Naza 206 Bestari Sportivo and Naza Sutera Sportivo

asadasddsc_0045.JPG

For those who loved the sports concept of the Naza 206 Bestari that was shown back in May 2006, especially the lovely twin halo angel eye headlamps - you’ll be pleased to know you can actually buy a production version of the car now.

Naza launched two cars today at it’s new Naza Corporation Gallery in Kampung Pandan - the Naza Sutera Sportivo and the Naza 206 Bestari Sportivo. The two cars are basically higher trim levels of the base cars, kitted out both internally and externally. The following are the features of the two Naza Sportivo models:

Naza 206 Bestari Sportivo

Exterior:
Bodykit
Angle eye headlamps
LED tail lamps
Side mirrors with indicators
16 inch sports alloy wheels
Aluminium fuel cap cover
Twin exhaust pipes

Interior:
MOMO Pedals
Sports bucket leather seats
Red stitched leather steering
Red and black trim
Packard Bell GPS Navigation

Price: RM76,888.00

Naza Sutera Sportivo

Exterior:
Bodykit
Carbon fiber interior trim
Twin exhaust pipes
15 inch sports alloy wheels

Interior:

Two tone bucket seats
Sony CD MP3 player
MOMO Pedals
MOMO Shift Knob
MOMO Handbrake
MOMO Steering Wheel

Price: RM39,888.00

In my opinion, the 206 Bestari Sportivo looks stunning, and the Sutera Sportivo is so-so, but the interior of the Sutera Sportivo is really weird. Somehow the MOMO accessories don’t fit the interior of the car, and the big beige and gray bucket seats look weird, as if there’s some problems with the colour coordination (too bad I don’t actually have a photo of this, let me see if I can get one from Naza). This is all personal preference anyway. The 206 Bestari Sportivo looks similiar to the original 206 Bestari Sport Concept, but there are some changes, for example on the concept, the exhaust pipes were twin pipes, with one on the left and one on the right of the rear bumper, but on the production Sportivo version the twin tailpipes are grouped together on one side. Sports alloy wheels design is also different. I’m not too sure how good the performance and fuel consumption of the Peugeot TU3 1.4 liter engine will be dragging along big 16 inch wheels.

The Packard Bell GPS Navigation System in the 206 Bestari Sportivo is particularly interesting. It works like how you would expect a GPS system to work - has maps and gives you directions. Maps of KL and other parts of Malaysia are already preloaded into the device.

I didn’t manage to get any good photos at all, as this wasn’t an exclusive press event, so there were tonnes of other people there, it was almost impossible to get clear shots of the car without some random orange-haired aunty in the way. So pardon me for that, and enjoy whatever photos I managed to get after the post jump.

Naza Suria - locally assembled Kia Picanto

newnazasuria1.jpg

Naza has unveiled a new minicar, the Naza Suria, which appears to be a locally assembled rebadged Kia Picanto. At a glance from the image of the Suria appearing in the local dailies, the new Naza Suria gains a slightly sportier facelifted bumper with a different foglamp design as well as a new mesh grille sporting the Naza logo.

The advertisement says the car has a 1.1 liter SOHC engine, which should be the same unit in the CBU Picanto; a 1,086cc unit making 65PS at 5,500rpm and 99Nm of torque at 2,800rpm, this is coupled with a 4 speed auto.

There are rumours of prices floating around, the car is reported to be in the mid RM40,000 to RM50,000 range, but I’ll get official prices before putting it up here. In other news, mStar reports that Naza will be releasing another 3 cars in the year 2007, one of which will be a 1.5 liter saloon model.

UPDATE: Prices are confirmed to be RM43,888 for the standard version, and RM45,888 for one with a sporty bodykit, think Novus.

UPDATE #2:

There is not much difference between the lower spec and the higher spec version of the Naza Suria. The additional RM2,000 that you have to fork out for the high spec version gives you a front lip, side skirtings, a rear spoiler, sportier foglamps in a black insert, as well as rims similiar to the one available on the Naza Sutera. You also get this black piece of plastic at the rear window as you can see in the image above. On the interior, the high spec version gets cloth trim on the doors for both the front and rear doors, while the low spec only has cloth on the front doors, the rear is just pure plastic! The Naza Suria will be launched on the 20th of November 2006.

UPDATE: More photos after the jump.

Naza Bikes launches NTech lubricants; announces new Scoped scooters

cpi_gtr.jpg

Naza Bikes announced two new product ranges - a new brand of scooters called Scoped, which are badge-engineered scooters by Taiwanese company CPI Motor Company as well as a line of motorcycle lubricants.

Although it’s not clear to me at this point which CPI Motor scooter the new Naza Scoped will be based on, above is a photo of the CPI GTR 150. Naza says the Scoped will have a 4-stroke engine, and the GTR 150 the only 4-stroke unit, while the others are all 2-stroke scooters. For all scooters produced by CPI, click here. Naza plans to launch a second model in collaboration with CPI after the affordable RM3,000 Naza Scoped is launched. Local assembly will begin early 2007.

As for the lubricants, the new Naza NTech series comprise of the fully synthetic 4T SAE 5W/40 API SL/CF NTech 8000 at RM25, the semi synthetic 4T SAE 10W/40 API SL NTech 5000 at RM16 and the mineral 4T SAE 15W/40 API SF NTech 2000 for RM10.

Naza requests more land for Indian plant

small_naza_logo.jpgNaza Automotive Manufacturing Sdn Bhd’s Tamil Nadu, India plant to assemble Naza and Kia vehicles was approved by the state government, but now Naza is requesting an additional 50 acres of land which brings the total up to 200 acres of land for the new factory. Earlier, Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu had assisted Naza with talks in gaining the land, and he says the state government will likely approve the additional land. A memorandum of understanding will be signed between the Tamil Nadu state government and Naza soon.

Naza plans to setup CKD plant in India

206_bestari_3.jpg

Naza Automotive Manufacturing Sdn Bhd has plans to set up an assembly plant in southern India, possibly in Chennai. Chennei is home to a number of automotive plants like Hyundai, Ford, Mitsubishi, BMW, Mahindra and Apollo Tyres, and is base for 30% of India’s auto components industry and 20% of the Indian vehicle industry.

Naza plans to go international with it’s Naza Sutera and Naza 206 Bestari models, and India is one of it’s target markets. The Indian passanger car market is big - 1.3 million new car registrations in 2005 alone, and the middle class group of Indians who can afford to buy cars is growing. As import duties for cars in India is high, CKD assembly in India itself would be Naza’s best option to be competitive.

Tomato ANP Kia Sorento

tomato_sorento_1.jpg

Tomato Auto & Product Design, or Tomato ANP provides third party upgrades mostly for Korean vehicles like the Kia Sorento, Kia Sportage, Kia Cerato, Hyundai Coupé, Hyundai SantaFe, Hyundai Elantra, and SsangYong Musso. While boasting “I have a Tomato kit” doesn’t sound as cool as saying “I have a Brabus kit”, some of the designs are not too bad at all. It is popular these days to kit up SUVs for that bling factor like the tricked out Hummers in the states. If you own a Kia Sorento or Naza Sorento, you might want to look into Tomato ANP’s kit for the Sorento. I particularly like the exhaust tips integrated into the rear bumper. Naza 206 Bestari Sport Concept

206_sports_1.jpg
As with the Naza Sutera, Naza also showcased a Naza Sportivo version of the Naza 206 Bestari. The car was painted a very nice black, fitted with huge multi-spoke rims, signal lamps on the wing mirrors, and a full bodykit. The interior had a red and black theme to it, and had similiarly colour coded Recaro buckets seats for the front and colour coded seats at the rear. The center dashboard area looks like it had some carbon fibre trim. The rear lamps design was also different, and the car had twin exhaust tailpipes. My favourite part of the car was the new headlamps, which had a design similiar to BMW’s angel eyes. Check out more photos after the jump.
