Peugeot 206 Escapade

Alot of manufacturers have been building soft-roader versions of their normal road going cars, seeing that there is a market for rugged looking vehicles that will never ever be taken off the tarmac in their lifetime. This works out to be alot cheaper than developing a small off-road vehicle from scratch. Hyundai has done it with the Getz Cross, and you also have cars like the Fiat Panda 4X4 running around.

The Peugeot 206 has many variants, a 5-door, 3-door, station wagon, coupe cabriolet and even a sedan! Now you can add a soft-roader to the mix - the Peugeot 206 Escapade, which as far as I know is being sold in Brazil. It’s basically the 206 SW station wagon with the bodykit tailored to give it a rugged offroader look. You also have a higher suspension by 25mm to be exact, but those wheel arches are filled up with 14 inch wheels wrapped with 175/70/R14 tyres. The Peugeot 206 Escapade is powered by Peugeot’s 1.6 liter 16V engine making 113hp, and is Flexi-Fuel ready, this means the car can run both on gasoline or alcohol.

Peugeot 4007 announced by Peugeot

Spyshots of Peugeot’s new SUV developed together with Mitsubishi with the Mitsubishi Outlander platform have been floating around since early this year, and today PSA Peugeot Citroen has announced the new Peugeot 4007 SUV together with its Citroen C-Crosser twin brother.

Though it is on Mitsubishi Outlander underpinings, the new SUV looks nothing like it’s roots - it was styled at Peugeot’s design center in France, and keeps the same feline design language as the other cars in it’s family. While the flagship Outlander is powered by a 2.4 liter Mitsubishi MIVEC engine, Peugeot’s offering is spearheaded by a 2.2 liter turbodiesel with a Diesel Particulate Filter System.

The common rail direct injection turbodiesel makes 156 bhp and 380Nm of torque, and is biodiesel ready. Biodiesel fuel up to a 30% mixture can be used without any modification to the engine. Standard transmission is a 6-speed stick shift. One additional photo after the jump. The new 2007 Peugeot 4007 will go on sale in the second half of 2007.

2006 Paris Motor Show Gallery: Peugeot 207 RCup

The Peugeot 207 RCup Concept was first shown at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show in March, but Peugeot has it on display again at the Paris Motor Show. The Peugeot 207 RCup Concept Car was a teaser for Peugeot’s WRC entry - the Peugeot 207 Super 2000.

The Peugeot 207 RCup has wider front and rear tracks, and larger wheel arches, giving it a much stronger look than the original Peugeot 207. Ground clearance is 10cm, and it’s wheel arches are filled up by big 18″ wheels wrapped with 235/40/R18 tyres. Under the hood of the Peugeot 207 RCup is the same engine that will be powering the Super 2000 rally contender, a 2.0 liter normally aspirated engine tuned to produce 280hp at a sky high 8,500rpm!

2006 Paris Motor Show Gallery: Peugeot 908RC

Here are some shots of the Peugeot 908RC at the 2006 Paris Motor Show, again courtesy of Ben Corley. Peugeot calls the Peugeot 908RC a stylish four-door four-seater limousine which combined power, comfort, and green performance. The Peugeot 908RC is powered by a 5.5 liter V12 HDi DPFS turbodiesel engine mounted in the rear behind the passengers.

The 5.5 liter V12 HDi DPFS turbodiesel engine mounted transversely in the rear was designed by Peugeot to take part in the Le Mans Race Series in 2007, with it’s racing 908 car. The engine makes over 700bhp and produces a very nice 1200Nm of torque. Because of the engine’s 100 degrees V angle, it has a pretty low center of gravity. This engine is mated to a 6-speed electronicaly controlled sequential shift gearbox, specially designed to handle the massive 1200Nm being put through it.

Proton and PSA Peugeot Citroen sign letter of intent

After rumours of talks between PSA Peugeot Citroen and Proton surfaced back in May 2006, we can finally see some results with Proton and Peugeot having signed a letter of intent in France to study possible co-operation between the two companies last Friday on the September 15th 2006. The evaluation is expected to reach a result on January 1 2007, which is when the pact will expire, unless extended.

Possible co-operation would focus mainly on the ASEAN region but could include other regions as well, and would involve product development, manufacturing, quality initiatives, vendor development, contract assembly and distribution. For PSA Peugeot Citroen, it could possibly result in the increase of Peugeot and Citroën vehicles sales in Malaysia, local assembly of PSA Peugeot Citroen vehicles in Proton’s assembly lines as well as make Malaysia PSA Peugeot Citroen’s hub for ASEAN operations.

PSA Peugeot Citroen is not foreign to partnerships with other companies. They currently have a joint venture with Toyota for small cars (the Peugeot 107, the Citroen C1 and the Toyota Aygo are the same car), a joint venture with Mitsubishi for SUVs (Peugeot 4007 based on Mitsubishi Outlander), engine partnerships with BMW (2nd generation new MINI’s engine is a project between BMW and PSA Peogeot Citroen), as well as other partnerships with Fiat, and Seat. All these partnerships function without cross-shareholding.

This is not the first time PSA Peugeot Citroen and Proton have dealed together. The old Proton Tiara was based on the Citroen AX. Sad to say, Proton’s first foray into the small car market was pretty much a flop.

A question that comes to mind is - what will happen to the pre-existing relationship between Naza and Peugeot? Previously, Naza Group managing director Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin SM Amin said Naza had plans to turn its new Penang plant into an exclusive production facility dedicated entirely to the Peugeot marque, and was bidding for rights to manufacture other Peugeot cars.

Peugeot 207 EPURE points to possible 207CC

There will be alot of exciting unveilings at the 2006 Paris Motor Show the end of this month, and this is yet another one - the Peugeot 207 EPURE Concept car. From the looks of it, this will likely be the concept that a Peugeot 207CC will be based on. The concept car for the 206CC called the Peugeot 20CC was unveiled at Geneva 1998, and the real production Peugeot 206CC was launched in 2001. Since then, it has been the best selling convertible car from 2002 to 2004 as well as the best selling Coupe Cabriolet in 2005. Over 350,000 Peugeot 206CC cars have been built since it’s launch.

The Peugeot 207 EPURE adorn in a nice pearl white colour is not all looks and an automatic folding roof though - this little baby has a fuel cell motor under it’s hood. The EPURE has an electric motor (40kW normal power, 70kW max power, 180Nm torque) combined with a Peugoet GENEPEC 20 experimental fuel cell (20kw), designed by Peugeot in partnership with the French Atomic Energy Commission. This futuristic powertrain gives the Peugeot a 350km range, a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 15 seconds and a 130km/h top speed.

Naza 206 Bestari In-depth Review

I remember falling in love with the Peugeot 206 a few years ago when I was in college. There was this blue one parked in the college parking lot belonging to some lucky girl with generous parents, and every time I walked up to the college entrance I would take the opportunity to admire it. It’s a sporty little hatchback, and the addition of the air vents on the hoods did wonders to add to it’s sporty look. Although Peugeot has released the 207 recently, the 206 still remains in it’s portfolio, serving a different market segment. Now Malaysians have the opportunity to experience the Peugeot 206 in CKD form, with the launch of Naza’s latest car, the Naza 206 Bestari, previously known by it’s codename the Naza NX-02.

Peugeot 206 India Advertisement

This is a pretty old advertisement dating all the way back to the year 2002, but since the Peugeot 206 is relevant again this year with Naza rebadging the vehicle, here’s a video of the Peugeot 206’s advertisement in India. Maybe some of you have not seen it before. I wish I could turn my old B11 Nissan Sunny 130Y into a Nissan Skyline the same way. Enjoy the video after the jump!

NAP After-Effects: Peugeot CKD plans

small_peugeot.gifCycle & Carriage Bintang Bhd, the sole distributor for the Peugeot marque here in Malaysia has plans to set up CKD assembly for Peugeot CKD units here in Malaysia. This is to milk benefits given to CKD assemblers here in Malaysia by the new National Automotive Policy and build up the Peugoet brand.

CCB currently distributes the Peugeot 206CC, Peugeot 307XS, Peugeot 307SW, Peugeot 407, Peugeot 407 Evente, Peugeot 607 and the Peugeot 807 MPV here in Malaysia. CKD models will likely be the cars with higher sales counts. I do not know which are these though. Probably the cheaper models. CCB Managing director Steven G. Foster says CCB has had 40 years of experience in car assembly in Malaysia, and the car market was mostly price-driven, so local assembly of the Peugeot brand to take advantage of the lower taxes would be beneficial for the marque’s performance in the Malaysian market.
