CCB discontinues Peugeot partnership in Malaysia

peugeot logoCycle and Carriage Bintang Berhad (CCB) will not be renewing its contract with Automobiles Peugeot upon its expiration at the end of this year, ending their 5-year partnership that has been making losses in the past 2 years.

CCB wants to focus on its core marques – while we do not know what they consider to be core, Mercedes Benz is definitely one and has been doing very well. The other marque that CCB has in Malaysia is Mazda.

Who will pick up the Peugeot franchise? Current speculation favourite is the Naza group, who already has a relationship with Automobiles Peugeot with the Naza 206 Bestari project – essentially a locally assembled Peugeot 206.

Peugeot 308 RC Z Concept Car

Not intending to let German rival Audi have all the fun with the Audi TT, this is Peugeot’s latest body variant of the Peugeot 308 called the 308 RC Z Concept Car, which like it’s namesake, is still a concept at the moment.

On the exterior, it is 4276mm long – which is about the same as the hatchback, 1840mm wide – 25mm more than the hatchback, and 1320mm tall. The exterior design is typical trademark feline as expected from Peugeot. On the inside, the fascia panel has been taken directly from the Peugeot 308 hatchback and is trimmed in leather, with stylish usage of chrome, aluminium and black lacquer detailing helping create a sporty, upmarket impression. In the middle of the fascia panel is a Bell&Ross® clock. Such great care has been taken to ensure an upmarket feel – even the bucket seats have polished aluminium eyelet detailing.

Powering the Peugoet 308 RC Z is a 1.6 liter turbocharged inline-4 petrol engine similiar to the one found under the hood of the Peugeot 207 GTi and the MINI Cooper S, but in this stage of tune it puts out 218 horsepower, and torque output has been upped to 280Nm with a 300Nm temporarily overboost function. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. A very decent powertrain for a car that weighs 1,200kg (kerb weight with full tank). For stopping power, there are 4-piston 360mm ventilated discs at the front, hiding behind 19″ split rim alloy wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 245/40 R19 tyres.

This relatively low weight is achieved with aluminium components used throughout the car including the front suspension. The rear suspension is a torsion beam setup with an integral anti-roll bar. This has been developed from the hathback but has been modified to take account of the wider vehicle track (59mm wider) and tyres.

PSA Peugeot Citroen signs JV MoU with Hafei

Hafei Minz

PSA Peugeot Citroen has signed a MoU for a 50:50 joint venture with Chinese automotive manufacturer Hafei to manufacturer small people movers for the Chinese market at Hafei’s Shenzhen plant.

I wonder if these people movers will be PSA-based or Hafei-based. Hafei currently has a small 1.1 liter MPV that can seat up to 7 people called the Hafei Minz, currently on sale in Singapore. It looks similiar in dimensions to the ChangAn MPV spotted undergoing road tests in Malaysia recently.

Coincedentally, both PSA and Hafei are connected to the Naza group in Malaysia.

More PSA-Mitsubishi 4WD tie-ups

Citroen C-Crosser

PSA Peugeot Citroen is expected to further expand it’s cooperation with Mitsubishi Motors Cooperation after it’s badge/styling engineering efforts with the Mitsubishi Outlander as the Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser has shown promise of becoming a hit – the entire 2007 UK stock of the C-Crosser has been snapped up by 200+ British dealers!

We are quite open to doing another SUV in the future. We will see what the reaction and feedback is on the C-Crosser first – it’s obviously too early do draw conclusions now – and see which direction the SUV market is going,” says Xaview Duchemin, Citroen UK managing director.

A lifestyle pick-up French version of the Mitsubishi Triton has been hinted.

PSA Peugoet Citroen might revive Panhard

PanhardPSA Peugeot Citroen said going into the market of premium vehicles with a new marque might be one of the options it is considering, a move much like Nissan and Toyota with their Infiniti and Lexus brands respectively. While these two brands have had considerable success (especially Lexus), a similira move by Mazda with the Amati badge was a failure even before it was launched.

French magazine Challenges reported that PSA Peugoet Citroen might revive the old Panhard brand for it’s luxury marque, a report that PSA Peugeot Citroen declined to comment on. Panhard was a French car manufacturer that was established in 1890, but it’s modern day existence is limited to light tactical and military vehicles.

Peugeot 207 Van

PEUGEOT 207 VAN

This confirms my suspicions that the Peugeot 206 and Peugeot 207 must be the only car in the world with so many body shell configurations. This is the Peugeot 207 Van, which replaces the Peugeot 206 Van, naturally. It has three engine options, two HDi diesels, 1.4 litre 70 bhp and 1.6 litre 90 bhp and a 1.4 litre 75 bhp petrol engine. As a van, it provides a maximum load area of 1.1 m3 and a payload of 450 kg. This must be the most good looking van in the world.

Peugeot 308 Spyshots

Peugeot 308 SpyshotA reader of South African website Wheels24 sent in these spyshots of the upcoming Peugeot 308 C-segment hatchback to the website. The photos were taken during a commercial shooting so the car is not camouflaged in anyway other than whatever cloths they threw on when they noticed the reader snapping photos. What does this mean for us?

Well, for one we might see the Peugeot 308 on roads soon if Cycle and Carriage decides to sell it here after it’s launch, and two – Naza might get to sell a locally assembled version of the previous Peugeot 307 model. Click the image for a larger look at the car.

Peugeot 207SW Stationwagon Spyshots

207swspyshot.jpg

These photos of a Peugeot holding car park were snapped showing the stationwagon variant of the 207 clearly. The Peugeot 207SW as expected is basically a Peugeot 207SW Outdoor Concept without all the soft-roading design elements and the funky concept-style lights.
