Toyota Proace debuts in Geneva with up to nine seats

One of the other debuts (aside from the exotics) at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show is the Toyota Proace Verso, the latest MPV to join the automaker’s line-up. The MPV shares the same platform and technical features as its two other sibings – the Citroen SpaceTourer and Peugeot Traveller.

The Proace comes in three body lengths – Compact (4.6 m long, 2.9 m wheelbase), Medium (4.9 m long, 3.2 m wheelbase) and Long (5.3 m long, 3.2 wheelbase) depending on which of three grades – Shuttle, Family and VIP – is chosen. The MPV’s height and width are set at 2.2 m and 1.9 m, respectively.

While the Shuttle and Family grades can be had in all three body lengths, the VIP grade is only offered for the Medium and Long versions. Those interested in the Shuttle grade can specify their vehicle in eight- or nine-seater configurations.

Meanwhile, the Family grade offers an eight-seater layout, with two captain chairs at the front. Moving on, there are full second and third row seating that are rail-mounted, sliding and removable. Additionally, they can also be folded in a 60:40 split, and come equipped with Isofix child seat mounts. Second row passengers also get airplane-style tables.

As for the VIP grade, the Proace is offered with a choice of six- or seven-seat interior configurations. Like the Family grade, the second and third row seats are rail-mounted, sliding and removable. An addition here is a rail-mounted foldable table that can be deployed for the comfort of rear passengers.

Equipment here is also dependant on the grade chosen. This includes 16- or 17-inch steel with full-wheel covers and 17-inch alloys, coloured bumpers and chrome trim surrounds. Cost options here comprise of foot-operated automatic sliding side doors and, on all grades of Medium and Long vehicles, a panoramic glass roof.

Powering the Proace Verso is a choice of five powertrains featuring 1.6 and 2.0 litre diesel engines, with power outputs ranging from 94 hp to 174 hp. Transmission options here include a five-speed manual, six-speed robotised manual and a six-speed auto.

As for safety, the MPV earns its five-star Euro NCAP rating thanks to the Toyota Safety Sense suite, which includes Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Alert, Driver Attention Alert, Road Sign Assist and Intelligent Speed Adaptation, Adaptive Front Lighting and an Automatic High Beam system.
