Unveiled in Las Vegas, the fourth-generation Toyota Prius was also present at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, where we managed some live shots of the car. Aside from its new sharp look, Toyota’s signature hybrid is said to have better fuel economy, enhanced driving dynamics along with a host of new tech and of course, it’s the first to sit on Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform.
Sporting a new look that’s sharper, edgier and somewhat similar to the Mirai, the new Prius now features arrow-like headlamps that comes with LED lighting, now standard fitment for the new hybrid model. The side character lines now starts from the rear doors instead, flowing upwards towards the back to meet with the redesigned tail lamps. Seen here is the Prius finished in a Hypersonic Red paint scheme.
Inside, the Prius now has body-hugging seats, a new wrap-around dash that comes with a gloss black centre console – Toyota has chosen to do away with the slanting design this time round, instead going a more conventional route. That said, the gear lever however defies the standard horizontal position, protruding outwardly in a vertical manner.
Also seen for the first time is a full-white dash, with white inserts for the steering and side vents that come with a blue chrome accents. In addition to that, the seats are wrapped in a milk-coloured leather mixed with black linings and turquoise-coloured stitching.
Toyota says that the Prius features smaller and lighter components installed to its hybrid system – the car features higher-energy density batteries, smaller electric motors and a high thermal-efficient (up by 40%) combustion engine.
Measuring 60 mm longer, 15 mm wider and 20 mm lower than its predecessor, the new Prius is the first vehicle to receive Toyota’s New Global Architecture modular platform. With a lower centre of gravity, a more rigid body, the Prius is said to feature improved responsiveness when taking corners. In addition to that, it will also benefit in terms of improved resource efficiency by up to 20%.
Tech grouped under the Toyota Safety Sense package include pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, full-speed dynamic radar cruise control and automatic high beams, all of which will be featured in the production-going Prius in the US and added onto Toyota’s other vehicles by end 2017. Japan is said to be commencing order-taking for the new Prius from September 26.

Seriously does the shape have to be so frumpy? Its 2015 for goodness’ sake by now you should have figured out how to make it look sleeker.
Sense the air of changing trends. Like when lexus first introduced the weird looking spindle grille but now when all the models have them it doesnt look weird anymore

TNGA.. but you abbreviated it as TGNA..
that acronym belongs to Tok Guru Nik Aziz who has passed on recently.
yes i miss him too, rest in peace Tok Guru.
It nice in almost everything except the very important design, the new leaf is a much better choice.
This new Prius ,when it arrives in Bolehland..it wont be 211,000 ringgit.
Due to our wrecked Ringgit,it may be rm230 to 240K.
Might as well pay a little more, and go for a Benz.
If Perodua rebadge this Prius, the price will be around RM80k+
Sometimes ppl need to chill their creative heads and revert back to simplicity. This is one overcooked meat or a salad that has too many dressings. It ends up “meh”.
The only thing I find attractive on the car is the rims
TYT is trying their best to do Fluidic Sculpture design, tapi mana tau is like a scrap paper
Yikes! What am I looking at???
