroke layout ensures high-revving performance and low internal friction, with good thermal management (two switchable water circuits for rapid warm-up) and oil circulation (dry-sump lubrication with eight scavenging pumps) to back up.

There also a complex intake system with four individual throttle valves, where air flows through two flaps, several channels and one bypass. The exhaust system is said to deliver a “spine-tingling Lamborghini sound”. It’s a three-into-one system with two separate mufflers – one low-volume, one high-volume – regulated by ECU controlled valves.

The new V12′s perfect mate is the new 7-speed ISR transmission, designed for “the world’s most emotional gearshift feel”. Shift times for this single clutch ‘box are quick – 40% faster than the Gallardo’s e.gear and almost 50% less than dual-clutch unit, says Lambo – thanks to the ISR (Independent Shifting Rod). Instead of taking place in series, as with a conventional gearbox, shifting can occur virtually in parallel. While one shifting rod is moving out of one gear, the second shifting rod can already engage the next. It’s faster because both actions partially overlap and the mechanical distance is shorter as it bypasses neutral.

There are four ISRs in the gearbox, controlled via hydraulic actuators. The double-plate clutch is also hydraulically actuated. Synchronizing rings are made from carbonfibre. The ISR box’ low weight of 70 kg also compares favourably with twin-clutch units. Three modes are available: Strada (with full auto shift shifting, if you want), Sport and the most hardcore Corsa with launch control.

Looks like the Murciélago successor will be very well equipped to be the top bull in the supercar ring! Gallery and a video after the jump.

Paris 2010: Stunning Lamborghini Sesto Elemento unveiled!

The Lamborghini concept that’s been naughtily teased over the past month has been unveiled! It’s called the Sesto Elemento and it looks gorgeously outrageous, as spectacular as the name. Sesto Elemento is Italian for Sixth Element, and the sixth element in the periodic table is carbon. Get it?

Boasting an extremely lightweight construction thanks to advanced carbonfibre technology, the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento has an overall curb weight of just 999 kg including its V10 engine and permanent all-wheel drive. That’s very little weight for 570 hp to pull (sensational power-to-weight ratio of only 1.75 kg per hp) and 0 to 100 km/h acceleration is done in only 2.5 seconds!

“Systematic lightweight engineering is crucial for future super sports cars: for the most dynamic performance, as well as for low emissions. We will apply this technological advantage right across our model range. Every future Lamborghini will be touched by the spirit of the Sesto Elemento,” said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento: official reveal from the Paris Motorshow 2010

Lamborghini has finally revealed its concept sports car, which demonstrates the use of advanced carbon fibre technology. Official specs of the car has revealed that the Sesto Elemento, that we have been teased with for a few weeks now, has an over all curb weight of just 999kg.

The use of the word Sesto Elemento (Sixth Element) represents the carbon elements position on the periodic table. This also showcases Lamborghini’s future of employing carbon-fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP) technology.

Lamborghini also claims to be the only company to have mastered the CFRP process, across a range of technologies from 3D design to simulation, validation, production and testing. Essentially meaning, the body is made by Lamborghini, for Lamborghini.

Complementing, or rather overpowering, this lightweight shell will be the powerful V10 from the Gallardo Superleggera, generating an impressive 570hp and 540Nm of torque. This gives the all-wheel drive super car a power to weight ratio of just 1.75kg per hp.

This lightweight concept accelerates to 100km/h in a measly 2.5 seconds! That’s almost superbike figures. This goes on to reach a top speed of 300km/h. In a normal sports car, you’d be all over the place due to its heavy shell, but thanks to the lightweight construction the car should handle like a dream. It looks like someone’s planning to take Lotus’ crown.

Expect minimalist design inside as instead of the conventional seat frame, the whole internal structure is obtained and defined directly from the Forged Composite tub. Also, as seen in previous teasers, the interior is fully CFRP, while the instrument panels provide information on engine conditions and road speed. On the centre console you will find three buttons, one to start the engine, one to shift to reverse and the last for the lights.

Lamborghini Sixth Element concept leaked ahead of Paris

This is believed to be Lamborghini’s Sixth Element concept, the car that the company has been teasing about for the past few weeks. It does seem genuine as the vehicle here has the things that were shown in the teaser images, such as the red interior and the wheels.

The concept is believed to be made entirely out of carbon fiber, except for the mechanical bits. Weight is figured at about 999 kilograms and power is rumored to come from a V10 engine which can help propel the concept to the 100km/h mark in 2.5 seconds, up to a top speed of 350km/h.

Why the Sixth Element designation? Apparently the name was inspired by the periodic table of chemical elements, were carbon has an atomic number of six. Official information and images should be coming up real soon, stay tuned!

Lamborghini releases 4th Paris Motorshow teaser – your guess is as good as mine!

The Paris Motorshow is only a few days away and Lamborghini has released a fourth teaser of a possible concept. Early speculation pointed towards it being the Murcielago replacement, but it is more likely to be a new concept model. This is starting to feel like a game show where you guess the picture.

We’ll let you decide what it is but it looks as if it is pointing to the back area of the cabin, right behind the front seats. If you look closely, you can notice the Lamborghini logo as well as loads of carbon fibre. UPDATE: Some readers have pointed out it looks like a wheel rim, looks like that as well! Lamborghini and Blancpain team up to produce a special edition Gallardo LP570-4

Paris has got another beauty to showcase in the upcoming motorshow, which is none other than the special edition Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Blancpain Edition. The Italian brand has teamed up with the world-renowned watchmaker for the second time, as they also are in partnership for the Super Trofeo race series.

The first thing you will notice is the “shoutey” exterior made up of a variety of aerodynamic and visual touch-ups. This includes Skorpius wheels with yellow-painted brake calipers, carbon-ceramic composite discs, matte black paintwork and carbon fibre components all around the car.

Most visually prominent is the huge rear spoiler, which has the task of improving downforce, along with an engine cover that optimizes airflow into the appropriate sections. Under the engine cover is the mighty 5.2-litre Lamborghini V10 engine, which generates 570hp, lifted directly off the Superleggera production car.

Unique on this car is the fact that it is the lightest road going model in Lamborghini’s line-up as it only weighs 1340kg. This allows it to accomplish a dash to 100km/h in just 3.4 seconds, going on to reach a top speed of 320km/h.

Inside, prospective buyers will be greeted with an interior completely finished in black Alcantara with yellow accents and carbon fibre. Looking at the car, I can’t help but think that this could be a possible visual successor to the Diablo GT. What do you think? Have your say. Picture gallery is available after the jump.

Lamborghini may not unveil Murcielago replacement in Paris, just a concept

Further speculation and rumour has pointed to the fact that Lamborghini may not be introducing the Murcielago replacement in Paris, but instead just a demonstrator concept vehicle, according to publication autoguide.com. This would actually shed some light on the teaser pictures that the Italian company has been releasing recently. One indicated the possibility of a V10 engine, while another showed a dash made out of just carbon fibre and nothing else. Plus the design of the top dash looked a little too futuristic for a production model.

Other reports seem to point to a different direction as 0-60 magazine reported that during a Lamborghini dealer’s meeting in the US, the agenda for Paris included the unveiling of the V12 Lamborghini LB715-5 and the Lamborghini 83X, which is said to be the Gallardo replacement. Is this one for the rumour mill or to be actually considered as fact? At this point, it is best for you to decide. What ever it is, we can be sure that we’ll be getting something completely new in Paris.

3rd teaser image of Lamborghini’s mystery vehicle

Lamborghini has released a third teaser photo that depicts a mystery model ahead of Paris, this time showing us what looks to be the inside dash of the car. This along with the rest of the car makes use of carbon fibre to keep weight down. It is now unclear what Lamborghini’s model line-up would entail as this almost looks like a barebone super light concept car, a far cry from the top-of-the-range Murcielago replacement.

0-60mag has reported that the Audi-owned company may bring two new models to the motor show. They are made up by the Lamborghini LB715-5 and the 83X. According to the website, the former is the Murcielago replacement featuring a V12. The latter could be a Gallardo replacement.

The mystery model teased here is likely a different model or concept all together. Whatever it is you can expect a final reveal in Paris at the end of the month. Previous teasers are available after the jump.

Lamborghini Reventon 1:10 scale replica remote control car with permanent four wheel drive!

The Lamborghini Reventon is a supercar that is out of reach for most of the population, with a price tag of $1,271,405. It’s only for the very privileged few. For the rest of us, perhaps we can settle for this 1:10 scale replica remote control car of the Reventon.

De Agostini will build the pint-sized car components and in true Reventon style, it will be limited to only 65 units. A detailed model, the car will run on a two-stroke 3cc petrol engine, with a two-speed transmission. Staying true to its brand, it will sport permanent four-wheel drive, while also employing independent suspension, hydraulic shocks and disc brakes. This is said to give it optimum road holding abilities.

The company making the car is selling it as part of a model making subscription with the first issue costing 2.99 Euros and 7.99 for the subsequent issues, so it’s not going to be too expensive if it comes out every week. Lamborghini adding a four-door model to its lineup?

CEO of Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann, is hinting at the possibility of a third model in the supercar maker’s lineup, possibly a four-door car in the mould of the Porsche Panamera and Aston Rapide, but only if it improves sales and gives “a real leap” in deliveries.

“A third model would fit Lamborghini very well. A four-door car would be a very feasible approach,” the 45-year old CEO said at Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata base.

Remember the four-door Estoque concept? It was unveiled at the 2008 Paris Motor Show and featured a 560 hp 5.2-litre direct injection naturally aspirated V10 engine producing 540 Nm of torque. That 5150 mm long “4-door 4-seater super sedan” caused many mouths to gape, but we haven’t heard much news of it making production so far.

The economy is gathering pace with most luxury brands recording good sales, which could be tempting Lambo. Sales in the US may jump 70% for the $200,000 to $400,000 category this year after falling 37% in 2009, according to researcher IHS Automotive. BMW owned Rolls-Royce this week posted record first-half sales of 970 units thanks to demand for its “baby” Ghost.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Balboni by Anderson

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Balboni is a special edition released by the Italian brand to celebrate test driver Valentino Balboni’s retirement after 40 years of service to the company. He has helped with the fine-tuning of cars such as the Miura, Gallardo and Murcielago. In stock form, the Balboni comes with a 542 hp 5.2-litre V10 engine that channels its power through the rear wheels.

German tuning firm Anderson (unrelated to the Man Utd player), has released a new tuning package for the Balboni. Not wanting to change a great car, they have concentrated largely on the looks along with minimal performance revisions. Why would anyone want to alter the looks of a 250-unit limited edition Lambo is anyone’s guess.

The V10 has been tuned up to produce an extra 39 hp, bringing total output to 582 hp along with an unspecified torque increase. Exterior changes include the tint of the tail lamps and the panes and three-tone rims with black, white and gold lacquering. The wheels measures in at 8.5 x 20 inch in front and 11.5 x 20 inches at the rear enveloped in high performance tyres.

The exhaust system can be adjusted with a remote controlled three-step valve control system, so you don’t have to wake the whole street up on the way home from the clubs. The interior is shod in logo emblazoned quilted leather seats with gold stitching along with quilted patterns on the door trims.

It’s official: Volkswagen’s Lamborghini buys 90.1 percent stake in Italdesign Giugiaro

It has finally been officially confirmed that Volkswagen Group and Italdesign Giugiaro S.p.A. (IDG) will be joining hands in a new era of motoring engineering and design.

An official press release has been circulated about the details of the new partnership today. This includes the previously mentioned fact that VW will take a 90.1 percent stake in the company which will include the brand name, rights and patents. Thus the remaining 9.9 percent, a very odd number, will be owned by Giugiaro.

Interestingly, the share is being acquired by Audi’s Italian subsidiary Lamborghini Holding S.p.A. This could purely be a pen on paper business decision or it could be the start to something more wonderful and magical, one that any motoring enthusiast will start dreaming about. The similarities between the two are of course the fact that they are both Italian and have a flair for producing ridiculously beautiful machinery.

IDG an VW have cooperated on many project which include the Golf Mk1, along with concepts such as the Passat, Scirocco and the Audi 80. A comprehensive development framework agreement was concluded in 2008 and VW will continue to work with IDG on projects such as the VW Up! family model.

“With this shareholding in Italdesign, we are participating in one of the most renowned design and development companies with one of the richest traditions in the automobile industry. Italdesign is the flagship for creative Italian automobile design and has been instrumental in shaping the face of the automobile industry worldwide. As the creator of the Golf I, Giorgetto Giugiaro laid a new foundation for Volkswagen design in the 1970s,” said Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of VW.

07/08 Lamborghini Murcielago at risk of fuel leakage

Calling all Lamborghini Murcielago and Murcielago Roadster owners, your car may blow up! Well that may be an exaggeration, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the US has announced recently that models that were made between 2007-2008 will have to be recalled.

Lamborghini is recalling these models due to the welds holding the fuel pump support inside the fuel tank could detach. This could ‘result in a fuel leak’. Which in turn could result in a fire when igniting the engine. But owners can rest easy knowing that dealers will replace the fuel tanks free of charge and the recall exercise expected to begin in June 2010.

There have been no indication whether cars outside the US are affected but it might be worth checking out as most Murcielago’s would have been assembled at the same point. Until June, you may want to keep your bull in the garage.
