Myvi Sales Skyrocket!

The Perodua Myvi is selling like hotcakes! Sales figures are at a mind-blowing average of 10,188 units a month, exceeding the original monthly target of 4800 units.

Myvi sales have hit 40,751 units on July 6th, a number achieved in only about 3 months since April.

This is despite of several problems with the car such as the dent on the bonnet and the problem with the rear drum brake. Despite the problem, Perodua was wise to notify Myvi owners to come in for a check-up right away.

Such is the power of having the platform based on a Toyota/Daihatsu platform. The reliability reputation rubs off a bit onto the Myvi.

You can see it on the comments of my own blog. Even when I posted about the brake defect, hordes of Myvi lovers came and defended Perodua, and praising it for acting so quickly. If a Proton had such problems, I think it would be normal for Proton service center personnel to shrug it off with a “Biasalah… Proton!”

Proton, please learn from your brothers at Perodua. This is what you can achieve if you give the rakyat what it wants. A reliable, economical car with the latest safety features and equipment.

The rakyat does not want state of the art clutchless manual gearboxes. It wants a comfortable car to drive to work daily, and at the same time fit the whole family comfortably for weekend trips. And the car has to be affordable. Buckle up Proton!

Perodua Myvi Photo Album

For those that have not been to showrooms to check out the Perodua Myvi yet, here are some photos which a friend of mine took when she went to the showroom. Her photography’s so so so so much better than mine. There are also shots of full grown adults in the car to get an idea of how spacious it is. Also available are photos of the back seats converted to a larger boot space for transporting… more stuff than usual? LOL!

The red one is the 1.3 and the silver one is the 1.0.

Converting your Perodua Myvi to a turbo?

You’ve got a Perodua Myvi. You got fire-hot looks. Even hotter if you have lips, skirtings and nice sports rims slapped on. Now you got to give the car a motor worthy of it’s fire-hot looks!

The premium model Perodua Myvi comes with a 1.3 DVVT DOHC engine designated the K3-VE. This same engine is used in most 1.3 Daihatsus like the Daihatsu YRV, and of course the Toyota Avanza and the Perodua Kembara DVVT.

Perodua Myvi Photos from the Showroom

Here are somemore Perodua Myvi photos from a Perodua showroom.

This is the front and back of the vehicle. This mode is the Mistik Red model which is a solid colour although it looks as good as metallics. It’s the 1.3SX which is the 1.3 manual model without airbags and ABS.

This is an Ozzy Orange Perodua Myvi. It is the 1.3EZ model. The Ozzy Orange colours on this Perodua Myvi is the same as the Kelisa Special edition running around with the spoiler that looks like the Mivec batman spoiler. This engine bay holds the K3-VE engine, a twin-cam 1.3 litre powerplant with variable valve timing. I’ve never seen such an extractor heat shield before though.

On the left is the interior of the 1.3SX model. On the right is an information plate stuck on the underside of the bonnet which you can read when you open it. It lists the idle speed and miscellaneous other information about the specifications of Myvi’s engine and air conditioning system.

A look at the Perodua Myvi 1.3EZ’s automatic gear shift. It’s in D 2 L formation with a button on the side to activate or deactivate the OverDrive gear (4th gear). It is recommended you deactivate the OverDrive during driving in areas like housing estates where your speed is pretty low to avoid unnecessary downshifts and upshifts which might wear out the gearbox prematurely.

Perodua Myvi Technical Datasheet

The Perodua Myvi was launched last night at 9:30pm. The cars are in the show rooms so you guys can go check it out now. Anyway I have here the technical specifications for the Perodua Myvi.

We can see some new information from this datasheet. It seems the back brake lights for the 1.3 model are the LED type which lights up faster and uses less power as well as generates less heat. This is cool!

Kerb weight for the Myvi ranges for about 900kg to 955kg for the heaviest model. As a comparison, the Kelisa is 760kg and the Kenari is 865kg.

Perodua Myvi Launches Today!

The car you’ve all been waiting for, the Perodua Myvi launches today. Go check out your showrooms and book it now! I am not sure if the car is in showrooms already. Maybe the launch is today and the cars will be in the showrooms tomorrow.

Has anyone from the very first batch booking gotten their car yet? There’s 6000 people on the waiting list now from the last update by Perodua people. Anyone booking after the launch will have a 3 months waiting list.

Perodua Myvi Engine Bay

Two days more to the Perodua Myvi launch! Is everyone excited? Here are some more photos of the Myvi, this time of the engine bay.

Here are photos of the Perodua Myvi 1.3′s engine bay. You can look at the K3-VE engine sitting in there, waiting to be started up and driven.

The air filter box says 1.3 16V Twin Cam.

The air intake sucks air from the left side of the engine bay. Actually the engine bay looks pretty cramped. I wonder if there’s space to put open pod air filters.

From the above photo and this photo, you can see the extractor seems covered with some heatshield material. Probably because it was a hot day in Sepang?

This is a cross section of the K3-VE engine for people to see the pistons inside and etcetra. If you look at the top part, you can see there’s two camshafts because it’s a DOHC engine.

Perodua Myvi Interior

As promised, here are more photos of the Perodua Myvi for your viewing pleasure. These are shots of the interior, which looks alot like the original Toyota Passo/Daihatsu Boon version.

The dashboard looks pretty standard Perodua stuff to me. There’s a glove box unlike some other car manufacturers who decided to omit such a feature from it’s latest car. I can’t wait to see shots of the dashboard at night. Supposed it’ll be something like Toyota’s Optitron displays. Those really look good. The 1.0 model’s dashboard meters are amber and the 1.3 models are white.

Here we can see what appears to be an integrated CD player interface like the Proton Gen2. Some people have fitted aftermarket CD players to the Gen2 using some form of adapter so that the hole can fit a double DIN CD player properly. Hopefully there will be such products for the Myvi too. There are two cupholders next to the gear shift lever.

I don’t really like the colour scheme of the steering wheel, what do you think?

There’s something wrong with the interior colour matching too. Usually people go for dual-tone colours, but apparently there’s three colours in this car. Some kind of cream/beige, dark grey and light grey. Not to forget silver for the CD player area.

The pedals look really cheap. But there’s electronic window control.

This doesn’t give you much details on how much boot capacity the Myvi has but I think there’s a sports bag in there with some other stuff.

Let’s check out the back seats shall we…

There’s not alot of space there at the back but this is expected of a car this size. There’s this feature with the Perodua Myvi’s car seats where it can be extended to make some sort of area where you can keep things.
